sharing our strengths

I think this may the first (and possibly only) 07 Ghost episode that doesn't have much in terms of BL hints in it. Good thing or bad? Well, we'll leave that to our imaginations. ^.^ I finally got around to watching ep. 21 and they're finally beginning their bishop exams. The episode first seagueways into exactly why the army is so bent on finding the Eye of Mikhail and in turn, explaining why they're after Teito in the first place (though they never mention him by name.) Of course, I believe Ayanami has plans of his own...world domination, sex and all that good stuff. ^.^

At the beginning of the examination, we finally have a name for the character for seiyuu Romi Paku/Edward Elric-niisan-type. Oiuda (who I can't imagine pronouncing his name correctly) steps up to help Teito. Apparently, they know each other well enough to hold hands. (Possibly the only slight BL hint in the episode. ^.^) And thus, the exam begins. I wish they did more in the exams themselves since the episode feels very rushed...or perhaps it's because I want to see them use their zaiphons more. Or I'm just too used to Gundam and Dragon Ball Z type of battles that lasts more than a century. ^^; Even with all the foreshadowing and seriousness in the beginning, that tension never gets addressed as the focus is on the examination. And the results...are obvious. Even when they're before the last door facing the major question...you know what will happen. But it's sweet and funny all the same.

BTW, I'm now wondering, are the two old men trying to help Teito pass the exam or hinder him as a form of a test? Even Bishop Lance (who started out as a dickhead) turns out to be pretty normal too. Well, characters are not always good or bad and I'm glad we have these types of characters to prove that surprises can come from the unlikeliest people.

farce

Pandora Hearts has a way of breaking into my thoughts and pulling out the strongest emotions that makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time. Perhaps it's because it addresses the issues of loneliness and the past...but lets not talk about me.

Episode 21 turns the story to the main plot and though it shows more information than ever, it never fills any holes. More are created as we are thrust into Break's past. The duke isn't who he really seems and neither is Break. Gilbert apparently started smoking within the 10 years and have no hope of stopping. Power Gilbert. ^^; His ties to the past are as strong as Break...as we have seen in previous episodes. And of course, the 'past' we are addressing is the Tragedy of Sabrie. The white rabbit appears in full glory (which makes me wish I coul cosplay her) and although the episode ends with more questions left unanswered, it leads into the hope that the series will be more than 26 episodes. If this explanation has left you confused, you are in the perfect state of mind to watch this episode since that is how you'll feel anyway. ^^;

marathoning Gundam

Fighter came over yesterday around 5pm and we watched Gundam 00 until this evening. We slept of course...actually pretty early like around 11pm. ^.^ It was nice being able to marathon the series with her. She fell in love with the SetsunaxSaji pairing which I didn't notice as much the first time around. ^-^ I caught some more LockonxTiera hints though. 'You fell for that man.' roflol Both of us can't wait for the movie! We wonder if Tiera will somehow get a body...he can't do anything without a body.... *imagines Tiera* *nosebleeds*

Kansai trip

    [ + ] Kyoto
Thurs, Aug. 20 - Kinkakuji Temple, Ryoanji Temple, Kiyomizu Temple, Fushimi Inari Shrine
Fri, Aug. 21 - Kyoto Manga Museum, Imperial Palace, Heian Shrine, Gion

    [ + ] Kyoto, Nara, Osaka

Sat, Aug. 22 - Nishiki Market, Nara Deer Park, Namba (Den Den Town and Dotonburi)
Sun, Aug. 23 - Osaka Castle, Shitennoji Temple, Suntory Museum
Mon, Aug. 24 - Umeda Sky Garden, Hep Five, Daimaru

I split my 5 days of running around Kyoto and Osaka onto two pages. Because of that reason, my two pages have about 100 pics each. ^^; I advise clicking on a page, and waiting for it to load completely before browsing. ^^; I tried to include alot of the sights I have seen as well as any things I found interesting. I took about 500 pics every day, hence the pics overload.

back to Ghibli-land...and sweets-land

I met up with fighter and we headed to the Ghibli Museum. It was her first time so I took a tourguide-type role by leading her around and pointing out some details. ^.^ lol This is my 4th time there...I totally should become a tourguide. 'To your left, you'll see a Totoro and down here, we have Kodama....' lol Even so, I always find something new. I mentioned last time, I found a plant near the entrance. One had Howl's castle from Howl's Moving Castle. I missed the other one and got it this time. ^-^

Oooo...it's the bathhouse from Spirited Away. ^.^ Even though I've been there so many times, I always discover new things that I didn't notice before. I also found that some changes were made to the exhibit. Some sketches on the walls were definitely new and not there before. Sugoi.... The Ghibli short that we watched was Koro's Big Day Out. It was about Koro, a little puppy who went out to explore the neighborhood.... Predictable plot, but cute all the same. ^.^

After running about, we decided to head to Kichijoji. First, we caught sight of this butterfly that was fluttering behind a card playing street performer....

Kirei desu ne? ^.^ Our decision to head to Kichijoji was to go to Sweets^2, the sweets tabehodai place. Mmmm...there were some new items there as well, my fav being chicken nuggets. They were just out of the kitchen and were the best! *drools in memory* And of course, my other fav is the chocolate fountain for chocolate fondue. ^.^

We had alot of fun dipping marshmellows and pretzels into the chocolate. <3 I realized that the pizza that were made there are actually cooked in a brick oven with fire. o.O My ex-coworker, KC would love to know that since he practically studies pizza. ^.^ We digested our meal at Bookoff over BL manga.

Fighter will be coming over and sleeping tomorrow which will give us an opportunity to finish watching Gundam 00. ^.^

Gundam wedding FTW! and photo

Remember when I mentioned that Yahoo had an auction for a pic with the Gundam? Well, Fighter mentioned to me that it ended and some lucky person is paying 2.3 million for the picture. o.O Another lucky couple just had their wedding in front of the Gundam. My only comment about the wedding is...why isn't the bride cosplaying as well? That's not fair! lol

Sex Pistols trailer

The anime for Sex Pistols was announced some time ago and now we have info that it'll be an OVA. 2 episodes have been confirmed and it looks fantastic. *drools* I can't wait to see it! I hope there will be more then 2 episodes...but no idea. Definitely, the storyline cannot possibly fit in 2 episodes. And since it'll be an OVA, I hope for more detailed action. ^.^ Type of 'action'...well...you know. ^^;

back in Tokyo, back to reality

I came to Tokyo this morning at close to 8am. I have been working on my thoughts and doings in Kansai as well as sorting through pictures. I have been very trigger happy this time around and have 500 pics every day. ^^; The most surprising thing upon my return, is that my Japanese roomie have moved out already. She was planning to leave the end of the month anyway, and I suppose living here by herself wasn't very nice so she moved out early. Kinda weird here by myself too...but we'll see how it goes. I don't mind having the apartment to myself. ^^;

These last couple of days have been kinda thinking heavy for me...even though I'm on 'vacation' in Osaka. I'll share those thoughts when I'm ready. <.<

free hotel internet is nice

...not having a cord for my laptop is not. My laptop battery officially died last night *holds a memorial service for poor laptop* so I'm utilizing the wonderful free computer services in the business center of the hotel. But let's not waste time on the computer, ne? I'm running through what I usually do on the comp...except for visiting my yaoi forum since there are random kids behind me. ^^;

Osaka-lite

Compared to the heavy walking to various attractions in Kyoto, my tour thus far in Osaka has been a light one. There aren't that many things to see (or that I want to see) so I can relax a bit. Today has been the first day in my Kansai tour that I haven't been sweating buckets...though it could be that the weather was moderately warm (and not blazing hot) and it did drizzle every once in awhile. Tomorrow will be my last day here and I'll be heading out with the midnight bus back to Tokyo. Not going to waste my evening by writing my Kansai tour now...gonna watch more anime in my cable upstairs! Got priorities too.... ^_^

of BS2 and NHKs

I never explained this but you can probably deduce easily. Since I'm watching hotel tv, they have some cable channels like BS2 which shows a ton of the new anime. I'm watching alot of regular channel stuff too. I caught Cross Game some time this morning (or was it last night?) along with Pretty Cure. I also saw Kyou Kara Maoh yesterday which made me awwww alot. Yuri is sooo cute sometimes...or all the time. ^-^ Alas, I of course missed today's episode of FMA. Watching the subs when I return to NY. I assume it'll be out by tuesday. ^^; Ja ne!

city hopping as is anime

Today, I left Kyoto and headed to Nara where I spent a few hours being chased by deer (more info in future updates.) That activity done, I headed to Osaka. Sitting in my hotel now, watching Macross Frontier. Before, Valkyrie Chronicles was aired which ended on a cliffhanger...which means even though I don't really follow the series, I will have to watch the next episode. ^^; I also saw a bit of that green haired girl with the creature anime. Saw another anime this morning which I can't seem to pinpoint...something about 3 girls per team fighting in skin tight one piece thingees.... lol ^^; I'll look it up when I have more battery.

Going off on a tangent, but have little choice since my batteries are dictating my words so I can't edit. More exploring tomorrow! *eats ice cream*

a bit more walking

Today, I hit a few more places...although I missed Nishiki market altogether. Due to my typing limit on the comp, I won't be writing much about where I have been. ^^; Not yet anyway.... Tomorrow, I will finish up my morning in Kyoto and head to Osaka with a brief detour at Nara. For now, let's see what's on the tv!

Kyoto tv

There was a Tytania marathon last night...at least I thought it was a marathon since they show 3 episodes and I fell asleep. ^-^ There was also this show where they viewed the most viewed youtube clips and comments. It started with a kitty segment and I loled alot. ^.^ This morning, there was the talk show, the 'Takarazuka Cafe' something. ?.? Time? Stop? Anyway, they show clips from the show and the guest was one of the cast. I don't know who...maybe the one who played Elizabeth? The clips was from that show. Now I'm watching a ballet...a comedic Spanish love story. I think Don Quixote is in it. There is a play within the play with the littles kids miming the two lovebirds. Kawaii.... Now I will enjoy the rest of the ballet with my instant noodles dinner. ^-^

B block competition

Today was the speech contest that 5 of my students have been preparing so earnestly for. Over 30 schools is in the Saitama prefecture and the competition is split up into A, B and C blocks. The competition was fierced, but 4 out of my 5 students were placed! *dances around the room* There were 6 rankings. My 1st year students (one who lived for some time in Ireland so spoke Irish english) got 6th place, my 2nd year student got 4th place and one of my 3rd year students got 4th place. I'm really proud of them. *grins widely* My other 3rd year student didn't win anything, which surprised me since she was one of the strongest speakers. I think it's because my school already won in that division, so they didn't pick both. ^^;

This is only the beginning. Since my students won, they can go into the next prefectural competition...which is beginning of September. More practice during the start of school! Ganbarre!

I still need to finish packing which I will do after I eat since I need to eat. ^.^ But first is cooking dinner.... *runs off to the kitchen*

of stars and memories

07 Ghost makes me smile. ^__^ One thing I need to say about Teito though...is that he needs to stop falling out of things into the air. ^^; First episode one, he seems to be falling from clips, airships, balconys...into Frau's arms no less, but there has to be another way for them to get together besides that. But I'm digressing....

I was hoping to see more of the new characters of the previous episode, but there wasn't any room in this action packed episode. I don't know where to start...I know, the BL hints! Comaderie among the enemies is not unheard of. Haruse's self sacrifice (or attempt thereof) did not go unseen by Kuroyuri-sama. Aya-tan's seemingly second-in-command faces against Frau. (I'm really starting to wonder...who is top in that relationship? He smiles so much and Ayanami doesn't...so I guess Ayanami is topping? lol) But most of all, love and the Eye surrounds Teito. Teito becomes angry when he is saved by Frau (yet again) prompting my fav line of the episode. Frau: I know what's important. And it's not the Eye. *hugs Teito* Too much spoiler? Sorry...but that moment is the best! Well one of the best.... (I think I'm high on something...pardon my spazziness.)

The latter half of the episode is more calm. Teito discovers himself a bit more via his memories and then he has a 'moment' with Frau. Relationships are advancing everywhere. Frau is acquainted with a plant while Teito and Hakuren reaches 3rd base. (1st is not killing each other, 2nd is actually talking to each other normally and 3rd would be...where they're at now. Something called friendship. Friendship bases not the other kind. ^.^)

I have 3 additional things to say about this epsiode. First, I hope they come out with a song track of Teito singing that song because I would love a raw version of it (no instrumentals, just him singing acapella.) Second, 'sunniest place in the garden'? Under a tree it's not! Frau is not a gardener obviously since no idiot would plant a plant (that will grow into a tree) where the roots of another tree already is.... <.<; Third, Teito and Hakuren makes a boo-boo by pissing off the one person they shouldn't..... lol Ganbatte, Teito!

preparing for the south

Today was the last practice day for my students since tomorrow is when the competition will be held. I had time after all the practice sessions so I could play the piano. *happy sigh* I took an Ikebekuro detour before heading home and ended up buying an FMA postcard. ^^; I started packing but will have to finish tomorrow after I get back from school. The reason isn't because it's getting late...it's because I did my laundry so everything is wet. Gotta stop washing before I head out somewhere. ^^; Bringing my laptop with me to Kyoto since my hotels all have internet connection so yay!

My students worked really hard so wish them luck!

a drunken interlude

Episode 20 of Pandora Hearts opens Oz inquiring about the piano piece which is reminiscent of his music box-watch. Eliot responds but their convo is cut short by Gilbert breaking into their conversations. Next part of the story quickly comes in with Alice admiting that she got to 2nd base with Oz. (1st is holding hands, 2nd is kissing, 3rd is...um...touching and home is...um...ano...I digress. ^^; *runs away*) Then everyone gets drunk and all hell break loose in a funny way. If an episode of this series was counted as a filler, this would be it. However, it is an interesting filler, quite emotional at times and is filled with fanservice for the guys and for the girls. BL fans rejoice! Even B. Rabbit thinks there is something more going on between Gilbert and Oz. With Gilbert so naturally pulling Oz towards him...that motion so tender and holding him so sweetly.... Awww....

The plotdriven portion of the episode comes at the end as it had in the beginning. Eliot seems as much tied to Gilbert's past as he was. To what extent, we don't know. The Nightray family and Bezarius shouldn't be enemies when so many of their members are tied together.

Fav moments? Gilbert and Alice fighting with each other, but not really. lol Gilbert pulling Oz close. Awwwww.... And Gilbert lapsing into his past, grabbing onto Oz.... Gilbert: I want to tell you something.... Me: I love you? Wanna hold you? Sleep with you? Do naughty things to you? *falls*

BTW, if you haven't seen it already, check out the omake clip from the first Pandora Hearts dvd. It has Gilbert in a skirt, Oz in a skirt as well as other humorous antics. I love the creator of Pandora Hearts. They know what the fans want and gives it to them. ^.^

Con report for Summer Comiket 2009!

    [ + ] Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16

I packed all the info from the last two days into one con report. The link is not as pic heavy as the WCS ones since all cosplays are in a separate gallery. ^.^ My thoughts about the con are inside though there aren't that much to think about. There IS alot to read since lots of good things happened and I met many amazing people. BTW, we didn't go to the professional side of the con. The doujinshi side was interesting enough. ^.^

Gallery has been uploaded to the usual page so check it out. Again, the pictures are not sorted since there really is such a wide variety of pics that sorting them would not make any sense. BTW, there aren't as many pics as before but I chose the best out of my collection. Enjoy! ^.^

US Ponyo song...not so Ponyo-like

The youtube clip under the link explains it best: the new Ponyo song for US release of the movie does not fit with the movie at all. I do agree with some of the comments and I reject some others. As many of you know already, I do support and even like the Disney dubs of Ghibli movies. Translations are faulty for certain movies (The Cat Returns most of all, some of Whisper of the Heart) but we also have near perfect translation like Spirited Away. I don't know about the translations yet for Ponyo since I haven't seen it, but I'm pretty sure the US voices are fine since Disney dubs are usually on the good side.

Disney songs in Ghibli movies have also been pretty good. The only one that comes to mind is Kiki's Delivery Service which had completely new music to the OP and ED and even in the middle. 'Soaring' and the other song were quite catchy and matched the movie well. This new song for Ponyo...not so much. Europop, compressed voices? Not really matching with the small town feel. I agree with the comments that Disney is milking their tween stars for all their worth and adding another song to an already big name movie is sure to bring in more profit. I wish they did it another way, but it doesn't tear away from the movie itself. Its just distracting. Glad to hear it is only a song that they transitioned to at the end. From what I understand, they end with the original song and move to this one later on in the credits.

Song in itself, not too bad. Terrible, but catchy in it's own way. They took the melody from the original and made it their own. Eurotrance is something I do like but the voices are slightly agitating if not annoying. Lyrics...are inane though. 'Munch, munch, hug and kiss' are something I would not want to sing at karaoke (though I do sing Engrish like 'mix their bits' from the song 'Let Me Hear'. ^^;) I do like to give US original songs for anime a chance since some nice ones do come out from the mix. This one won't make it into my mp3 player though.

more YYH? Yay!

Thanks to animemiz for the link. Along with the Yu Yu Hakusho bluray dvds that were announced this weekend, there will be a 'picture drama' extra that takes place after the series. Sugoi! Original cast returns to make this visual drama. Not anime, but still a new story. I truly hope someone rips it from the dvd so we can see and I hope Funimation will license it and release it as some special. Onegaishimasu! It's awesome to see cast reunions for anime revivals. It'll be awesome to hear Megumi Ogata's Kurama voice again. *fangirls*

*vomits*

After watching Fullmetal Alchemist newest episode on tv today, you'll know why this is title of the subject. Not that it makes me want to vomit, but more about what Ed does.... This manga-based episode was wonderfully done. The only part they changed that I wish they added was when Ed meets HIM, HE commented about how Ed had his hair like HIM...in a ponytail. And then Ed would scowl and put his hair in a braid. ^.^ That was a humorous point in the manga. Actually, the anime episode was actually very serious. They kept the humorous part of Ed's reaction to Al upon his return. ^.^ This episode is more of a transition to what will be coming up next. Winry's reaction to it all sums it up best. Ed is growing up. ^.^

more manga for Comiket

After reading over some manga, I picked out the ones I want for the mangaka to sign. I went to Bookoff to buy one and headed to Ikebekuro to buy the rest. I got 2 from Mandarake and 1 more from K-books 1. No words on the exact manga yet since who I meet will be a surprise for all. ^-^ I also bought a Gundam 00 poster from K-books 3 before heading to meet fighter and kumi-kun.

Our meeting was just to dine at Milky Way. I ordered the mochi thing everyone had before and the mochi was soooo chewy and delicious. Our conversations ranged from religion to fanfiction and Japanese phrases that we can say at Comiket. 'I like your manga.' 'Is this the line for something-sensei.' and 'Will you marry me?' as well as 'I want to have your babies.' lol

After dinner we headed to the train station where we were greeted by this billboard. I gave a short squeak before we all pulled out cameras.

Fighter is staying over tonight so we did a bit of grocery shopping before heading to my apartment. Tomorrow is Comiket! Still so much to do! *runs around the room*

Where does Japan get all their money to make otaku dreams come true? The only thing that the US seems to make is Batmobiles or other vehicles from movies come to life...but I wonder if they'll make an R2D2 or some android from Star Wars? Make a woobie? Anyway, Japan has reached another level in GiTs-dom with Tachikomas that you can ride in. Albiet, you need to be under 60 kg in order to ride in this thing which means I need to trim down as well. ^^; The other mini-Tachikoma under the link that is actually blue and speaks like one is adorable. Forget about riding in one, I want one as a pet! I think I need to speak Japanese though. The languages add-on is probably not created yet but I'm sure they're getting to it soon! We went over the Comiket catalogue and noted our the mangakas and tables we wanted to see.

We headed to karaoke at the next station since it was cheaper there: Shinjuku is almost double the price. <.< We sang for two hours with our highlighed songs including 'Moonlight Densetsu', 'Brand New World' by Itou Yuna, 'Let Me Hear' and even 'Sakura' which Fighter sang. brotherly love x2!!!

I cannot help but put my two 'thoughts on the episode' together since I'm almost certain the voice of the new character in 07 Ghost is none other then Romi Paku, the seiyuu of Edward Elric of FMA. And not just that, seems like she is in the brotherly role again. ^.^ But first, 07 Ghost....

bonds

The spoileriffic opening is awesome enough (since seeing Castor in action and getting the bad guys is always good,) but we immediately meet two new characters. I thought they were the intruders at first since the taller one had black hair and the shorter one has pink...but I guess it's just the character designer recycling character molds again. ^.^ Liam (the pink haired one) calls the taller one 'nii-san'. And the 'nii-san' is voiced by the talented Romi...or so I believe since I can't find her in the credits yet. ^.^ As a brother, he seems more responsible, level headed and the younger one seems a bit more naive. As for the love...within 5 minutes of the show, we have a confirmation of their 'bond' with these lines.

Tall dude: Remember, we've got the bishop's exams ahead of us. Examinees must fight in groups of two. They'll be testing the strength of our bond.
Liam: But I love you even without having to pray!
Tall dude: I know, Liam. That's why we're going to pray that our bonds never break.
    Me: *falls over*

And while they're contemplating their love for each other, there are other people in the room praying for their bonds as well...a different kind perhaps? lol Since this might as well be BL, I think we're all talking about same one: the bonds of love. ^___^ Thinking a bit, that means Hakuren and Teito's bonds will also be tested...I guess I'll have to be rooting for their pairing afterall. ^^; I won't give too much else in this episode, but watch for another BL moment with Haruse and Kuroyuri-sama as well as Hakuren and Teito. *fangirls* I looove those moments. ^.^ Oh, and another awesome moment between Teito and Frau. This episode is just BL-tastic!

And for those who were doubting Kuroyuri-sama's gender, Castor called him 'shonen' so he is a boy! *fangirls some more*

cores

In actuality, episode 19 of Fullmetal Alchemist has little to do with Ed and more to do with Roy and his crew. As I mentioned before, this story is one of my favs and one that I hate as well due to what happens to Havoc. The mixture of humor is surprising, but there is less of it to appropriate the seriousness of this episode. This is also the episode where Riza shows more emotions then usual concerning Roy. Her stoicness is broken as she faces the horrifying half truths.... No more details from me! This episode is a wonderful rendition of the manga and seeing it continue this way is awesome in itself.

Three words though: Love Roy's abs. *faints*

preparing for Comiket shopping

I went to the school today to meet a few students and headed to Ikebekuro afterwards for some 'Comiket shopping'. Or shopping in general. I picked up 4 autograph boards in case I can't choose a manga for them to sign. Only if...though I have plans for one of them already. ^.^ At K-books 3, I picked up a Yu Yu Hakusho postcard book and a Fullmetal Alchemist paper card case for the deck of cards. Remember some time ago, I bought a deck of FMA playing cards that came with one of the limited edition manga? Well, the cards didn't come in an actual case but a cardboard folder-type-thing. I was always wondering why there wasn't a case and turns out, the case itself was an extra that probably came with the Gangan mags. Happy to find it at K-books...though I don't have my cards with me to put it in.

more earthquakes...no typhoon

Around 5am, I was awakened by a bit of shaking, the sun and my French roomie's surprise voice. The things in my room were swaying a bit from the sudden earthquake, but everything was fine and I went back to sleep. ^^; I don't know the scale for this earthquake, but it seemed a bit higher then the one on sunday. This morning, I prepared myself for a typhoon (since there were all these warnings) but it's midnight already and there is no rain. Not that I'm complaining....

Yokohama love

I was very trigger happy today with my camera so there are tons of pic under this link. We went to Yokohama, saw some nice cars, rode the ferris wheel, played with sand and hit Chinatown. We relived moments from Loveless and had tons of fun. ^-^

Gundam madness

I love Gundam and everything, but this is >.<. A 29 year old guy was about to kill himself when his mother threw out some of his Gundam models. He ended up dousing himself with kerosene, but jumped out the last moment and his house burned down instead. Japanator insanity found here. Animemiz has shared some of her 'my mother threw out my stuff' experience before and I'm sure many other Japanime fans have felt the pressure from parents concerning our avid collections may it be figures, models, manga, dvds and more. We handle it all in our own way, but this really questions the sanity of this collector. With this and the high suicide rate in Japan, maybe ppl here are a little too eager to die.... <.<

My father has gotten angry before and thrown all my manga into a (clean) garbage bag. I was pissed off since some of my manga got bent due to that incident. As you surmise, I got my manga back by the end of the argument. Even so, my parents have never thrown away my things. Being an only child, what has known to be my things have been established really early on and my parents do not dare to touch them nor even considered throwing them out. Of course, there are veiled threats and jokes thrown about, but that is all they are.

I keep track of my things and will be devastated if anything is lost. Pouring kerosene and jumping into a fire? Maybe I'm not as avid a Gundam fan as he is for that. <.<

train anime love

They had a manga and now an anime. The stops of the Chuo line in Tokyo are bishies and they're all train operators. Miracle Train ~Ooedo-sen he Youkoso~ is now an anime. The cast list is named and there are lots of star seiyuu to voice the bishounen of the train. There are 6 guys and I have 5 of 6 promo postcards. Just missing Roppongi, the main character. ^^; Can't wait to catch this anime!

a bit of shaking

Backtracking a bit, yesterday, the crew and I hit Harajuku and Shibuya for a bit of shopping. We didn't do much besides see a few stores (Bookoff in Shibuya) and eat dinner. We felt the earthquake hit mid-dinner and the reports say it's over 6 points on the Richter scale. Animemiz informed me that Sendai was hit more strongly, but Tokyo is fine. No need to worry. ^-^

CONDOMS!!!!

EDIT: Oh yeah, how could I forget? We also visited Condomania yesterday...a condom store filled with condoms. Of course! ^^; There were soooo many condoms of various types, sizes, novelties such as candy condoms (I don't know why anyone would wear one or how it works) and even finger puppets (yeah, I have no clue.) <.<; The most amusing one I think someone would buy for a guy is this giant condom. How big? Well, the width of it is about the size if you made a circle with your thumb and your pointing finger. (I'm estimating of course, but considering the readers of my blog, it's about that size. ^.^) Then we have tiny condoms the size of your pinky. ^^; The big one though may make guys feel very proud to receive such a thing...or very inadequate.

Most impractical item? Condom in a glass tube. Glass saids 'Break glass during an emergency' (or something to that extent.) Now think of it: broken glass around a condom? That's an accident waiting to happen. Twofold. Shards stuck in the rubber? Ouch. Making holes? Babies in 9 months time. >.<

Lolitaland

Today we returned to Harajuku since we didn't get chance to hit the stores we wanted to...the Lolita ones along Takeshita dori. We started with Bodyline that had some of the less expensive Lolita dresses. There, fighter and I fell in love with the same walolita dress. They had 2 left (one on the mannequin) and both was a size M. >.< Fighter is smaller, skinner then I and she bought a size M dress from there before. Logically speaking, I couldn't possibly fit into it. But I was in love anyway. She suggested that she would buy the dress first, let me try it on and we'll see (since there was no trying on at the store.) Agreed, she bought the outfit and we continued shopping until we hit the H&M for the fitting room.

The stores we hit were all various lolita styled. Lots of himegyaru since that is kumi's style and even a Takarazuka store with sparkly outfits. *.* The other stores were all very pricy (since the brand of lolita sets the prices) and we drooled over the pretty outfits. At H&M, I came to the verdict. It fit. O.O We returned to Bodyline and I bought the dress off the mannequin for fighter.

There is also a large black bow in the back. It comes with a headband and a collar...which I can also use as a headband. The skirt and inner kimono-styled shirt fit with no problem. The corset is the main problem since it was very tight. It fit, but I will fear slightly of it ripping. I will be wearing it to Comiket this weekend along with fighter, but I will definitely adjust it when I return to NY. It just means I can't get bigger because if I do, I wil not be able to wear it. My first Lolita outfit! For those who may wonder, it's was 4999 yen. *faints* It's not as pricy as the 20000 yen of Mana's Moi-meme-Moitie labels but it was definitely not in my budget. An amazing outfit just the same. (Arigato to Diana-chan and her mother since it was with her red envelope money that I bought the dress. ^.^)

We went to Shinjuku where we hit 0101 One which is the Lolita mall that we went to before. Soooo many dresses that were waaaay pricy. The store that sold Eva stuff has now changed to Nitro+CHiRAL theme with Togainu no Chi and Lamento things. The visual kei Hello Kitty store on the first floor of the mall even had BL manga for sale. ^^; We also went to Closet Child which is a major used Lolita fashion store. Used doesn't mean that it's cheaper. <.<

just wild beat...

...communication! *singing* Since fighter and I bought the dress that was definitely NOT in our budget, we agreed on conbini food for dinner. We bought our food and headed to Big Echo karaoke to eat and sing. It was fun though looking for Sailor Moon songs was actually kinda hard. ^^; Ended up with 'Moonlight Destiny' instead of 'Moonlight Densetsu'. lol We sang some 80s music, some musicals and of course a mixture of anime titles. I sang my usual 'Every Heart' along with 'Chiisaki Mono'. Maybe the more I sing, the better I'll be. ^-^

Tomorrow, we're meeting at 11:30am at Shibuya so we can head to Yokohama. Yay!

hanabi!

I met with fighter and kumi-kun tonight for hanabi watching over Tokyo bay. It was beautiful. But first, we were SURROUNDED by yukatas...which makes me wish I wore mine. But it was still pretty hot so I guess I'm glad that I didn't.... ^^; One thing we need to remember is prepare like the Japanese. There were yakisoba and takoyaki stands all along the loooong walk to the viewing area. Everyone else were buying them but we didn't think to stop and pick up food until we got to where we wanted to be. Of course, there were only booth selling food and the line stretch all along the middle of the area...which was very long. Next time, we must buy food and bring it there! ^.^

The fireworks started promptly at 7pm and lasted until past 8pm. There were the usual bursts and sparkles, but shapes filled the sky as well. Swirls, hearts, smiley faces, open smiley faces and even the iconic Mickey Mouse ears and round face filled the sky. Our fav? Neko! We have the recognizable kitty face, ears and whiskers. With the light bay breeze in our faces and the Rainbow Bridge (and the ferris wheel) as the backdrop for the beautiful sky show, it was a fantastic experience.

We stopped by a mall to eat dinner (katsudon soba set for me! ^.^) before we headed to the subyway. Kumi went to one station while fighter and I headed to another. The station we originally arrived in was closed so we ended up walking to the next station. It was a looooong walk. We ended up near Ginza and actually passed by the Kabukiza Theater.

Wow...if only I could afford to see performances there.... O.O It was a wonderful evening. Albiet tiring but wonderful just the same. ^.^

running away

Kyaaaa...I'm speechless over this recent episode of Pandora Hearts. This episode plot aside, Oz reminds me a bit of Misaki. I was rewatching Junjou Romantica the second season why Misaki is confronted by Usami's father.... The hurtful words that Misaki has to hold onto by himself. It's got to be one of the saddest feelings around. Oz is feeling the same. Taking on the burden on by himself. Eliot is right of course since holding on to your burden, sacrificing yourself would only lead to sadness of those left behind. But in such cases, its hard to find a middle ground. If you share your pain, someone may understand, but the person may become hurt as well...but I digress.

On a lighter note, I've fallen for the Jack and Glen pairing...though I'm not sure who could be bottom yet...Jack most likely. ^.^ Seems that Lotti is jealous of that pairing as well. 'Who are you to Glen?' lol Something they made together...a beautiful piece of work. On one side, Alice loves Jack...on the other side, Jack loves Glen. Do you think this is why the Tragedy occured? Kill your obstacle? Pearl-chan may be correct in assuming there may be a similar feeling in Alice (of this time,) Oz and Gil. I don't like Lotti so a threesome will not work for that relationship. For Oz and Gil...that is another story. Seems that B Rabbit is discovering the feelings in the next episode...maybe. ^.^

cosplay drama...business side

Anna who takes professional cosplay pics and have been on the convention scene for a loooong time have wrote about the issues with WCS on her lj. She has covered WCS as press, advisor and supporter of Team USA for some time already. I have given a bit of an overview to the issues in my con report. It is interesting to hear it from the press side. My thoughts are still the same...disappointment mixed with hope that the Japanese organizers would improve in some way. As I discussed with iceblueaya's friend (who is a cosplay celeb herself on the east coast,) there are alot of problems with WCS as a competition. Our hope is that there would be improvement next year. Besides what I wrote before, some of the what I discussed with iceblueaya's friend....

Problems this year...the Japanese teams in the prelims were determined via online voting. O.o At the competition, audience appluading type was done. Definitely unfair since the rest of the world was basing their representatives on craftsmanship and performance. The applause sounds the same to me and there was a screen with the numbers going up and just stopped at some number which I thought was very arbitrary.

Problems every year...the unfairness of the timing of the prelim. Some had time to prepare for new cosplays and new skits...tohers have no time. It definitely isn't fair and it could be used as both an advantage or disadvantage to the teams. Teams like France could not come up with new routines and cosplays since their preliminaries were in July.

Unfair judgment all around. The judging at the prelimins were bias and as I mentioned in my con report, perhaps other countries should have gotten acknowledgement. *sigh* WCS is a business venture and it has been taken as one. Anna makes an interesting closing statement in her post. Taking WCS as it is...a wonderful experience once you're in, but the judging side is not fair so that should be anticipated.

My own thoughts...why must more cosplay drama come from outer sources? We have enough cosplay drama coming from cosplayers. >.<

Con report for World Cosplay Summit 2009!

    [ + ] Pre-con: Friday, July 31

    [ + ] Cosplay Parade: Saturday, August 1 - Aoyagi Ritsuka

    [ + ] WCS Championship: Sunday, August 2

You guys have waited long enough so here is my vid clip-ful and picture-ful report on the biggest international cosplay gathering in Japan...the World Cosplay Summit! Please be warned that the Sunday page has close to 50 pics...so loading will take some time. ^^; The saturday page isn't that much better. There are cosplay pics in those pages, but mostly of the competitors and not of random cosplayers. I dumped all the cosplay pics I took into a gallery on my viable page and only separated them by the day and event. I may try to place them in some order at some point in time, but we'll see how it goes. (I haven't done much work on that besides sorting pics since I still need to sort them into piles and send them off to 3 groups of people! <.<)

Another reason behind not sorting them out (yet) is that Japan has such a wide variety of cosplays. True, there are some series that we may see more of (like Naruto, Vocaloid, Reborn,) but in truth, the dominating series isn't as apparent as in the States where a single series will take up 1/4 of the con cosplays. Here, there are sooo many cosplays from various series that sorting them out would be to recognize all of them and alphabetize them...but my recognition skills are not that good to include all the latest series yet. ^^; Or even encompass everything else in the past.

My report maybe a bit tl;dr, but I hope you'll be able to find what you like in them. ^.^ Enjoy!

a walk around Shinjuku...

I didn't get to meet up with fighter and kumi until late in the evening yesterday (since I was busy working on the report) but I was able to have dinner with them. We went to an udon place where you can choose your tempura (or onigiri if you chose) and from several types of udon. I chose one with the runny egg...since I love that kind of egg. Oishi!

After dinner, we had to look for a manga cafe since kumi-kun forgot the address of the bars that she want to hit in Shinjuku 2-chome. Yes, our plans for the evening was purusing the gay nightlife in Tokyo. ^.^ We actually found one at the edge of Kabukicho and I waited at the door as they went in. FYI, the manga cafes in Tokyo include cubicles for internt where you can choose the size, whether or not you want a bed (since ppl sometimes sleep there) and other amenities. 200 yen usually for half an hour of typical usage. ^.^ Addresses in hand, we headed off on our gay journey.

a walk around Shinjuku...2-chome...

We chose some popular hotspots that cater or are more acceptable to foreigners. Since kumi is bi, our focus tonight are the lesbian bars. Our first stop was Tara's Bar Kinswoman which we found with some difficulty. The decor was reddish with a curvy bar. My companions ordered alcoholic drinks while I stuck with orange juice. Some of the decor came from the series 'The L Word' and there was even a photograph of the barmistress with her friends in the same naked pileup as is the main cover of the series. Very tasteful of course. ^.^ We chatted for a loooong while at the bar and even took some pictures (just of us and one of the owner..nothing sexual ^^;) before we left.

The next stop was Iyan which is diagonally across from Kinswoman. This was a slightly smaller bar then the one before with the barmistress reminding me of the Takarazuka with her short hair with small cap and boyish vest and shirt. We continued our chat there although we didn't stay as long since the other patrons smoked a bit too closely then the other bars so the fumes made our eyes water. In any case, all of us needed to catch the last train back home.

It was a fun evening and with the various Shinjuku-ites in yukatas (from a festival at the Meji Shrine I believe) there were many interesting sight to take in. My fav 'sight'? Two guys in yukatas passed us...I couldn't help but awww along with fighter and kumi. ^.^ We left the people dancing on the streets and entered the train station.

Squenix vs. Ivy lawsuit comes to fruition

In March 2007, a K-pop singer, Ivy made a music video for her song 'Sonata of Temptation.' The action sequences of the PV are made move for move of Tifa and Loz's fight scene in FFVII:AC. Permission from Square Enix was not granted for the vid hencing in a lawsuit. (My 3/26/07 post has the details of the drama that went down upon this issue.) We finally have the results of that lawsuit that was made in 2007...$326,400 USD to Square Enix. It's no surprise that they won since the violation of copyrights was soooo apparent. It still boggles the mind that the music company thought they could make a PV like that WITHOUT any persmission.... <.<;

BTW, I still like the song and will be moving it back into my mp4 player. ^-^

Takarazuka morning

I went with fighter and kumi to the Takarazuka theater today in hopes to get the tickets to see 'Elizabeth'. Alas, the staff was able to inform the latter half of the line that the 40 some balcony seats and 40 some standing room would be sold by the time we got to the front. Still, we stayed in place with forlorn hopes as well as be a part of the ritual of Takarazuka fans. Each member of the cast is a celebrity and to reflect that status is their fanclub. Each fanclub has their own shirt/scarf (that actually changes depending on the show.) For example, Haruka fanclub may have black shirts. Aoki are blue t-shirts. There are plaid orange shirts, green scarves and the list goes on. They gather at one point and near the theater and then file in along the sidewalk.

As much of Japanese society is, there are unspoken rules for fans and fanclub members. Non-fanclub members cannot directly give gifts to the cast. They can give their gift to the fanclub members. The fanclub members stand in the front *points to above pic* with the non-fanclub members at the back. The routine is this: the celebrity will drive/walk up to their fanclub, greet or not greet the fanclub members and pick up their gifts. If they have too much, they can hand their gift off to who I assume is their assistant. (I hear it's sometimes the person who drives them to the theater.) No touching, no taking pictures with the stars, no non-fanclub fan can stand in front of the line created by fanclub ppl, the rules go on and on. They even stand and sit on cue. On both sides of the streets, the fanclubs wait. Once they greet their star, they file out and another group comes to greet another. How they know who is coming, how they know when to sit and stand...I do not know. But it is very organized. It really is interesting to watch.

Another interesting thing to note are the stars themselves. They wear hats, barretts and/or sunglasses. As everyone knows, Takarazuka are an all female troupe where girls play both female and male parts. The celebs appear in boyish suits, usually walking with head down. Sometimes its difficult to tell who is who, but I'm sure the fans have them all figured out. With their hair cut short to suit their roles, it's no small wonder to see the beautiful features that classifies them in those roles.

This occurs at least twice a day...sometimes more depending on how many shows there are. The fanclubs come in the morning before the show and after. Such dedication. I hear JE fanclubs are not much different in dedication and number of unspoken rules.

sleepy afternoon

After waiting X number of hours to be rejected and getting a firsthand experience of joining in the organized mob of fanclub greeters, fighter, kumi and I decided to go look for lunch. (BTW, fighter and I spent some time studying the various fanclub clothing in order to decide which one we would join. The black shirt ones seem nice.... ^.^) After buying something at a convenience store, we met up with two German girls who were major Takarazuka fans. We went to Hibiya park where we sat on the benches to eat. Fighter left early due to schoolwork and I took a nap on the bench as kumi (the main Takazuka fan) chatted with the others. Kumi-kun and I sat around the park for awhile, went to eat ice cream at Marvelous Cream (a Cold Stone look-alike) as well as returned to gaze at the gathering fanclubs at the theater. We decided to call it a day and leave since kumi is planning to take the first train out to Hibiya to try to get tickets tomorrow. I wish her the best of luck. I would join her, but the last couple of days of little sleep is taking it's toll on me. ^^;

the one who loves him...

I really like ep. 18 of 07 Ghost. Besides the usual throng of BL hints that really don't need to be pointed out (since it's so obvious and screams of something more, ^.^) the appearance of the Eye and the other two bishops make the story a bit more interesting. Teito taking hold of the situation finally places him in an active role...and his concern for Frau and Bastion shows how much he acknowledges Frau is like himself. Lost...needing support. (I guess BastionxFrau is also a nice pairing...to a point. Perhaps Bastion is the one who 'taught' Frau? ^.^) There is something going on between Frau and the Eye of Mikahail...and I'm not sure I like it. But the suspense gives the series more depth. Through it all, my fav moments are one concerning Frau's past. I wonder what my 3 dreams are....

unveiling mysteries

As mentioned in last week's episode of Fullmetal Alchemist, Roy takes on a more active role in the next few episodes. But first, we have Ed seeing the truth behind the plot going on in the background. The plan is so perfectly executed that I can't help but give credit to Roy's subordinates since the trust they display is something he can count on. Can't say much for him using Barry...but he didn't have much choice there. ^^; Ed also finds out something on his journey to the east...good news and bad. But above all, he acknowledges the support of everyone around him.

The next episode is one I like and hate at the same time. It's a strong episode in all aspects, it's just that I hate what happens to Havoc. In the manga, it doesn't show any change to the situation after this incident. Arakawa-sensei is one that is realistic in that respect. But definitely, the next episode will be a strong one....

school break

Today was another one of my few days at school in August. I won't need to go to school until the 12th. Definitely will enjoy my days off! I gave my speech contest students the chocolate that I bought from NY (except for one of them whom I gave daifuku from Nagoya since she didn't like peanuts.) The principal's secretary made goya tempura and another goya dish to serve. It's a summertime cuisine and I was wary of trying it since goya is the bitter melon of Japan. However, I was able to eat some and actually enjoy it. ^^V

pirates at Nakano Broadway

Fighter took kumi-kun to Nakano Broadway...mainly Mandarake today. I met them at 6pm. I bought 2 Yu Yu Hakusho shitajiki and an FMA doujinshi, 'Blue Flame'. Fighter confirmed that the doujinka, Idea will be there so I'm having her/them sign it. ^.^ We headed to kaiten sushi...the cheaper of the two in the area. Kumi is vegetarian so she mainly ate tamago sushi and even had natto sushi. ^.^ My fav is the salmon mixture below....

After dinner, we headed to Starbucks to chat. I had some printouts of our forum past games which we looked over and laughed about. Ah...memories. The title 'pirates' as my subject alludes to the game. ^.^ It was hilarious reading the papers and we stayed until the store closed. Tomorrow, we decided to go see if we're able to get tickets for takarazuka theater. Try being the operative word here. ^^; Even with no work, I'm waking up super early. Ganbarre!

WCS report delayed

I've actually have much of the stuff written up, but it won't be finished tonight since I haven't gotten my fill of sleep in awhile...and tonight won't be it. ^^; Thank you for your patience!

pushed to the limit

After running on low sleep the last few days, I really feel like I'm about to collapse...but I think I still have a bit more in me. ^^;

an evening with garcons

After work today, I headed to Ikebekuro to visit my old haven at K-books 3. Picked up a FMA mini-shitajiki and another Junjou Romantica card. Yay! ^.^ At 6pm at Mandarake, I met up with fighter...and kumi-kun! *hugs* Fighter took us to a butler cafe called B-Lily. Actually, it was a butler cafe with the girls dressed as butlers. ^-^ I ordered a type of cheese cake (but it was more like sponge cake) with hot cocoa. Fighter had ice cream and kumi-kun had apple pie.

The butlers there were soooo cute. To take a pic with or of each butler cost 500 yen. Yes, having two butlers in one shot cost 1000 yen. ^^; If you sit at the counter, a designated butler will come and converse with you. We sat at the tables so we could take in the eye candy. ^.^ Kumi-kun decided to take a pic with the butler. She sat on a chair with the butler behind her...one arm around her shoulder and the other holding her hand. Needless to say, fighter and I were silently squeeing over the moment. ^.^ We'll get our chance...just not today. The butler himself herself was happily surprised to be chosen and exclaimed over how cute kumi was. Awwww.... We're definitely going back there!

We headed to Animate to buy the Comiket catalogue. We divided up the price since we all needed info from it. So many mangaka to see.... ^.^ We also went to check out the merchandise...and fighter and I ended up buying two Libre manga each since Libre was having a special fair where we were able to get 2 'stickie pics' of various manga characters and 1 Yamane Ayano card. They had other cards like Minami Haruka-sensei...but I had to choose Yamane-sensei. ^.^ Afterwards, we decided to head to kumi-kun's hotel so that we could order drinks at the cafe below and talk. We talked about the yaoi site we frequent among MANY other things. Philosophy, movies, drinking, etc... It was nice to sit and speak to each other. At 11pm, fighter and I wished kumi a good night and headed off to the station. Tomorrow, I will be meeting them both at Nakano Broadway. The dinner for the evening is kaiten sushi. ^-^

anime on tv

Last night, I watched Kiki's Delivery Service on tv. They even had a special about Unicorn Gundam. This morning, I saw Gokujo!! Mecha Mote Iincho and caught the end to Kyou Kara Maoh. Just relaxing in my hotel room for now. ^.^

fanboys...and fangirls

lol Pandora Hearts is teasing us! We get a glimpse of the secret behind the locket, but the story in ep. 18 takes us down another path: Oz fanboying over a book he hasn't read in 10 years. lol Spoilers alert! For Oz anyway. ^.^ More masterxservants pairings in this one so be on the lookout for more squeeing on my part. Fangirling comes when a group of girls bump into Gilbert. Of course, who wouldn't fall for him? Does baka usagi fall for him as well? lol

The latter half the episode takes on a more serious turn giving us the question of self sacrifice. Something I never really thought about in that kind of light before. Thinking of the pain of others when the person who gives up falls away.... Nightray and Bezarius...the darkness and light of the world coming together. Though it seems that sometimes, Nightray are in the light while the heart of Oz Bezarius is in the dark.

I won't say much else, but the way this episode is insinuating, the watch that Oz carries around has something to do with the Nightrays. Pearl-chan's theory of the Tragedy of Sabrie is becoming more and more likely....
