Technical Requirements

I used the spotlight effect script on the home page.

I used a mouse over script on the postcard and a conveyor slide show of the author's books on the second page.

I created a form using snappoll. The form allows viewers to vote for the favorite postcard.

I used a Javascripting book for ideas and I used the dynamic html website for inspiration.

Usability Requirements

I was only able to use windows XP to test my page. However I was able to use Netscape 6 and Internet Explorer 6 as well as a 17 inch monitor and a 15 inch monitor to test the sight.

The spotlight does not seem to work in Netscape 6 but it does in Internet Explorer.

The postcards are arranged differently on Netscpae but it does not effect the overall layout.

Computer Settings

15 inch monitor normal font

32 bit color and 1024 x 768 pixel screen resolution: This setting by far is the best color and the easiest to view.

16 bit color and 800 x 600 pixel screen: The color is not as sharp. Many of the warm tones have been lost and the words and letters are much harder to read. They appear very blurry.

32 bit color and 800 x 600 pixel screen resolution: Better color but still difficult to read.

17 inch monitor with extra large font

32 bit color and 1280 x 768 pixel screen resolution: Everything seems scrunched together.

32 bit color and 1280 x 1024 pixel screen resolution: Tiny screen. Rearranged the postcard page into an odd layout but the images appear very sharp.

32 bit color and 800 x 600 pixel screen resolution: Much easier to read with the extra large font but still loses some sharpness on the images.

Windows 98

Windows 98 does not allow for the mouse over effect or for the conveyor slide show. For some reason the postcards would not show up on the page.

Windows ME

Windows ME also did not allow the mouse over effect to work or the conveyor slide show and the postcards would not show up in this program either.

Validation comments

I ran into several validation problems on my pages. The validator does not seem to like the javascript programs or specialized scripting. The homepage had a problem with the spotlight effect. I kept getting an attribute "type" not specified. Adding a type attribute made the spotlight quit working. The art page would not validate because of the snappoll form I used (....element "FORM" not allowed and character data not allowed). The postcard page seemed to dislike the mouse over and the conveyor slide show.

The home page is BOBBY section 508 approved however I ran into problems with the postcard page because it said the Label element and form controls are keeping me from approval. I still could not read the print in the book so I was unable to try and work on this problem.
