Tokyo Updates: Hotel and railways

I have booked my hotel! ^.^ I'm going to stay at the Oak Hotel in Ueno, just an 8 min. walk from the Ueno station. ^-^ After talking with my friends in Japan, I don't think I'm buying a JR pass. since I'm only sticking around Tokyo, I might not have to pay so much if I don't get the pass. (So far, the estimated cost for the pass is 25000 yen and without the pass it's like under 10000 yen. O.o) I can just buy a prepaid JR card, SUICA. (The mascot of the card is a penguin. ^-^) I use it like a metro card...I think. I just wonder how would use it to get on express trains and stuff.... *runs off to the Japan forums*

Jenn-chan's B-day part 1: Restaurant not open on mondays

That's Amore Restaurant turned out to be closed yesterday *kicks the wall* so we went to Shabu Shabu at Jenn's request. Afterwards, Jenn-chan's friend met up with us and we went to Jenn's house for MJ, Taboo and cake.

Part 2: 'Dark is good, I like the dark.'

Funny moment during cake time.... While Jenn and friend were messing with MJ, P-chan and I snuck into the kitchen on the pretense of 'I'm thirsty, need water.' ^.^ After P-chan lit the candles (me failing to light up anything due to the lighters and my cold fingers ^^;) I sent P-chan ahead to turn off the lights. P-chan proceeded to the lamp and stated. 'Why is this on? It's too light in here.' 0.o The ppl were like 'It's too dark.' Her reply, 'I like it this way.' She said this as she turned off the other lamp. ^-^ Than I entered and we sang happy b-day. rofl Jenn-chan knew about the cake, but this mini-surprise too funny.... ^.^ P-chan: the mistress of diversion. ^.^

Part 3: Taboo x2

Earlier in the evening, we found out that Jenn-chan already bought Taboo...the gift that P-chan and Pearl-chan bought for Jenn's b-day. ^^; P-chan had the gift receipt, but it turns out that she didn't need it anyway since Jenn was thrilled with the second box since she wouldn't have to worry about keeping her cards/game in pristine condition. ^.^ Next, maybe we should laminate the cards to further perserve them.... *runs off to Office Max* ^.^

Tanjoubi Omedatou, Jenn-chan!

Today's wma is from Naruto, the first ever anime that really got Jenn-chan into anime. Hope you enjoy it, girl! ^.^

10 random facts about Jen

    1. Her favorite soup (from my father's restaurant) was (and always will be ^.^) Hot and Sour soup. (She had one bowl practically every day afterschool in junior high.)
    2. Her junior high crushes all have nicknames...because she never really approached them. (Those she actually spoke to retain their nicknames for kawaii purposes. ^.^)
    3. She knew how to ballroom dance (waltz, tango...etc...) since she was 8.
    4. Her past to present pets (aka. animals that lived at her house-not all at once): two dogs, a cat and a hamster (gerbil?).
    5. She moved at least 3 times since I met her: Bayside to somewhere, than to her present location, Flushing. (Not counting the times she moved into and out of her boarding school somewhere in Penn.? ^^;)
    6. Before Naruto, she watched another anime and became akin to a character. (A boy-crazy girl in a green miniskirt. ^^;)
    7. Her fav. 'drink' from when she was young was a strawberry drink which turned out to be virgin strawberry colada. (My fav. too. ^.^)
    8. She is a fantastic cook. Her specialties are handmade wontons with shredded beef noodle soup.
    9. She went to a Catholic junior high and an all girls boarding school for high school. (Her bookbag in junior high weighs as much as Pearly's in high school. O.o)
    10. She knew how to play pool since she was 12 years old. (Not well, but at least she knew how. ^^;)

Jenn-chan's B-day Plans

As discussed with P-chan, she was in charge with 'Plan A' and me with 'Plan B'. Plan A is if Alby-kun is willing to drive, we'll head to Minado LI. Plan B is taking the bus to 'Thats Amore Restaurant' in Qns. ^.^ Just another 45 min...than tanjoubi omedatou, Jenn-chan! ^.^

Jenn-chan's B-day Memories

Last year, Jenn-chan, P-chan, Pearl-chan and I went to Minado NY for lunch. (I remember it quite well since I bought my wool winter coat at Macy's. ^.^) As her present, I gave her a visa gift card.

Tomorrow, we'll be making more memories. ^.^ Right now...I need to go take a shower. (Before my hostess-cute as she is-will start throwing towels at me. ^^;)

Kinokuniya book signing

It was so cool seeing Youka Nitta-sensei. (Pictures will be posted...when I get the pictures. ^_^) There weren't that many people which was a good and bad thing. Good: we didn't wait that long. Bad: BeBeautiful didn't do that good in advertising since alot of yaoi fans should've been there. Oh wellz.... ^^; I met up with Pearl-chan at the signing and then headed out to Qns. for dinner.

Salmon and Eel are NOT the same kind of fish.

My friend ordered a salmon dish...but received an eel dish instead. O.o The funny thing was, the waitress couldn't tell the difference. O.O Okay, since the waitress spoke Chinese, I told her the names of the fishes in Chinese...but I don't think she cared. I suggested that she inform the manager to change the menu. (Turns out that they didn't have salmon at all. >.<;) Oh wellz, I finally explained it to the manager (or the person I thought who was the manager) but it seemed he already knew. *.* Oh well...not my restaurant....

^-^ Tonight I'm sleeping over P-chan's. Right now...I pulled my neck. >.< Pearl-chan is massaging it...so hopefully I'll be better...soon...so that o-kaa-san will not have to send me to the chiropracter again.... ^.^;

Ohayo gozaimas!

Yesterday, I bought my Japanese phrase book, not the Berlitz one, but 'Japanese At a Glance' by Barrons. (P-chan and I decided that the Berlitz one was very indept, but lacked the touristy convos that I needed. ^^;) This morning, I learned how to count to 10 in Nihongo (Japanese.) Before, I could only remember to count to 5.... ^^; Let my Japanese lessons begin! ^-^

'Chiisaki Mono'^-^

P-chan gave me my belated Christmas present (aka. 'Congratulations-you-got-a-raise' present ^-^) yesterday. ^__^ The gift is the DVD music video of 'Chiisaki Mono' by Asuca Hayashi, the one I wanted from my holiday wish list. ^-^ *squeals* P-chan, you're the best! Arigato!

*takes a deep breath* I GOT A RAISE!!!! ^__^ At the beginning of the year, we were evaluated. Instead of an 'end-of-the-year' bonus, we had the chance to get a raise. (A rarity in our line of work. ^-^) I got back to my desk (from my appt.) and my supervisor said 'Check your e-mail.' I did. O.O *gasp* (I almost squealed. ^^;) And, I got a raise!!! *dances happily*

Okay, this friday, I'm treating you guys to dinner! ^-^ And P-chan, please leave your credit card at home; I don't want to have to wrestle the check away from you...again. ^-^;

When a man loves a man....

.... Thats the title of the book I got from 'Book-off'. ^.^ 'When a Man Loves a Man', the first in the series by Youka Nitta-sensei. I wrote down her name (in kanji...which thankfully are Chinese characters. ^^;) Initially, I tried to look for the book myself. I found the shonen-ai/yaoi section (also found 'Dear Myself' and 'World's End' by Eiki Eiki again...but didn't buy it...again *sigh*) but couldn't find the mangaka I want. Since I needed to get back to the office, I showed the worker there my bad calligraphy. She spoke a little English and she pointed me to a small selection by Nitta-sensei. ^.^ I picked out my book, thanked her in Japanese and gloated over my purchase. *happy sigh*

This friday will be awesome! ^.^

JR confusion

I have been looking into info about the JR pass and the JR line (Japan Rails company.) Too many limitations, explanations.... There are green cars which are first class and ordinary cars which are...well regular. ^^; I can get a green pass $$$ or an ordinary pass $$, for 5 days $$ or 10 days $$$. And it only works for the JR lines which doesn't include other companies that inhabit that share the transportation economy with the JR. (Which is good to keep prices low, but confusing for me.... ^^;) Too many details, I must look into it...after I go to this appt. and hit book off. ^-^

She will be here in time for her US release of her 3rd vol. of 'Embracing Love.' (More info on the BeBeautiful site. ^-^) I have seen various stories, but haven't gotten the chance to really read them. I'm planning to get permission to leave work early (for very important reasons ^.^) and head to Kinokuniya. I hope to have a book by that time.... (Time to hit Boof off? I got in contact with both of my co-workers (yay ^.^) and one of them is offering to give me an 'orientation' when I get there so I can go about on my own. ^-^ I made special arrangements with the airline company for o-kaa-san today, so everything should be set. The only major thing left for me to do is make the reservations and buy my JapanRail pass. I'll do that tomorrw, after I hear from my co-workers again. ^^;

I decided on buying Berlitz Japanese Phrase Book. I'm going to buy it on friday (or at least o-kaa-san will ^^;).

Doshite?!? Why?!?

I hurt my back again. No, I was not jumping. Last night when I was sitting, I felt the beginnings of a familiar pain in my back and this morning it got worse. Since I could still somewhat walk, I went to Flushing (o-kaa-san drove of course) to see the chiropractor. He cracked all the bones in the body X.X Itaii...painful.... The last time, I was numb from the shot the doctors in the ER gave me, so I didn't really feel the pain. This time...owie.... I can walk, stand. The pain is still in my back and hips. When I was at the chiropractor, I asked the doctor, "Is the cracking sound I hear my back...or your hands?" His reply was, "Your back." O.O I didn't realize my back can make so many sounds.... ^^; Okay, time to adjust my posture. *straightens up* *.*

February Sucks! rant

Except for Jenn-chan being born in this month, I hereby declare that February sucks to Hell. XP Not only do I carry extremely horrible memories of these times, but may I also mention the number of funerals that seems to come along. Yeah, it's only two, but two is enough isn't it? (Rhetorical question, don't answer.) Couple years back on 2/15, I played at a memorial service for my grandfather. Last saturday, I played at another memorial service (total stranger.) I played at another funeral before...but I don't remember when. I just remembered that there was a dead body next to me. O.o Yeah, don't you love funerals? *heavy sarcasm* I didn't write much about the memorial service last saturday since I watched 'The Cat Returns' and totally fell in love with the movie. However, now that my mind has cleared, the horror remains. *sigh* I want time to pass quickly, yet I wish for more time to finish my work AND plan my vacation....

Men and yaoi do not mix ^^;

There is a yaoi rant in the fandom wank forum. This one girl sparked the wank with the declaration that "Guys shouldn't read yaoi since they apparantly are not the targeted audience." *paraphrasing ^^;* She also makes a statement that "Guys loving each other are NOT gay." O.o The first statement was enough to start the crack.... FYI, yaoi(boys love) = shoujo(girl manga) lol Does the same go for girls than? Damn, after reading this post, I'm having a sex identity crisis since the majority (if not all) of the anime/manga I like are shounen (guy manga.) ^.^; Maybe I'm a gay guy trapped in a girls body since I like shounen manga AND I think the guys are hot.... 0.0 Kurama.... *drools* (Lets not get started on the yaoi, shota and shonen ai stuff that I also like. ^.^)

Final Story Blurb

I did my usual morning thing and finally finished my last story. Ever. This has taken alot of time this past couple of months and I'm so happy to get it out of my system. I don't have the heart and inspiration to continue writing. I don't even know what to write even if I wanted to write something. (Which I don't.) I haven't uploaded the story...and I don't know if I should.

I once wrote a plot summary for this story, but never actually sat down and wrote the whole of it. I just had the beginning, some description ofthe middle and decided to write out the full ending (since that was the clearest picture in my mind.) Last year (Dec. '05) I decided to truly complete this story. (No regrets, right?) It has taken me a awhile, but it's done. I changed/added names, explored different interactions and thoughts and tried to retain some of the original 'vision' of the story. Since the ending was the only thing I really wrote in the past, I kept the ending the way it was. If you want to read it or just stare at it or whatever, just leave a msg in the box and I'll upload it. Either way, it has joined the mess of stories in my 'box' along with the rest of my written crap.

Now that this is done, I can finally concentrate on translating the poems for my mother's friend. ^^; Yeah, it's still not done, but now I have time to do it. ^-^

Work related stress

I work with clients. Its great that they are independent and do things on their own. However, I hate it when I have to clean up after them if they make a mistake or didn't do something they should've (but didn't know.) I'm overloaded with clients that I'm dealing with on my own. That is the ultimate problem. I'm a case manager. I'm suppose to concentrate on appointments. They ask me to go somewhere, I check my schedule, I'm free than I go. No problem, right? But right now I have client's that solely depend on me. I need to make calls. I need to find attorneys. I need to write letters. This is nuts!?! x.x I need to think of everything I need to do and do it, because I also need to fulfill the 'case management' part of my job and run around.

I have never been so stressed. It's all been culminating up to now. I don't know what to think.... Tomorrow, I have to go to meet a client and her PA worker because we need to tell her worker that she is a DV victim and that she emotionally unstable so she can't WORK. >.< This kind of talk was suppose to happen when she first applies for PA. But no, I didn't have time to take her, so she took the initiative and went by herself. To a center that does not speak chinese. To a worker that doesn't understand her needs. >.< So now, I have to go with her and I know this will be a start of a million of problems, just because the freakin PA workers can't speak the language!!!! >.<; No, it's not only the language, it's not only the workers, but I have to deal with my stress and assist women who are stressed because of their abusive husbands/boyfriends. Men! I love this job and everything, but I truly wish the abusive situations can simmer down a bit so I can at least catch up with what I need to do. *headdesk* XP

I'm extremely happy and now will be able to truly plan my vacation in Japan. By the end of this week, I should have the details down. Afterall, I need to start working on my convention stuff. ^^;

Surprise Casino Weekend

Somehow, I invited myself to an overnight trip to Mohegan Sun with Alby's crew. 0.0 On saturday, I found out that there was a Emil Chou concert and that I was able to go. Alby's friend (whom I met same day) said that he'll 'accommodate me.' O.O So, at 5:30pm, I found myself in a Lexus heading to CT.

Asian + youth = prey

I've been to Mohegan several times before, couple times before I turned 21. I never got carded there before, but this time, as soon as I stepped through the entrance to enter the casino floor, this middle aged European woman asked for my ID. No prob, I get this alot (from work and everything.) I whipped out my driver's license and I'm clear. This wouldn't be as significant if we didn't get additional trouble from this woman (not towards me.) But damn, the shorter end of my temper was about to flare (long car ride maybe. ^^;) Hell, we even had trouble with some of the staff of the casino later on as well, and it wasn't even our fault. *sigh* Just because we're cute and Asian doesn't mean that they should consider us easy targets. XP

High roller luxery

I didn't really understand what Alby's friend meant by 'accommodating' me. I assumed that I'm joining in on their fun and that we'll deal somehow since I was an addition. I didn't realize until later that 'accommodate' meant that everything was taken care of. O.O Rooms, tickets, food...tv.... ^.^ I enjoyed myself immensely.

I spent most of the evening window shopping and looking for glow/rave sticks. Nothing. >.<; I saw little kids playing with them and I didn't ask them where they bought it. Oh wellz.... My favorite store (from before and still) was the 'OdySea' since it has aquarium of tropical fishes in the doorway and inside the store.

See Emil Chou...wave!

The concert was at 1pm. Our seats was in the 3rd section, on the floor, in the seats front left of the stage. The singer was Emil Chou...from before Alby's generation. lol, he was very cute (in a 'smile and people go aww' kind of way. ^.^) The band included a string quartet, two bass, two guitars (singer played,) and drums. I really enjoyed the drum, violin and bass solos. (Yeah, I'm totally biased. ^-^) My fav. part of the concert was when he sang 'Fly Me to the Moon.' Not one of his songs of course, but enjoyable all the same. (I totally love this song from the Eva anime, hence the choice of today's mp3. ^.^)

Emil made a funny comment: he said that every time he gets close to the crowd, fans scream and reach for him. Since people who don't know his songs do the same, he later concluded that when people want him to get closer, he saids they they only like him for his body. ^.^ True in my respects....

After the concert ended (3-4am in the morning,) we sat in the lobby area of the hotel waiting for the elevators to clear up (too many people from the concert going up.) Turning around, I spotted the violinist from the band. Fangirling a bit, I grabbed my book and a pen and asked for his autograph. ^.^ The bassist signed his name as well (he was so nice, even when I confused him with the cellist. ^^;) I was thinking of waiting around for the singer, but I doubt I'll be able to find him. Totally tired, we went up to sleep.

Sunday = no church = sleep+eat

I woke a couple of times in the morning to contact church ppl ('I'm sorry, I can't play piano today...I'm not in Stony...I'm at Mohegan.' ^^;) In between meals, I slept alot and watched tv. I was sooo tired. I don't like to gamble, but I liked watching people spend money. Watching a guy gamble $100-$300 a hand at blackjack, I kept thinking 'Man, I can buy my cellphone with that money.' or '$500! I can buy so much anime....' Yeah, my priorities.... ^^;

Spirited Away vs. Superbowl

Spirited Away was on tv...and so was the Superbowl. I watched the movie many many times, since I have the dvd at home. ^.^ But I still enjoy watching it again and again. Poor Alby, since I controlled the remote, he had to watch 'Spirited Away,' but he got to watch the game in between the commericals. ^.^ After the movie ended, he had his fill of the game over dinner. (The high roller chinese buffet had widescreens showing the game. ^.^)

We came back from the casino around 12am. I slept over P-chan's and came to work today. *yawn* Kinda sleepy, but totally relaxed. It was an unexpected and interesting weekend. Do I dare to say that I can't wait for next time? ^^; lol, I dunno, I'll have to see. (Even though he'll never read this,) domo arigato, John! ^.^

FMA novel 2 out!

So many good things...amazon is finally selling FMA novel 2 (the release date was Jan. 10, but they released it like this week. >.<) I don't know if I'm going to buy it from amazon or buy it used or buy it from strand for half off. *.* I think I will wait...there are just too much stuff that I want to do first....

Ganbatte, P-chan!

Me cheering you on from whereever I am. ^.^
