In 1985 I started two scratchbuilding projects for my future layout, which is still waiting to be build, but maybe this article could help you build something new or make you start upgrading your layout?

First there was the question: What shall I build? It should be something out of common, something, unavailable in model shops.
And as I had some miniature collection, there was a miniture chewing gum distributor. - So came the idea to put this on top of my future building and make this a
chewing gum factory.

Don't ask me if a prototype of this factory exists or not, I don't know! It's just a fictional industry to put beside the rails.
I gave it the name: "BIG BANG BUBBLE GUM",
also without knowing if this name already exists.

CONSTRUCTION:
The whole kit is plastic! I took two transparent station platform roofs
(Faller/Z-scale) and glued them together so this made part of the roof. Other parts of the roof are done with plastic sheet imitating metal plates.
The walls are made with HO-scale brick sheets and ondulated structure imitating metal. - The front door is from an other Z-scale kit.
There's a 135 film-box which makes a water tank on top of the building.
Ladders and fine accessories are from Faller HO-scale scratchbuilding metal structure kit.

My second project consisted in building a crane.

The idea was taken from an article in the Märklin magazine, where a modeler  explained how to build a crane in Z-scale.
I started to build two of them, but only finished one!

CONSTRUCTION:
You'll need one electric pole in  Z-scale
and one in N-scale to build one of these cranes.
Other details are done with Faller HO-scale scratchbuilding metal structure kit.
