Monday Morning, April 18th, 8:15 A.M. O'Hare Airport, Chicago ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Susan yawned as she waited to board her flight to New York. After her shift had ended early Sunday morning, she had gone home and slept all day, although she was still tired. Her mind wandered as she sat there and thought about New York. She wondered about Chloe and little Suzy. She could only hope that Chloe was staying out of trouble and staying away from drugs. As much as Chloe denied it, Susan could always tell that Chloe was strung out on drugs. And she most of all hated that Suzy had to put up with it. Suzy loved Chloe, but Susan just hated all the shit that Chloe had put Suzy through. She is only six years old after all. And, try as she might, there was no way for Susan to try and track down Chloe after she fled the hospital. When Susan thought of that, she also thought of the police officers that had helped her find Chloe. She really liked the one cop that had found Suzy and bravely jumped through the window to save her. She couldn't help but admit that she wouldn't have minded riding around in the patrol car with him a little longer. Now, what was his name? Oh yea, Officer Boscorelli...Maurice Boscorelli to be exact. She smiled when she remembered how he had specifically asked not to be called "Maurice" but "Bosco". Susan found herself hoping that she would bump into him while she was in New York, but that was highly unlikely. But, of course, she did know where he worked and what precinct he works for. She could always stop by after his shift, and invite him out for drinks or something... "Flight 784 to New York, now boarding at Gate 304A." Susan pondered the idea as she boarded her plane. _______________________________________________________________________ Same day, only later, 2 P.M., airport, New York City The flight had been longer than expected. Air turbulence had caused some concern and so, the flight had taken a little longer than planned. But, never the less, she was here. And she had the whole afternoon to spare. Her conference didn't start until tomorrow, and she really didn't have any plans for today. Except to track down Bosco for dinner or something. She had debated it on the plane flight here, and finally decided on it. Her New Year's resolution for this year had been to be more outgoing and "go-with-the-flow", rather than uptight and shy. She figured, what the hell? If he says yes, than we'll go out to dinner and she will have boosted her confidence and self esteem. But, if he says no...well, she didn't really want to think about that. _______________________________________________________________________ 55 Precinct Headquarters, Monday, April 18th, 3 P.M. Susan stood outside the building where she had stood a few months ago, at that time, plauged with worry about Chloe, but mostly Suzy. Susan was lucky she had beat the traffic. She had quickly taken her luggage, checked out the rental car, and checked into the hotel. After changing clothes, and reapplying her mascara, she drove here, to the precinct headquarters. She gathered her courage as she entered the building. She was nearly swept off her feet with all the hustle and bustle of the building. The front desk was swarming with people. Phones were ringing off the hook throughout the building. Desks were practically disappearing in paperwork. Uniformed officers led drunk men and women into cells. "This is almost as bad as the ER" Susan thought as she approached the front desk. One of the women at the desk looked up and said "Yes?". "Yea, I'm looking for an Officer Maurice Boscorelli." "And who might you be?" "Oh, Dr. Susan Lewis from Chicago" "Well, Dr. Lewis, Officer Boscorelli is in roll call right now, but I'll go check. If you want to follow me down the hall to the roll call room, you can wait by the door while I get him." the desk clerk said as Susan followed her down the hallway to the roll call room. She waited as the other woman went into the room. She leaned her head closer to listen to what they were saying. "Officer Boscorelli, there's a Dr. Susan Lewis from Chicago to see you." Susan heard other man laughing at who she assumed was Bosco. One comment particularily stuck out. "Hey Bosco, what? Are you dating a doctor now?" Bosco's reply struck daggers in her heart. "No man, it's strictly business. She's probably the last person I'd date." Hearing that, Susan turned down the hall and started to walk away, resisting the urge to completely break down and cry. She wondered how she could have possibly been SO stupid? She should have known that there was nothing between her and him. She then heard somehting behind her. "Susan!" She turned around and saw him standing there. "Susan! Wait! What you heard I didn't mean it, I just..." Before he could finish, she turned and ran. She ran past the officers, past the front desk, and right out the door. She ran to her rental car and go in. As she drove silently back to the hotel, tears streamed down her cheeks... _______________________________________________________________________ Bosco watched as Susan walked away. "Susan! Wait! What you heard, I didn't mean it, I just..." but before he could finish, she turned and ran out of the station. Part of him wanted to run after her, tell her how he REALLY felt. The other half knew it was too late. She had heard what he had said. He hadn't meant it. It was just something with the guys. He had to keep his tough guy attitude, otherwise he'd be the laughing stock of the department. He had only said that about her that way they wouldn't think he was a complete "softy". And right now, he could have kicked himself for saying that about her. Of course he wanted to date her, or atleast get to know her better. She's pretty, she's a doctor, she's smart, she's everything he had every wanted. When she left from New York after they found Chloe and Suzy, he often thought about her. What it would like if she live here, with him. To see her beautiful, shining face everyday. And now, he'd gone and ruined it, he thought as he walked defeatedly back to the locker room. He looked at his watch. 3:05 P.M. His shift was just now ending. He had switched just for today from his usual shift to the 7 A.M.-3 P.M. shift for a buddy of his. He thought about trying to find Susan. But, he had NO idea even why she was in New York. He had no idea where she staying, how long she was staying, nothing. He grabbed his duffel bag and headed out to his car. He drove out of the parking to his apartment the whole way there, thinking of Susan. Once in his apartment,he set his keys down on the counter and went through the mail. He went and changed into some sweatpants and an old NYPD shirt. Grabbing a beer from the fridge, he sat down on the couch, and thought. About her..... Chapter 2: Coming soon!!!!! TBC.................................. |
