It's been a great week so far. Even though the week usually goes faster because I look forward to my friday night drunken-fest @ HOME (the nightclub, you foolz...). But since tomorrow is Good Friday, I will not be engaging in any fun and games... Black Saturday, too. No DREAM... *sigh* All good. I guess it's better to rest-up to resume next week's party. Emm-hmm... I'm SO looking forward to it.
Nonetheless, the week has been going by just as fast. Watched a decent movie tuesday night, had my weekly "TG" meeting last night (great times/conversations, guys!!), and today is just gonna go by as fast. Got no plans, but I'm looking forward to just going home after work, and veggin' out. I need some "ME" time. AHAHAHA!
BUT - travesty of all travesties. CARMEN IS STILL ON American Idol! WTH?!
Last night I saw a sneak preview of Better Luck Tomorrow, that's the new MTV movie that's just about purely "Asian American." I guess they didn't count The Debut as purely AA, but rather FA (yo, wattup, my FLY filipino americans!!). ANYWAY. It was actually a good movie - it sorta started off by highlighting the Asian American stereotype that we're a model minority: smart, intelligent, money-makers, etc. BUT, as the story went through twists and turns, it basically showed that even the smartest and most intelligent of people can be marred by human fallacies: greed, power, money, etc. It clearly dotted on issues that could and would be faced by ANY person - black, white, Jew, Asian, rich, poor, smart, not-so-smart, pretty, ugly, blah-blah-blah. It was very interesting, though, how the story took the perspective from the views of Asian Americans. Good for MTV, though. It totally showed that Asian Ams are just as volatile as our Anglo and African, and even Latino, counterparts. It was REAL. I definitely recommend it... it's was very Cruel Intentions~esque.
Passover begins at sundown, so it says on my calendar. So to all those who celebrate --- HaPpY PaSsOvEr!! Let's just all try to enjoy the beautiful weather today. Ahhhhhh...
I'm a little grossed-out because I have a tiny zit on my nose. I don't know from what. I'm even more grossed-out cause I need a hair-cut. But I'm unsure of what to do, cause I sorta wanna try to grow it out...not grunge-lookin', but just enough for me to do stuff with it. You know? (i so don't support that 1990s grunge look anymore... unless you're a 20-something rock superstar like the ones out on MTV these days... kurt cobain is so "a-week-ago...") So yeah, that's another dilemma. I'm even extra-more grossed out because I ate a trife breakfast. I had two mini-bagels, but then I also ate a little bit of scrambled eggs, some sausage, and some fried rice that dad cooked-up this morning. That's SO not my usual "healthy" breakfast. So now I'm skipping LUNCH.
OH - I watched BOTS last night, and can I just express how much James is a whiney lame-ass? I mean, he was all wah-wah about "I think I should stay..." or "i'm gonna lose at a coin toss..." What a damn pressed pussy-betch! That was TYPICAL of him. Hello - the most FAIR thing to do was to do a coin toss...and he was STILL tyring to gain brownie points by being "emphatic" about his want to stay in the game. THAT'S WHY HIS ASS GOT THE BOOT, AND ANTOINE CHOSE TO KEEP SHANE OVER HIS SORRY-ASS! And now his lame-ass girlfriend, Emily, wants to leave. Which is fine by me, cause then Genesis gets to stay and enjoy herself. Emily needs to go kick herself for being a dumb-ass. Sorry. AHAHAH! With Genesis left, the rest of girls are the Asian ones. Emmm---do it up, LADIES!! REPRESENT!
Other good news... those missing POWs are now back with their fellow troopers... safe and sound. Now how amazing is that? I really feel happy for them, for their families, and for the military in general. I know this kind of thing totally boosts their morale out there, which is totally a blessing.
Speaking of blessings, life is full of them. In case you haven't noticed. Blessings come in all shapes and forms, sizes, through different people and different experiences. Count them... you'll be amazed.
I stayed-in last night, and just fixed-up my sweatpants. I got them hemmed. Yah, you're thinking "who the hell goes out and gets their sweatpants hemmed?!" That would be ME, damnit!! Yes, although I have a considerable height (for a filipino dude), I am not exactly Marcus Schenkenberg or Shaq. When I buy sweats, they're EXTRA long. So I took 'em to my Korean cousins, and they fixed 'em up. Sorta. WHY did they hem them too high?! I was outraged, and disgusted. So I spent a good hour & a half taking out the hem, which was fine, because they didn't leave the bottom frayed. It was actually sewn, which is DOUBLE cool. Without the hem, they both fit PERFECTLY. *WoOhOo* I'm so particular when it comes to the bottoms of my pants, and how they fit above or around my shoes/boots. Anyway. I ended up watching Murder By Numbers starring Sandra Bullock. It was dumb. OK, it was unabashedly DUMB. NEVER watch that movie. To make-up for it I popped in The Sweetest Thing for laughs. I'm telling you... Christina Applegate, Selma Blair, and Cameron Diaz are SO hot together. It's sorta like how Cameron, Lucy, and Drew are hot together, but Christina, Selma, and Cameron have a different HOTness. They're absolutely funny - much in the way that I am with my own posses ---> PLURAL. I don't run with just one kru...
So yeah, being drugged-up and fixing my sweatpants was pretty much the extent of my exciting Thursday evening. Couple that with a dumb movie and a funny one, after which I called it a night. So what's in store for the weekend? Ahhh, Sherlock. There's MUCH in store for Wen's weekend... just wait and see :P
Funny thing, tho. I was on my way to work when the morning show on 99.5 was cuttin' up on AMERICAN IDOL. It was funny because 99.5, 107.3, and a number of other stations were all asking the dubious question: WHY WAS CARMEN RASSMUSEN NOT VOTED OFF?! To make it even MORE funny, they kept playing a snippet of the song she sang this past Tuesday... LOL. TOO funny. Interesting that both she & Trenyce weren't in the bottom three this week. I thought that they were totally averaging the scores from last week--since the whole Corey fiasco. Kimberly Locke - bottom 3 again? Lucky for her, she was safe. And as much as I don't care for Rickey Smith, it was kinda sad that he got the boot. It actually was about time, because his 97.1-ass should be headed for "Lite FM" fame. But I was totally sure that Carmen would've gotten the boot. Trenyce luckily redeemed herself this week. *whew* But Kimberly Caldwell - wow, what a pathetic choice of a song. She picks the dumbest songs. Her best song choice was "Come To My Window" during the weeding-out of the Top 32. Oh well. We'll see how far this girl can go. On a whole, not too many surprises from AI. But Carmen, your time WILL come.
Hey - do you notice how being sick kinda makes you feel skinny?
Last night I went to Roselle's and we were laughing about stories about a certain favorite person of ours. *ahem* Let's just say that we're both easily annoyed by this person, and it pains me to even try to think of really good things about him/her that make me wanna throw my arms around 'em and say, "YOU'RE MY FRIEND!!" Uhhhh, NOT. Not quite. I don't think so. That's more like it... I'm so mean. But ANYway... Roselle gave me some DVDs, so I'm gonna watch 'em through the course of the next few days. I'm all about the gym, the movies, and a bottle of Tylenol after work (and play...). I'm wavering between a cold and being perfectly fine, so I'm all about the Tylenol and vitamin C tablets. I'm tryin' to go to HOME this Friday. Gotta make my weekly appearance, yanno? Saturday would be DREAM night, but I think we're taking a step back from that and just going to the cultural night at College Park. Sunday I have to sing for this thing that I really don't care to go to, but oh well. I feel bad, so I'm just gonna suck it up and go... it's only a few hours anyway. Perhaps we'll go to dinner afterwards for my dad's b-day :) That could possibly be a plan...
Saw My Big Fat Greek Wedding last night... and I laughed, and laughed, and laughed. I mean, it wasn't as funny as The Sweetest Thing, but I laughed no less. The whole Greek-fobbiness was so inherently Filipino. That was totally Filipino America happening before my eyes, except they were Greek. TOO funny. And I hope that they were just being stereotypical. Even though the story took place in Chicago, it had "gaudy Jersey" written all over it. Tacky clothes, trife accents (although, Chicagoans do have their own accent...), and just a whole lotta-lotta!! But it was funny. Good movie. Two thumbs up.
I had a GRRRRRREEEAAAATTTT weekend... It all kicked-off with HOME on Friday. It was such a good night, with a very interesting plethora of people. There were a lot of the folks from home (ummm... home-home, as in ft. washington/oxon hill, and not HOME as the club...) there that night. They were in tow for someone's birthday. My boy, Steve, was there with Sandy, and it was good hanging out with them. Then I bumped into a number of "other" friends... most of whom were people that I've hardly seen in AGES. It was no surprise that I was totally krunked, as usual for a Friday night. But that just comes with the territory, I guess. There was just a good mix of people, good times, great conversations, laughs, smiles, and yada-yada-blah-blah-blah. Afterwards, we hit up Georgetown Cafe again for eats... then it was back to Bowie, then back to Ft. Wash. The next morning, Gina calls me all EARLY and we head out to Arundel Mills. (it was also my brother's b-day... more in a second...) She had stuff to look for, and I had stuff to look for. We walked the whole mall, and ended at H&M. I had all these things to buy, but I consulted with Gina, and I happily cut the purchases down to three things. I pretty much had my whole Spring line in hand, but I decided that it's still pretty premature to get those things. The weather is still trivial, as are the styles, so I opted to hold-off... just for a good second. I know that I'll be back, though. I'd rather pay the shopper-friendly prices there than tearin' up the spot @ those other mall stores. *EH* I'm over the non-sense shopping now. Seriously. Give me bargains... It's all about CHOOSING WISELY... *wink
Anyway - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY DEAR OL' BROTHA, MARKKKKKKKKK!!! Yes, Mark has turned another year older...and good for him that life is just taking its course through good times: sunny skies and clear outside for MY little bro! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARK!! The family went out to dinner Saturday night, EXCEPT me. I know, I know... BUMMER!! My mom wasn't trying to be clear about things and sprung it on me early Saturday morning (as i was getting ready to go shopping). BUT I already made plans with Flo and Carrie, and they were coming to the house that night. No matter, cause I had been planning another "dinner" for my bro for this coming Friday. We're taking him to SIMPLY FISH... just the cousins and some of his close friends.
ANYWAY, back to my story. After Arundel Mills, Gina and I went to Columbia Mall. She found some stuff she needed, then we had lunch. Afterwards, we went to Target, and we BOTH ended up buying stuff. I bought some stuff to wear to the gym, since my old gym shorts/pants are all HUGE. I had to get size medium shorts/pants. It's cool and all, but annoying to my pocket. Incidentally, when I was coming out of the bathroom, I found a $20.00-bill. With no one in sight to claim it, it was MINE!! ALL MINE! AHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH! Anyway. On our way home we stopped in at the grocery store to pick-up a few things. Carrie came over, and so did Flo, and Gina came soon after. We had this awesome crab-artichoke-spinach dip, that Gina made, with pita bread. We also had cajun fries & ranch sauce. YUMMM!! And TURKEY BURGERS! Yes, we went the healthy route (baked fries, not fried... ahahah!). We watched Maid In Manhattan, and then we watched Gangs of New York, AFTER a long, overly-dramatic decision-making process to choose another DVD to watch. Now THAT was funny. We started to watch Kissing Jessica Stein, but after a while we all decided that it was not at all what we were in the mood for. I mean we weren't really wanting to engage in a film about same-sex relations and yada-yada. It had its funny moments, but then again we were like, "OK, this is NOT fun... this is NOT interesting... BLAH!!" So we took it out and weeded out the rest of the films. Now I don't have an extensive collection, and everyone pretty much saw the ones I had. They all didn't wanna watch Brokedown Palace because of Claire Danes. They obviously don't like her, and are still up in arms about her comments she made on the Philippines during the filming of BP. I'm sorry, I have gotten over that shit a long time ago, and I liked the movie - OK!!@!? OH, and they all just hate Claire Danes. I don't care THAT much for her, but I don't chastise her. NaWmEaN?! She's aight... in an artsy kinda way. ANYWAY, so that was out of the picture. We wanted to watch Dragonfly, but Flo didn't wanna watch it. THEN we tried to watch Soul Survivors, but the opening was way too scary for everyone to begin with. NIX THAT ONE. The process got long and drawn-out, and we even got my mom involved with the choosing process. BUT my Godbro, Primo, ended up coming over and he had Chicago and Gangs of New York. Most of us saw the Oscar winner, so we opted for GoNY, which was a VERY good movie. I don't like Leo DiCaprio, but he was WAY good in this one. It was a long movie, so before it ended we realized that we just lost an hour. I didn't end up sleeping till 5AM the following morning. Next afternoon, I got up and watched The Sweetest Thing. FUN-NY. Then Carrie came over and we went to Mass @ 5PM, St. Mary's in Old Town. Then we had lunch. I had Baja Fresh and she had Panera, and we ate outside. Then we went to Gina's to watch Dragonfly. That was actually a pretty good movie. A lil cheesy at points, but GREAT. It's one of those "thinking" movies. You should check it out.
All in all a good weekend, and a movie-filled one. Didn't spend TOO much, except for Friday night... Then I woke-up at ass-crack o'clock, and I was BLOWN. But despite the rain I hardly ran into traffic, and made it here in good time. I have my gym obligations to deal with... 3-days without it is NOT good for my big ass. Gotta go, gotta go, gotta go!
But yes, I'm having a superFAT day today. I had a banana and a pop-tart for breakfast... then I just had a tuna sandwich for lunch. I'm about to eat an apple... then an orange. Then I'm gonna drag my ass to the gym to just make myself feel the burn. Gotta burn off those damn calories. BLAH-BLAH-BLAH. Why the hell am I so obsessed?!
This Saturday I'm going to NOT go to DREAM. I've been going almost every fucking Saturday, but this time I'm gonna step back. They're having this ASIAN party, which grosses me out just thinking about it. Going to a club with all these Asians there is just so... so... westcoast. SORRY, WeStCoAsTeRz! But I just can't do it. Esp. when all they do is bounce up and down to house or trance or techno. I know I'm Asian, but I need some hip-hop to get me in the mood. What's worse is when they play hip-hop to a predominantly Asian crowd, and hardly anyone can dance to it. Ladies think they can get away with it by slappin' their asses and trying to look seductive or sexy. WHAT-THE-HELL-EVER! Ya'll can't dance! PERIOD! SO yeah... although that rapper from Ruff Ryderz is gonna be there reppin' for his fellow Asians, I won't be. I'm calling it a "blockbuster night." AHAHAAHAH... Gonna chill out with some of mah boos, and just sit-back, relax, and hopefully not feel the itch to be out gettin' my groove on. Cause I sure as hell ain't goin' to DREAM. Not this week, at least.
Mike and Arl are getting married in A MONTH... *WOW*
Everytime I walk into my office, I see that same old cake in the vending machine... the same cake I was droolin' over like last month. THAT totally grosses me out. I can't believe it's still there. I can't believe ANY of that shit is still there. And for those poor souls who actually put their coinage into that death machine - i PRAY for you. I pray that you won't have to haul-ass to the bathroom or something. Speaking of cake, I have this bag of chocolate from my nephew's fundraiser. I bought like $10.00-worth of Kit Kat, Hershey's w/almonds (oooh, yuuuummm...), Krakel, and Reese's. I haven't touched ONE. NADA. ZILCH. What to do with it? I think I should sell it. The thought of me consuming such fatness just makes my stomach churn. See, it all comes down to me and my FAT issues. What gives? This was a pretty random post.
Instead of getting into the whole issue of DC traffic (since we're ranked up there with L.A. and Houston), I'm gonna touch on the issue of something I heard on the radio this morning regarding those Z104 ads. Apparently, there are these ads on Metro buses that say something to the effect of: "TRAFFIC SUCKS!" and "Tune in to Z104..." or something like that. Well, apparently some parents are in an uproar about it because they feel that the term "sucks" refers to something "sexual." PLEASE. Child, please. Then some white-trash mother got on the radio and bitched about how it's a "travesty" for her children and blah-blah. Luckily the majority of the listeners/commentators suggested that it's not even like that, and if you read into the word as something "nasty" then you're pretty much reading way too far into it that you end-up LOOKING for trouble... A caller stated that it's best that parents now a days take the upper hand in teaching their children what they feel is right from wrong, and that way - if and when their children are faced with the issue of discerning whether or not something is "right" or "wrong" for THEM - they can do so without question. Instead parents are looking too much towards the media, showbiz, and other means of "entertainment" to "educate" their children. I'm sorry, but it doesn't work that way. Entertainment is a business, pure and simple. Education is NOT a business, but a responsibility and a priority...and that, too, is pure and simple. When I was younger, my parents always taught me that calling someone a "bitch" was wrong. It was flat out WRONG. But if I watched a show on TV, or a movie, where the word was being used blatantly, my parents didn't stop me from watching it. Just by hearing it and watching how the actor used the word was reason enough for me to know that it meant something disrespectful and demeaning... and so I chose to believe that "SURE...the 'B' word is definitely a bad one." I believe in that situation, my parents did the right thing... and in turn, they allowed me the freedom to choose freely about the word. Somehow, what my parents taught me about the word stood out in my mind. My parents didn't have to turn to the media or anything of the sort to teach me a lesson. They taught it to me themselves: first-hand, on-the-record, and with conviction.
Parents these days are too dependent on the television shows and pop icons to help form their children's own thought-processes and decision-making abilities. But hello!! Why not take the responsibility BACK, and teach these kids yourselves. PARENTS should be the most influential forces in a child's upbringing...even moreso than their teachers, their friends, or even their "television heros." Truth?! If, as a parent, you can't seem to find the time to be responsible for teaching your kids...then plop their asses in front of Nickelodeon or the Disney Channel. And if pop-culture advertisements that talk about how much traffic "sucks" are not your cup of tea, then there are always those other ads that you can smother your children with. Shield them from whatever you feel will taint their little minds. Growing up in America is all about learning... kids live to disobey, so to speak, and will do whatever it takes to just "see what happens." Call 'em inquisitive or what have you, but it's true. C'mon, you've been there before... *wink*
