October 4 ~ Monday
This is National Fire Prevention Week. Reminder: check the batteries in your smoke alarms. Do you have a family meeting place outside, in the event of a fire? Patty the Pumpkin (or puppet for the month) talked to us about what you should do if there was a real fire. We talked about how if your clothes catch fire you should stop, drop, and roll. We practiced it and played a fun game, every time we heard the whistle we stopped, dropped, and rolled. The kids thought this was great fun! We also practiced “crawling under the smoke“. Kimberly put up a folding table and draped it with a blanket and we crawled under the pretend smoke. We painted a picture of fire. We talked about firefighters and how they are your friends and want to help you in a fire. They may look scary but they will not hurt you. We put on play clothes and pretended to be a fire fighter. We introduced our Math Manipulative for this month, it is a fire truck and fire fighters. We will be working with it all month and then your child will bring it home at the end of the month. I will give you ideas of what we have done here all month so you can work on it with your child at home. Today we just discussed more about the firefighters clothing and their masks and the protection their uniforms give. We did Calendar Time and Weather Bear. Your child should be bringing home Parent Note # 1 today and a song sheet for the month.
