Water Dad! “Bu-uddy-y, I love you,” she sang. “Love you too, Baby. Goodnight,” “ ‘Night,” The married pair finally relaxed themselves and nestled down into bed. Bud Flood laid awake, staring at the ceiling and thought about his past before his beautiful blushing bride. How did he ever manage to survive without her?! Creeeeaaaak. Buddy looked at the door to his bedroom and saw a little shadow. “Daddy, I hadda nightmare,” “Aw, Shelby! Come here and Dad will protect you from your nightmares.” The little German Spitz girl came in, in her pink and white-laced trim nightgown and her teddy bear. She climbed onto the bed and manhoovered around her mother’s legs to get around to her Daddy to get under the cover and to snuggle down in their warmth. “Thank you Daddy,” “Sure thing, sweetheart. Goodnight, sleep well.” “You too, Daddy,” The next morning the sun shone blindingly through the curtains and stirred the couple; the child still asleep, safe from the rays. Baby stirred and looked to her husband, who was still asleep. What scared her was the fact that Buddy is rather clear, so seeing something other than the blankets and furniture through him startled her. “Buddy! What’s that?!” “Huh? What?” he asked, tiredly. “That!?” He turned to see their adopted daughter sleeping next to him. “It’s just Shelby, Baby.” “Oh!” she sighed. “She had nightmares?” “Yeah,” “Poor girl!” “Yeah. I wonder what she’s gone through…” Shelby was adopted by them a year ago. She’s a little German girl who was found in America and taken to the nearest American orphanage. Not much is known about little Shelby because of her young age and lack of comprehension. It was only till recently that she started calling the married pair by their respective parental names. It was hard to get her used to the idea that she would be staying with them for a long time. It was awkward for the couple to question Shelby’s past, in fear of digging up terrible memories and scaring her or worse, so they left her as is. They got up and went down the hall to make breakfast. Buddy put his perculator on the gas stove and sat down to read the morning’s paper at the kitchen table. He was buried in an article when Baby set his cup of coffee down in front of him. He snapped out of that trans he gets into when he reads to shift the paper to look at his wife, then at his cup on the table. “Oh, thank you,” “No problem honey!” She kissed his head and went about making breakfast. Buddy continued reading, finished the current article, then shifted over to the next page, his favorite, NASDAQ, S&P500, and, of course, the Dow Jones. Since the Fearsome Five broke up, Buddy became what he always wanted to be, a stock broker. How else do you think he earned so much money in the time he’s been working? He’s the best there is in St. Canard and that’s where people go. He enjoys the mundane life of a normal citizen of the city. He comes home to put his wife to sleep with the news of his day! It’s great for once to not come home, after being chased or arrested and not tell his family about how big the gem was that they stole or how they totally demolished Darkwing. It was a normal life for a puddle of water… Okay, so maybe HE wasn’t totally normal himself, but, he made due. |
