Leehom doesn't care about album sales

"Video Idol" mag, issue 414 30/6/00

Risen in status after the "Golden Melody Awards" 2 years back, Leehom has repeatedly exclaimed that the title "Music King" is too much for him to bear. So how exactly has the twin crowning of "Melody King" and "Best Producer" changed leehom's attitude to music?

"Apart from demanding the best out of me musically, putting enough hard work and sincerity are important too, in each and every album then i do. I would definately add my musically, phyiscally and emotionally growth into the album too. I have never thought of anything as in regards to which award i win, how much sales i would rake in or writing a song specially for a certain market. If you were to ask me what am i really up to, i would say i just want to keep doing fresh things, and such things can be contributions to the Mandarin music industry."

Actually Leehom's contribution to the Mandarin music industry can be seen through his music, but he still humbly said that he only do so much to an extent.

"I feel that i cannot accomplish this task by myself, it has to be a combined effort of this generation's musicians. As to what contribution we can do to this era of music, i am only a small part of it."

After given recognition in the music industry, Leehom plans to stretch his career by moving into the movie industry.

"I find that asian artistes are very fortunate in the sense that they are not restricted to their own field but they have a lot of opportunites to sing, act, shoot commercials....etc, plus they can do it all at the same time."

Leehom has expressed a deep interest to the many number of scripts that has been knocking at his door, but has yet to confirm anything. Besides the lack of time, Leehom still has many factors to consider first.

"Actually making an album and a movie is very different. When making an album, i am the producer hence i can control a lot of things and my timing. However shooting a movie involves hundreds of people, also we need to make a compromise between the actors' busy schedule therefore there will be a lot of changes and these changes are all beyond my control. Thus i will be putting my concentration now on music, as it is more dependable. Acting can wait til later."

However, recent news has said that Leehom's manager has accepted a few movie offers, intending to let Leehom enture into the movie industry. If this is really true, his fans can have something to look forward for.

Note: Leehom is now in the midst of filming his 1st movie in Shanghai with Aaron Kwok.
