In order to rush to Taiwan, Lee Hom endured a 25h flight, transitting through 5 countries, just hoping to reach Taiwan as soon as possible, donating all receipts from the new song "Love never disappears" to An Tai children's fund, doing his bit to help the victims.
Stopping a semester from Berklee, Wang Lee Hom now concentrates on his singing technique lessons. Through SonyMusic International, Lee Hom met and currently trains under William Riley, vocalist teacher of Maria Carey and Celin Dion. Four times each week, Lee Hom shuttles between New York and Boston to receive the training. In order to improve his singing techique, Lee Hom put in so much effort and hard work that even won the praise of his teacher!
Lee Hom said that on the night of the 921 quake, he had just ended his lesson and was at home watching the news. The reports of bloody scenes of the victims by CNN shocked him and had him rushing to the phone to call Taiwan, only to hear a recorded message about Taiwan's telephone lines being busy at the moment. In a moment of anxiety, he mailed many emails to friends and relatives in Taiwan regarding their safety, but waited in vain.
"Only on the next day did i receive a letter from the representative of my fan club, asking me to donate some money for medical supplies in Taiwan and I sent the money straight away."
The continuous number of earthquakes claimed many casualities, from the initial forty, to four hundred, till the two thousand deceased victims registered. In a moment of sorrow, Lee Hom received a sad email, saying a fan of his has died in the rubble, bringing him to the rocks of despair.
"Yesterday, i went personally to the airport and managed to secure a seat after much waiting but the flight took 25h and flew through 5 countries! However, in order to reach Taiwan as soon as possible, i had no choice but to take it."
Ever so charity driven, earlier Lee Hom had donated the receipts from the song "Frozen Dreams" to the World Love fund. This time, Lee Hom personally penned the tune and invited lyricist, Shi Fang to write the lyrics of the song "Love never disappears". He expressed that the receipts to this song will go to An Tai children's fund, helping to support orphans who had lost both parents in the incident.
Taking a week's leave, Lee Hom flies to Hong Kong today (5/10/99) to prepare his new album. Due to his busy schedule, Lee Hom is unsure if he will be personally singing "Love never disappears" himself, but the single will be out soon in order to raise funds for the victims quickly.
