Female Friend? What?! Kilthalia A sinister laugh could be heard in the quiet night. Scary and evil; the people on the streets and in their homes froze in fear, even after it stopped. Elsewhere in St. Canard, the owner of the laugh calms himself down. “That is the funniest thing I have ever heard, Michelle!” “Yeah, I know,” she said shyly. He wrapped his arm around her and gave a squeeze. “Hey, you’re ok.” he complimented. Then he got up and let the nigh breeze ruffle his feathers and flow past his cape. “Negaduck?” He looked down at her. “Why didn’t you kill me?” The masked mallard crossed his arms and turned back to look over the city, toward the moon rising from the horizon. Taking a breath, he began, “There’s just something about you,” He paused. “I can’t explain it and I don’t think I want to try.” “Oh,” she said quietly and looked down at her clasped hands. He looked back down at her and extended his hand. She looked at it, then up into his eyes. Taking a risk, she took it. He helped her up and led her away from the edge of the building. ************************************************************* The next day, at Darkwing Tower, the purple dressed duck read the newspaper. “This is outrageous! LP, take a look at this.” He handed the paper over to his friend. “ ‘Negaduck Finds Female Friend’. Whoa! DW?” “Yeah, I know,” he snatches the paper away and slaps it with the back of his hand. “What is Negaduck doing with a female companion?” “Well maybe he got sick and tired of being a lonely grouch, Dad?” Gosalyn commented. Darkwing dropped the newspaper. “Gosalyn! How’d you get here, I thought you were supposed to be in school, young lady.” he scolded. “Dad, school’s been out for two hours now.” “Oh.” He said stupidly. “My, how time flies,” Our hero said sheepishly. Gosalyn picked up the newspaper and started reading. While looking at it she asks, “So Dad, what are you going to do about this?” “Gosalyn, what can I do about it? Having a girlfriend is legal!” “No! I mean are you going to help her?” “Gosalyn, dearest,” he tried to sound kind in his frustration. “If she’s dating a homicidal maniac, she probably knows that he is a homicidal maniac.” The telephone rings and before it stopped the first ring Darkwing dashed over and snatched the receiver off the hook. “Hello?!” Launchpad and Gosalyn look at each other incredulously. Gosalyn whispers to him as DW talks on the phone, “Expecting a call from Morgana?” “Yep.” “Hi, Morgana! How’s everything?” A pause as he gets the response. “What?! There?! Now?! I’ll be right there, don’t you worry your pretty little head, I’ll vanquish that vile v….huh? Oh, sure he’ll behave,” he said skeptically. “I’m coming over to straighten this all out. Ok? Love you, kiss, kiss.” He hangs up then dashes to The Ratcatcher. “Don’t wait up, gang!” He started the engine and took off down the bridge suspension cables. “Oooooh! How long does it take to get here!” Negaduck grumbled. His companion laid her hand on his balled up fists, which were tense and shaking. Morgana warned, “Negaduck, have patients.” “Oh! Easy for you to say! You don’t have places to rob, people to maim, and a girl friend to screw!” he thumbed to the gorgeous creature sitting next to him. “Negaduck!” the female ducks chorused together. A blast of purple smoke appeared in the room. “I am the terror that flaps in the night! I am the bittersweet candy that makes you wince! I am Darkwiiiiiing….” “Huh, Dork,” Negaduck’s friend mumbled. “Hey! You ruined my entrance! Why must everyone always step on my lines!” The crime fighter complained then he assessed the situation. All seemed calm and controlled. “You vigilante, what vile vicious deed are you up to now!?” “Nothing….just hanging around.” “What? ‘Just hanging around’?” Darkwing haunched over, disappointed. “Yep, I’m starting over; a new life…..with Michelle, here.” He wrapped his arm around her in emphasis. He even seemed to be enjoying his good twin’s misery over the situation. “Well what changed your mind?” “It’s not every day you meet a gorgeous gal that thinks the same as you!” He shrugged. “Besides, I wouldn’t want to worry her to death if I ever got caught by the police by committing some heinous crime.” he cooed at her. Darkwing was speechless. In fact, his jaw hit the ground when he saw the two love ducks on the couch kiss. Negaduck concerned about an other person?! Unbelievable! I wonder what changed that? He looked toward the evil duck’s girlfriend but he couldn’t figure it out. Why? Why her, of all people in the world? What’s so special about her that would make Negaduck want to reform? “What’s your angle?” Darkwing folded his arms. “Huh?” “Yeah, you heard me, Negaslime, what’s the deal? There’s gotta be a hitch to this. It doesn’t seem right.” “Oh!” Negaduck grumbled. “Just because I was a lire then doesn’t mean I’m like that now!” “Yes it does! Once a villain, always a villain! Ooh, sorry Morgana! I wasn’t referring to you sweetheart, heh, heh.” The witch had scorched his tail feathers and looked at him angrily. “But Negaduck, how can she have changed your mind so rapidly?!” “Well,” He thought a minute. “Just look at her! She’s gorgeous!” “That doesn’t explain anything!” “Sure it does.” Finally, Michelle spoke up. “He feels obligated to me to stop being public enemy number two of St. Canard and just live his life to its fullest with me.” She cuddled the notorious no-good deed doer. “Oh, well if you put it like that,” Darkwing paused in his thought. Morgana interrupted the good twin before he could dig himself deeper into trouble, “Dark, darling, just accept it. They’re in love and they’ll live legally.” “But Morgana,” Darkwing whined. Morgana put her pointer to his bill to stop him from talking. Unexpectedly, the two good doers were pushed together from behind. Morgana and Darkwing were close enough that when they were shoved together they kissed. Negaduck and Michelle stood by and smiled at each other. “Our job here’s done. Let’s get going.” “Ok.” He offered his arm, gentlemanly, and she took it and they left. Looking up at the stars through the scattered clouds, the pair snuggled for warmth. “Well if you’re going to be shivering, we should go inside,” “No,” Michelle said dreamily, still looking up. “No? No one tells me no! You’re going to do what I tell you!” “What?!” she snapped her head down to look at Negaduck. “It’s for your own good! I know better, you don’t!” “Ooooh!! And who died and made you supreme ruler?!!” she growled. All the anger built up and she smacked him across the face. He held his head where the momentum left it then he slowly turned back to her. It looked like she was done for. “Oh, I’m so sorry, honey!” she begged. Michelle was just about to get up and run when he tackled her the two started rolling around on the grass and tickling her. After they both had a good laugh and after they wiped their eyes from tears Negaduck hit her across her face, hard. “NEVER HIT ME EVER AGAIN!!” She held back the tears, of pain in her cheek, and hurt feelings. Negaduck roughly grabbed her and forced her to get up and led her to The Trouble Maker. The two roared away leaving a cloud of pollution behind them. Some time later at a quite empty building a dark spirited duck walked into the room. The only things in there was a tiny lamp table, green shaded lamp, a maroon armchair with a foot stool and a young woman lounging on the chair, reading. “C’mon, lets go over to the hideout.” “No thank you. I don’t want to go right now.” “What do you mean you don’t want to go?! You’re going, and that’s FINAL!” “No, I’m NOT!” “Oh, and why not?” he said, suddenly calmly. “I’m reading.” He looked at her disgusted. “You know, you’re beginning to come off as a very lazy woman. I just thought you’d like to know that.” “Thank you for telling me that. Now I know.” “AND??!” “ ‘And’ what?” “And now what are you going to do?” “I’m going to sit here, quietly, and read my book.” “Oh no you’re not! Come on!” He snatched her arm and yanked her toward the door. Not waiting another second he proceeded to push her to the door, opened it while holding her at bay, and threw her out. She landed on the ground and the caped crusader proceeded to lock the door behind him. Standing over her he gave a menacing look and grabbed a pinch of her hair and led her to the black yellow and red motorcycle, resembling the head of a duck. She got in the sidecar and he hopped over to the main part of the vehicle to drive. “You do know how much that hurts, don’t you?” she said rubbing her scalp. He gave her a sinister look. “I know.” And he started the motor and drove an insane speed to their destination. The ride was silent all the way to the abandoned building in the bad part of town. They parked in a hidden alleyway. He had no reason to force his companion to come with him, for the reason that who wants to stay alone where the worst things happen? She was stretching at the moment and he turned to watch her finish; a lust burning in his soul, then with a negligent flip of his cape, turned and walked to the side door and went inside. In the top floor of final destination, all attention turned for the pair walking in. “What’s she doing here?” the duck in a jesters outfit snapped. “I had to get her out, somewhere! She’s being a couch potato!” Negaduck stomped to another room and slammed the door shut. The four guys and Michelle kept silent, listening to what movement the vexed duck with the cape might be doing. “Ooh, a regular spud, eh?” the green duck said with a devilish grin. She gave him a scared look of disgust. “Why are you staying with him?” the scrawny rat asked. She shrugged. “It’s easy when you get used to it.” The guys stair at her and she shrugged again. “So, what do you want to do?” The Fearsome Four glance at each other then glare at her with vicious grins. “Uh, oh.” She tried to turn and run but they grabbed her, held her fast, and tied her standing up. “Lets play Pin the Pigtails on her” Quackerjack suggested and tugged on her arm. “No! Moving target!” Megavolt tugged on the other arm. “No way! That would ruin a perfect test subject for my next experiment! Lemme have her!” the plant duck pulled on her hair. “Well you’re all wrong!” The Liquidator got his two cents in, “Let’s box her up and ship her over to India to become a slave girl to a harem and we get 100% of the profit, no money down!” “Negaduck! Can I get a little help here!?” Michelle called, desperately. The four paused, listening to make sure that he wasn’t coming. They heard nothing so they continued to argue and tug at her. “AND JUST WHAT DO YOU KNOBS THINK YOU’RE DOING??!!!” Negaduck yelled. At this, the Fearsome Four cringed from the ear piercing sound. “But, boss, we just wanted to have a little fun with her!” Quackerjack whined. “It might be fun it she weren’t MY girlfriend!” the devious duck explained. He went over to his companion and untied her. “You knobs just don’t know how to treat a lady!” As he walked her to his office she whispered to Negaduck, “Neither do you.” He nudged her in the ribs with his elbow. ************************************************************* “Aw, but dear!” he pleaded to the door. “No! Go away!! I never want to see you ever again!” came a sobbing female voice through that same door. “Michelle, honey, I’m sorry!” “Sorry my tail feathers! You’ll just do it again! I know it!” “What if I promised that I would never again loose my temper with you ever again?” “Y, you can’t! It’s not possible!” Michelle sobbed. “Sure it is,” he cooed, hoping that she would open the door. She didn’t. “Look, we’ll get a house, live in a nice neighborhood, have kids and everything will be fine with us.” he assured her. No answer. That could mean only one thing! That she had gotten up to open the door! He waited, and waited, and waited… Maybe not. He knocked and said, “Hey, c’mon, open up. Give me your heart and soul, pour out your feelings, let me love you.” No answer. “Alright! I’ve been nice about this and I’m NOT nice about ANYTHING!!” With a little Quack Fu and the door was down with the short duck standing on top of it. “Gone; she’s not here! But I was talking with her not two seconds ago!” He looked to the window. “Oh no!” It was open and the wind was blowing in. Negaduck peered out to see if he could see her. Nothing. “Quick chick.” Darkwing couldn’t help it; he just had to meet with Negaduck’s girlfriend to asses why he liked her. “Well speak of the devil,” Just then she walked past. He caught up with her and acted in a non-threatening manner. “Excuse me, Miss,” he awaited her acknowledgement. She looked at him and just barley sneered at him. Apparently, she was going to put up with him? Darkwing decided to ask her. “I just can’t help wondering why you like him?” “Well,” she said in a sad tone. “Not any more.” She began to tear up. “Oh,” To console her Darkwing patted her shoulder. “Get away from me!!” she smacked his hand away, violently. “I, I’m sorry, but,” “No! Go away!!” “But I just want to help!” Then she got mad, really mad. The auburn haired woman grabbed our hero by the collar and swung him to a brick wall, wrapped one hand around his neck and began squeezing. Darkwing grabbed at her hand but couldn’t pry it loose. She held him at her arms length and Darkwing was unable to kick her or anything! Apparently, she was resistant to pain because now Darkwing resulted in scratching at her arm and digging his nails into her flesh. That only made it seem that she was squeezing tighter. Bleeding, she held firmly and the caped crusader was loosing consciousness. “Hey!” came a deep familiar voice. Negaduck? Yep. Negaduck had found them and came running up to them. “Sweets, what’re you doing? Not like I can’t see, but why?” “Cause I need to.” She growled angrily. “Alright,” he comforted acknowledgingly. “I know what this is about. You’re mad at me but you don’t want to hurt me so you’re taking it all out on Dipwing here.” She made no response, but continued to kill the duck in her hand. Negaduck no longer could stand the thought of a girl killing his rival, so he rubbed her arm and said, “Ok, I think that’s sufficient, dear. Let the moron go now.” She didn’t. “I mean NOW!” he said firmly but calmly. She dropped Darkwing who laid there, gasping for air. “You’re hurt!” Negaduck took notice of her arm. “Dorkwing, if you ever hurt her again…I’LL KILL YOU!!” He gave the gasping hero a kick in the ribs then they did nothing but walk away and Negaduck pleading for forgiveness to his angry girlfriend. When they got back to his hideout they had a long talk. “Honey, I’m sorry, but you just can’t go around like that and try to kill people!” “Why?! You do it all the time!” “Hmm, good point…. Well, I don’t do it in broad daylight!” “Oh what’s the difference!” “There’s a big difference! Trust me on this, dear!” “ ‘dear’??!! ‘DEAR’!!! What are you calling me that for??!!” “Because, I, uh,” he stuttered. The wait was too long for her. “Forget it!” she got up to stomp away. “No! Wait!!” he pleaded. She stopped in her tracks when Negaduck caught up with her. He swept his hand into hers, brought it up near his beak and caressed it with his free hand looking at it. “You’re so much like me, I want the best for you. Even though you’re just as stubborn; I’m sorry, but you are.” He looked up at her eyes. “I… think you’re an interesting young lady, and I want you to stay.” He kissed the back of her hand. “Please?” She gave him a disgusted throaty sound then said, “And I’m supposed to accept this from the Prince of Lies?” “You’ll just have to trust me on this one, cause I mean it from the heart.” “First you need a heart before you can get anything from it!” “If you want I’ll change!” This shocked Michelle. Negaduck would change for her?!! Absurd! “I don’t want you to change! I want you to stop yelling at me!!” “Sure, sure, darling! Anything!!” Cuddling for warmth, the duck duo slept soundly “So, where’re you taking me?” she asked anxiously. “You’ll see,” He fixed his blood red bowtie. “It’s obviously someplace fancy, and that means it’s expensive!” “I’ve got money to burn.” He assured her. “We going to do something romantic afterwards?” “Maybe,” he looked himself over in the mirror. “Ok, I’m ready.” He opened the door to his room and thought he was going to faint. “M…Michelle, you’re…gorgeous.” He said breathlessly as he looked over his girlfriend, dressed in a knock dead blue oriental-looking dress, with a nice side slit up to her thigh. She blushed and hid her face in her hands. He took her hands down away from her face and kissed them, noticing her red jewelry. “Negaduck!” she said, laughing; embarrassed. “Maybe we’ll just skip dinner and get right down to fun.” “No way. I’m way to hungry to skip dinner. C’mon, let’s go.” “Arg. Fine.” He stomps to the door and opened it for Michelle. “After you m’ lady.” “Why thank you sir.” They headed put to the “car”, which was really Negaduck’s monster truck, and they headed to dinner. There they ate and talked quietly to each other. His monster truck in the parking lot way out of place among the Lincolns, Jaguars, and Mercedes. “Wow. What a place. I didn’t know you knew about such high living!” “A lot of people don’t, Michelle. This is a side only you will see.” “Oh I’m honored.” “You should be. I’m a cheap son-of-a-bitch to everyone else!” She sighed a romantic sigh and Negaduck took her fingers in his hand and kissed them. “When we get back to my place I want to give something.” “You mean besides an adrenaline rush?” “Ooh, you cleaver little minx!” Michelle giggled. After they finished eating they headed “home”. On the way they talked. “Y’ know, this is weird,” “How’s that?” “We’re all dressed up and in a monster truck.” Negaduck though about that a moment. “Y’ know, we don’t have to go inside if you like it where you are.” “Negaduck!” She knew exactly what he meant; the same as in the restaurant. He laughed and she playfully slapped him on the shoulder. When things calmed down between them Michelle proceeded to say, “I’m glad you don’t think about sex all the time!” “No. Only when I’m with you.” “Why’s that?” He stopped the truck at their destination and turned to talk to her, “Cause you’re so beautiful and incredibly attractive.” He scooted over to sit in her seat with her and he started to kiss her neck. “Hon, can we do this indoors?” He grumbled after she got out, “Arg.” He hopped out and followed her inside. As she veered off to her room and Negaduck to his, he caught her attention, “Michelle, when you’re done, come visit me.” “Ok, I’ll be there soon,” About ten minutes later Michelle walked over to Negaduck’s door and knocked. “Yeah?” came the answer from beyond the door. She opened the door to see him fixing the buttons on the cuffs of his red, silk pj’s. Michelle whistled at him and he looked at her. “Yer not so bad yourself, gorgeous!” he stated. She was wearing flannel pj’s. “Thanks,” she said smiling, shyly. “So,” She gingerly sat on his bed and noticed that it was warm in there, almost too uncomfortably. Maybe that was from the light bulbs that lined his mirror. Michelle continued, “What did you want to show me?” He silently went over to his dresser and took something from a small dark box. Without revealing it, he walked over to her. “We’ve been through some times. I saved your life, you saved mine. And on top of that, we’ve developed feelings for one another. So…” he held her left hand, got down on one knee and revealed what he was holding: an impressive diamond ring. He slipped it on her ring finger. “Will you marry me?” He looked up to see her reaction. She was in shock of hearing these words being spoken to her. She was on the verge of tears. In fact, she did cry. Not because of the fact her life was changing drastically, but because she was so happy. She never thought this day would ever come for her because of rejection from society. “Are you ok?” he asked, rising to sit to his bed and wrapping an arm around her shoulders. She quickly nodded then hugged him around his neck. He hugged her back to comfort her. It took a while to calm down. By now, Negaduck seemed disappointed with not receiving an answer. He too, was rejected by society all his life. Was he to be shunned again? Unexpectedly, she turned to him and held his hands and said, “Of course I’ll marry you!” She leaned forward and kissed him. A smile began to grow on his face as he reached out and hugged her. He felt rascally and picked her up and laid her on the right side of the bed and covered her up. Then he went to close the door and turned off the lights. The room was engulfed in pitch-blackness. “Where are you?!” Michelle said, laughing. “Right here,” He hopped onto the bed and scooted over, next to her. They cuddled until they fell asleep. Next morning Michelle woke up and found Negaduck sleeping soundly with his bill on her shoulder. Sometime during the night he had unbuttoned his shirt and underneath revealed the soft white feathers. She gently laid her hand under his shirt, feeling the heat being released, and feeling the softest quality that you never thought possible. He woke at the contact. “Are you touching me?” “I felt compelled.” She kissed his cheek. He turned over to face her, resting his bill on a fist and the other on her shoulder. They leaned toward each other to kiss. “I gotta get going,” he grumbled. “Where to?” “Who knows. I actually never really know, for a fact, what I’m going to do until the opportunity comes.” “Gonna kill someone?” “Maybe…possibly” “Anyone I know?” “I tend to think not. Enough talking about me. I don’t want you to worry…” “I know you can take care of yourself.” “That’s not what I was going to say.” “Have I ever worried?” He gave her a look of doubt. “Ok, maybe a little,” she rolled her eyes. “Women always worry. Is it in the blood or something?!” “I think so,” He pondered about that a while, then got up and opened the closet doors. “Is that all you ever wear??!” Michelle asked, shocked. All that was in the closet was all the same outfit; Negaduck’s colors. That and weapons covered the floor of the closet; big ones, too! He half turned and looked over his shoulder at her. “No. Whatever’s not this outfit is in the dresser.” He picked out an outfit from the wide selection of nothing and put it on the bed. “Why don’t you get ready to go out and I’ll take you to breakfast.” “Ok,” she said quietly, then got up to go to her room. Later that morning, at breakfast, they ate at Negaduck’s favorite place (which generally was for every villain in St. Canard). Michelle spied a lot of familiar faces that morning. In fact, the Fearsome Four were there. When they spotted their boss they got up and walked over. “Boss? Are we going to do that plan of yours for Easter Union? You said we would.” Negaduck glared in their direction and they backed up a pace. “I think that means ‘no’ guys,” Michelle translated. “Who are you?” The Fearsome Four finally noticed her. Negaduck slouched in his seat and growled. Michelle pat his arm and rubbed it. “I suppose he wants me to say that I’m ‘none of your business’, but that’s not like me to say.” She looked into Negaduck’s eyes and he assumed that she was going to do as she wanted regardless of his interference. He let her do what she wanted. “ ‘Names Michelle.” “Well,” Bushroot began. “It’s…nice to meet you.” “Yeah, sure it is,” Megavolt added, non-skeptically. “So what’s your business with our boss?” Quackerjack accused. “My business is non of your business,” Negaduck couldn’t stand it any longer so he jumped up and yelled, “Would you knobs just go away!! I don’t need your hassles this early in the morning!” He would have proceeded to whip out the largest weapon he had on him, at that moment, if it weren’t for Michelle, who pulled him down on her lap and restrained him with a cuddle. The Fearsome Four were puzzled by this physical contact between the two. Then Megavolt noticed her ring. “Oh, that’s a nice ring!” “Oh, thank you,” The Liquidator noticed, “Well, wait a minute. That’s your ring finger. You’re engaged?” “Yep!” She held Negaduck tighter. “You’re cheating on your fiancé??!” “No! I’d never do that!!” she said in defense. “C’mon!! Let’s go! I can’t stand it here any longer!!” Negaduck got up and pulled Michelle along after him. She waved bye to the Fearsome Four and caught up the pace with Negaduck. “I love you,” she whispered in his ear. He wrapped his arm around her and held her close as they walked. When they reached The Trouble Maker, Negaduck shoved her forward. “So,” she said, hopping on and sitting sidesaddle. “Where ya want me to sit?” He realized how seductively she was sitting the way she was and on a bike. Kinda like a poster of a barely dressed, gorgeous gal on a Harley! “I’d love it if you could ride in front of me, but your hair would get in me way.” “You rather I sit behind you?” “Fine, whatever,” He climbed on and Michelle sat the proper way, snuggling up close to his back. He started up the motorcycle and took off for who knows where at an outrageous speed. They had an exciting day blowing up police head quarters, robbing some old lady’s house, eluded cops, and poisoning pigeons in the park. That evening, before dinner, the two of them sat on the roof to his hideout and watched the sun set. “Isn’t it beautiful?” “Yea, I suppose,” “Suppose?? Just you suppose??” “Yeah. This ain’t my thing; watching the sunset. It’s not you or anything. It’s me.” “Oh! I’m so sorry for you!” she said kindly. “See, I see sunsets as color to liven up dull lives. I see it as soul as color. Every sunset is different and no two are exactly the same! It’s also like Mother Nature being expressive. She can with flowers and water and especially the sky!” He looked over toward her, puzzled. She continued, “I also savor every color of the sunset every moment. I think of it as my last and I want to remember every detail and enjoy it to my fullest. You know?” “Yeah, I see where you’re coming from.” “You don’t, do you?” “No, I got no clue as to what you’re talking about, but I wanted you to feel good about it.” “Thanks, I feel much better,” she said skeptically. Negaduck chuckled and she slapped him playfully. He in return and then they got into a play fight. When they tired they laid on their backs and looked up at the depths of the sky. “I never thought I’d have this much fun with anyone!” Negaduck exclaimed. “’ Guess I’m not just ‘anyone’ then, huh?” she laughed. “You’re right. You are someone special, or else you would have been dead a long time ago.” That disturbed Michelle. “Yeah, well…” “I love you,” He held her cheek lightly and leaned toward her to kiss her. He was always a little too rough with her. “C’mon, let’s get inside,” He helped her up and they headed to the stairwell and down the stares. Negaduck reached the bottom first and turned around to see his love. She came down and, on the last step, she wrapped her arms around his neck and he took her down, as they kissed. “I love you so much,” she said. “I know,” he cooed. “And I love you too,” “Huh, you actor,” she taunted. “Aw, am I acting?” he asked in the same voice as before. “You’re never this nice.” “Can’t I be nice to my sweetheart?” “Yes,” she sang alluringly to him. “Well…” “C’mon,” She took his hand and led him down the hall. They went to eat dinner in a room of his hideout with Negaduck’s Gosalyn. It was Chinese takeout night. “So what did you and Lord Negaduck do today?” Gosalyn asked Michelle, politely. “Ah, we busted the police station and robbed some people. How was your day?” “Very nice, thank you. Oh! Today I took my English test and I got an 89!” “That’s nice,” Michelle said with as much enthusiasm as she could muster. “I always sucked at English. How ‘bout you?” she asked her sweetheart, next to her at the head of the table. Negaduck was haunched over his chicken fried rice pretending to be invisible. His elbows were on the table and one hand was holding the Chinese food container and the other held the chopsticks. He was silent for a while, then folded his hands on the table and glared at the girls, waiting for the topic to change, whom waited curiously. Michelle broke the silence. “Ok,” she said slowly. “Well Gosalyn obviously enjoys it.” The young girl at the table beamed in joy. Then Michelle’s ring caught her eye. “oh! That’s a really nice!” “What?” “ Your diamond ring!” “Oh, thank you. Y’ know, the Fearsome Four commented on it too.” “You met the Fearsome Four??! Wow! Are they nice?” Michelle glanced over at Negaduck, who was gritting his teeth and squeezing his fists. She rubbed one of his fists to try and calm him. “Gosalyn, can you excuse us?” “Oh, of course!” she hopped down, off her chair and left the room. When she was out of sight, Michelle lowered her eyes in disgust. “I think I hate her,” “Hmph, now you sound like me. How ironic.” He growled. “Aw, well,” she got up and sat on his lap and rested her arms on his shoulders. “Y’ know, you gotta lighten up or else you’re gonna get an ulcer and die an early age. I would not like that to happen!” “Yeah, whatever.” He said to make her happy as he diverted his eyes to the side. She rubbed his check and said, “Oh honey what can I do to make you happy? I really want you to be happy.” He thought about that. “You could kill Darkwing, take over this pathetic dimension, steal everything for me and get rid of the Fearsome Four Freaks,” Michelle thought about his demands, “Well, I actually do help you with some of those things! You’re not satisfied with me, are you?” He shrugged and wrapped an arm around her waist and held her tight. She in turn held him tighter. He sighed, exasperatedly. “C’mon, let’s get somewhere a little more comfortable,” he suggested. “Sure…woah!” He had picked her up and carried her to his room. “Oh, you’re such a romantic!” “Like I’m trying?” “I know!” Michelle said, alluringly and kissed his head. When they retreated to his room he slammed the door shut with his foot and set her on the bed. He, himself, hopped on and rested against her and played with her hair with one hand and the other was dedicated in holding up his head. “Yer cute. I can’t believe I love someone who’s cute, but I do,” “Eew! I’m cute??!! How’s that possible??!” “I don’t know, you just are,” She made a disgusted face at no one. Negaduck ran his feathered index finger along her cheek and down to her bill’s underside. He tilted her head to kiss her passionately. She rested her head on the pillow. After a while he stopped and looked at her. She said, “I outta be getting back,” “Must you?” “Yeah, Du Bois can’t feed themselves,” “Oh,” he said sounding rather disappointed. She got up and went to the door. “I love you,” “I love you too,: “You look so sad, Negs,” “ ‘S cause yer leaving. I promised to marry you, we’ve been together fer 24 hours and now yer leaving me!” “It’s not for long. Just till I see you next,” “Tomorrow?” “Tomorrow. Bye,” she said, quietly as she left the doorway. On the way back to her place she met up with some familiar faces. “Well, well, well. If it isn’t the infamous Michelle,” “What’s the matter, Quacky? Couldn’t find an insulting comment?” “Arg. No,” Megavolt teased his pal in laughter. “Shut up! I didn’t see you try!” “Yeah, well, I might be insane, but I’m not stupid! If I did come up with a comment likely she’d tell Negaduck, who in turn would beat me to electrons!!” “ ‘Remember, crazy, not stupid’,” The Liquidator quoted. Megavolt asked Michelle, “So, where ya headed?” “Home,” was her response. “Oh… Well, why don’t we escort you there? You never know what sort of crazies are on the street at this time of night!” Michelle stopped and stared a him. “WHAT???!” “ ‘What sort of crazies are on the street this time of night…’?” Quackerjack burst out in hysterical laughter. Bushroot chuckled, “Very witty,” After the jester calmed down there was a dead silence between the five of them and it wasn’t all that comforting. Michelle broke that silence, “I’m sorry. You’re not crazy, you’re just misunderstood,” There was a chatter of agreement. “So, let’s get going!” They started walking, following Michelle to her destination, two on wither side. “So, what are you doing with Negaduck if yer not cheating on your fiancé?” Bushroot was deep in thought, then said, “Maybe…she’s engaged to Negaduck,” At that everyone turned to stare at him. “Well, couldn’t she??!” The Four say together, “NAH!!!!” The watery villain says, “The boss doesn’t love anything but his own greed!” Michelle chimed in, “Well, maybe I just used my feminine charm on him?” They stared at her. The doctor plant duck said, “Well, I gotta say, you’re using your feminine charms on me,” “Yeah! Really!” Quackerjack adds. “Ditto!” Liquey says. They all stare at Megs. The jester asks his friend, “Megs? What about you??!” The rat shyly nods his head. She says, “Well, this isn’t good!” “Why’s that?” “I’m already engaged! I’m gonna get married to another guy!” “Yeah, speaking of which, who is he?” The clown asked with a cocked eyebrow. She heard under someone’s breath, “Yeah, so when we find out we can kill ‘em so we can fight over you,” Megavolt asked, “Do we know him?” Her response, “Umm, actually…yeah, you do know him,” Quacky said to himself, “Who could it be!” Bushroot says, “Well, I still think it’s Negaduck!” The rat adds, “No way! He’s so mean! Too mean for such a kind lady,” “Aw!! Megs!” She said dreamily. He blushed noticeably in the dark. “Alright! Enough with this mush! Who is it??!” the jester interrupted. “Yeah! The suspense is killing us!” “Alright, I can see I can’t put this off. My fiancé is…” Just at that moment Negaduck drove up in The Trouble Maker. She excitedly called, “Negaduck!” “Hey,” “Hey! I wasn’t expecting to see you!” “I came looking for you when you didn’t answer your phone. And what are these KNOBS doing here??!! They bothering you?” “They were walking me home,” “Oh yeah? Well not anymore. Hop on, it’ll be faster,” She walked over to Negaduck. “Sorry boys. It’s been fun,” She got on and they zoomed out of sight, leaving the four in a cloud of pollution. After some time of coughing, Megavolt said, “I think I’m gonna hate it when he does that,” “Ditto,” Meanwhile, Negaduck interrogated Michelle as he drove her to her place. “What the hell were you thinking talking to them??!!” he yelled over the revving engine. “You can’t tell me who I can and can’t talk with!” “Yes I CAN! I’m the one who’s gonna live with you fer the rest of my life! Not them!” “Love is a two way road, damn it!” “Oh yeah?! Well I got love and I got you. That is my two way road!” “You egotistical bastard, you!” “WHAT????!!!” he suddenly screeched the vehicle to a halt and turned around to her. “WHAT???!!!” She calmly, nonchalantly said, “I said you were an egotistical bastard.” “Huh. Well that don’t beat all. I’m marrying you and you’re calling me names!” “Well you yelled at me!!” she argued. “I was yelling so you could hear me!!” “You sounded like you were giving orders!” Negaduck became solemn in thought, and then sighed and grumbled, “I’m sorry. I can’t help it…” “Habit, I know! You need to break it. You really do!” “Yeah, I know…” He looked at the road then leaned over and hugged her. “ ‘s ok,” she breathed. “Well, let’s go before someone sees us,” He revved the engine and sped away. ************************************************************* The slamming of bared doors rang through the empty halls of the prison. “Negaduck? You’re going to be a father.” Back at home, Negaduck barged into the room. “Honey, come see!” whispers Michelle in thrilled excitement. He rushes over and holds her tightly. “Aw,” He breathed, “It…it’s a boy,” He felt a tear roll down his face. A jungle waterfall is seen, leading down to a clear pool and then they were sitting on a trim grassy field. It’s a family picnic and their son is toddling around the site and falling, occasionally, and crawling. Everyone is happy. Then there is a rumbling in the jungle, getting more and more intense with each passing second. A huge monster truck appears, destroying the foliage in its path. It’s a very evil looking Negaduck, more like the devil. He points a bazooka at the family. The eyes of the Drake in the field widen with horror and he screams as the weapon fires and everything explodes. After the dust clears, he sees his wife laying there, a dead, bloody mess. Negaduck abruptly sits up and pants. “It was a dream. Oh my god,” He realizes he’s sweating and his heart is beating hard and rapid. “More like a nightmare!” As he caught his breath, he looked down at Michelle, whom is sleeping soundly. He leaned down to softly kiss her cheek. He had decided to stay the night to make sure the Fearsome Four wouldn’t stop by. Maybe I’m over protective, he thought. He stroked her hair and brushed his hand over her cheek. He looked at her with loving eyes, then caught himself. He jumped out of bed and got dressed. “I gotta get outta here,” It was 3 a.m. and Negaduck went out for a drive. Maybe the night air would snap him back to his senses. Damn it!, he thought. What the hell’s wrong with me?! He decided a murder and a bombing would help. At the St. Canard Insurance Company, Negaduck broke in and lined each floor with bombs. Sneaking back out, he went across the street to the bank and aimed the camera outside toward the building, without it spotting him. He then went to his detonation controller. Grinning and chuckling to himself he said, softly, “I hope you guys got insurance!” He slammed his finger down on the button and watched as the building went up in a cloud of dust and ash and came down in rubble. “I’ve always wanted to say that…” he said grinning to himself. It was a spectacular sight, one worthy for the records. He felt a little better. Now his next objective was to rob the bank. He pointed the camera back to it’s original position and then made his way to the roof. On the roof Negaduck mapped out where everything was and stopped at a certain spot and dropped down to one knee. He whipped out his favorite chainsaw and sawed a hole in the roof. After he was finished, he dropped down into the hole. He was inside the vault! Looking around with greedy eyes, he went for the jewels first and then the big bucks. After he was finished he took out a grappling hook and flung it out of the hole he came in and made sure it caught, then he climbed out with his loot. Back on the roof, once again, he mapped out where he was going; the security room. Being very precise, he made sure he was in the right spot and started sawing away yet another hole in the roof. The chunk landed on the unsuspecting guard and was out cold. There would probably be a camera down there as well. He did a quick peek and sure enough there was one but it hadn’t seen the scene yet. He took it out with one shot and then dropped down into the room as it popped and frizzled. He whipped around to look at all the VCR’s and television screens. “Better make this quick!” From one of the screens, Negaduck saw the cops and fire trucks at the blown-to-bits building. He scanned around for the camera he used and then was led to it’s VCR, popped out the tape, hid it away and was on his way out. Someone was coming and he made it out just in time for the locked door to be broken down. He went to gather his things. “Ooh! Wait till she gets a load of this!!” he said to himself, excitedly. He hopped down into the ally where his motorcycle, The Trouble Maker, was waiting for him and sped off with no trouble from the people there. However when he passed a police vehicle on duty, he gave chase. It was 6:20 a.m. when she heard the door close. “Where’d you go?” “Out. I got breakfast!” He held up a pre-made bagel. “Aw! You didn’t have to,” “Yes I did! I’m starved! You think I got this for you?!” Her eyes widened in shock. “No, I’m kidding. I did get them for you, whilst I got one for me!” he handed one to her, made just the way she likes it. She went to sit and eat it and Negaduck sat in her lap and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. “How’d you sleep, honeywumpus?” “Ok, I guess. You?” “I had a bad night.” “Oh! Why?” “I don’t know. I dreamt about you,” “You DID?! How interesting! Come, tell me?” “No, I’d rather not,” he said with a hint of embarrassment. “Oh! So it was a bad dream, then!” He solemnly nodded, not wanting to remember it, but it was as vivid in his mind as if it’d just happened. She hugged him. “It’s ok, it was only a dream!” “I know, but it was real scary,” “A nightmare even?! YOU getting a nightmare?!” “Ironic, isn’t it? Oh! I want to show you something!” He gets up and pulls out the tape from his jacket and pops it in the VCR and plays it. They migrate to the couch. After MUCH fast-forwarding they watched the building go down, blown up from the inside out! They laughed. “You did that?!” “Yep, yep yep!” he let out a sigh. “Last night?!” “Three in the morning!” “Wow! You REALLY couldn’t sleep!” He morbidly said, “Yeah,” “My poor sweetie! Why don’t you come take a nap? I’ll take one with you!” “Thanks,” She touched his cheek affectionately as he took her up in his arms and cuddled her. Right then and there he fell asleep. “Hon? What are you doing? Hon?!” She laid his head on the couch and cooed, “Aw, he’s asleep! How cute!” She ruffled the feathers on his cheeks and laid him down on the couch. Making sure he wouldn’t be uncomfortable, she covered him up. Then she snuggled down right next to him, real close, but really gently, so not to wake him. She read her book for a few hours. Negaduck opened his eyes and saw his fiancé snuggling up to him, fast asleep. Gently wrapping an arm around her, he cuddled closer yet. For a few minutes they were like that, then he craned his neck down to kiss her ever so gently. “Hmm?” came the sleepy response. “I wanted to see you beautiful shining eyes, looking up at me,” She hugged and cuddled him, then ruffled some more feathers on his face. They grew closer for a passionate kiss. He usually hated sunny, blue skies, but then he thought, maybe he’d think differently from now on. |
