I lie
In my clean white sheets
Strewn about the bed like
Snowdrifts
Cold and lonely
Now that she is gone
The warmth and softness are gone
The mattress springs
Dig their pressure points
Into my back
And I toss and turn
Restless
As I was when she was here
Because
There were two of us
Together
Two
And one
We had the sun
We laid together
Her skin next to mine
Soft fine linen
Dark and comfortable
Pleasure to touch
And hair
Black as night
Long and luxurious
Silk falling across her shoulders
Her green eyes
Piercing
As emeralds sparkling in the night
Brilliant
We kissed
Long and sweet
But she is gone
The room is dark
Though the sun shines
I feel cold
Not complete
No longer whole
I’m tired and sad
I’m not leaving this bed
Not until she comes back
To take me away
