Andre Breton was a French Surrealist poet who studied the unconscious by experimenting with the phenomenon of automatic writing.
This project was given in the spirit of pure experimentation with the hope of catching a glimpse of other consciousness levels that are always present within us, but rarely perceived. Touching the unknown is the beginning of the realization that there is much to learn about one's own nature
I was given a template with 4 grid areas on which to create my images. The purpose was the try not to think about what I was doing, but to let my automatic functions take over, letting them proceed as they wished, using the tools of Adobe Illustrator 9 as my guide. As a result, the final design came from a deeper, more intuitive impulse, rather than my normal way of solving problems.
Looking back on this project, I am very happy as to the way it came out. I see 4 separate images, yet looking at the design as a whole, the 4 images come together as one. |
