BABIES ACTIVITIES

Your baby will be kept quite busy just like the other children. They will be joining the group during circle time to hear the songs & stories as well. They may not be able to sing yet but before you know it, they will be babbling along with the rest of the group.

During our circle time, your baby might be cuddling in my lap, sitting in a sit –in-play, or lying on a blanket getting some of his/her much needed tummy time. Your baby will not be in the same spot for any long period of time. If the baby is busy playing happily, I usually leave the baby until he/she lets me know he/she is getting bored.

Infants are always fed on demand and toddlers usually eat meals and snacks with the older children. This is one reason why our daily schedule is not "set in stone." While the older children engage in free play or nap I try to take some time to play with the infants and toddlers (especially infants -- toddlers often play alongside the older children). Feeding time and diaper changing time are good times for interaction with infants and toddlers.

Since infants and toddlers cannot communicate the time of each diaper change, feeding, and what was eaten, etc. I will fill out a paper called, WHAT I DID TODAY for each infant / toddler hopefully each day (time permitting). The sheet contains a variety of important information such as, time of feedings, what was eaten, the amount eaten; diaper checks and results, times of naps, any medication given, and various comments about the child's day.

Toddlers (babies that can walk) will be encouraged to sit with the group but never forced. Our circle time takes place in the playroom with the different play/learning centers so he/she may toddle back n forth between the toys and the group.

I have a large variety of baby equipment I will be using with your baby. Some of the equipment I have available include the following: a car seat, bouncy seat, swing, baby gym, (I have two varieties; one with toys, another with a variety of hanging animals & toys), the floor, the playpen, etc. I have a large selection of baby toys to choose from as well. Your basic chewing toys and noisy rattles, toys to encourage the hand-eye coordination, ones to encourage the development of new skills, and some for enjoyment and exploration.

All toys given to baby are specifically designed for children under three years of age. All toys are washed in a bleach solution when shared between two babies.

SAFETY: When I have to prepare meals and snacks or tend to another child, your baby will be placed in an age appropriate safety device, playpens are the typical items of choice.

SLEEP: All babies will be placed on there back to sleep. The American Academy of Pediatrics, SIDS Alliance, and Association of SIDS and Infant Mortality Programs all recommend this to reduce the risk of crib death also known as SIDS. So for the safety of your baby, I will follow this recommendation. Your baby will be checked on often, (about every 15-20 minutes if possible) & a child monitor will be on if the baby is sleeping in another room. If baby falls asleep, for example, in the swing, I will usually leave them to sleep. Again, I let the babies sleep as long as they need to unless you specify otherwise. I will not let baby sleep more than three hours at a time. Every baby is treated as an individual, and his/her schedule will be adjusted according to his/her needs.
