Farm Chores...
Sing: the following song while vigorously acting out jobs one might need to do while working on a farm:

So early in the morning.
Some possible chores to perform might include mowing the hay, feeding the chicks, sow the seeds, pull the weeds, hoe the field, etc.



DAY 1. In this activity, children will discuss the sounds that different animals make. Then they will play a listening game, using the animal sounds they've discussed. Discuss with children the sounds that different farm animals make, inviting volunteers to make the sounds. You may want to review the sounds by singing Old Mac Donald, including the following animals: hen, sheep, duck, cow, horse, pig, rooster, dog.

CRAFT: The students will color a barn. The students will color farm animals and cut them out. They will arrange the farm animals on their barn pictures and glue them down.



DAY 2. Children will discuss the relationship between people and different kinds of animals. Then they will categorize animals into two groups, farm animals and zoo animals. Zoo Animals A-Z

Lesson: On the farm or at the zoo

CRAFT: Pig
Students will cut out the legs and head of the pig. They will add the two toes to each pig's foot and eyes and mouth and snout to the pigs face. The teacher will staple the body parts to a paper plate that has a pipe cleaner tail already connected. The tail will need to be spiraled to look a  pig's tail.



DAY 3.
Review Farm and Farm Animals. List the kids answers.

SING: FARM SONG (Wheels on the Bus)
The cow in the barn goes moo, moo, moo,
moo, moo, moo, moo moo, moo.
repeat.
All around the farm.

The pig in the pen goes oink, oink, oink...
The hens in the coop ge cluck, cluck, cluck...
The lambs on the hill go baa, baa, baa...
The ducks on the pond go quack, quack, quack...
 

LANGUAGE ARTS:
One day I went to visit a farm. There were animals everywhere.
The biggest animal I saw was a______________.
The oldest animal I saw was a_______________.
The youngest animal I saw was a_____________.
The noisiest animals were the________________.
The softest animals were the________________.
The friendliest animal was the_______________.
I went for a ride on a _____________________.
If I could choose one of the animals to take home,
I would choose the________________________.

CRAFT: Chick in an Egg
Give each child one egg cup cut from an egg carton and two cotton balls. Allow each child to place two cotton balls into the egg cup and glue them inside, one cotton ball on top of another. Then let the students add an orange construction paper beak and two black construction paper eyes.



DAY 4. Plants and Animals

SING: Bingo
There was a farmer had a dog
And Bingo was his Name-o
B-I-N-G-O, B-I-N-G-O, B-I-N-G-O
and BINGO was his Name-o.

How is a Plant different from an Animal?  Venn Diagram
Hold up a slice of pizza. Discuss with the kids where each item on the pizza came from.
List each part of the pizza and trace it back to the farm.

PLANTS WE EAT:
List some of the plants we eat.
List some of the grain and seeds we eat.
Write down the students answers.

READ: What is for Lunch? Corn by Pam Robson
After discuss of the book, look at corn on the cob, open a can of corn and let the students taste it, pass out small corn muffins. Discuss and list all the ways corn can be cooked and eaten. Popcorn, stew, etc.

MATH: Place some popcorn kernels into a clear plastic baggie. Have the children guess how many kernels are in each baggie. Write down the students guess. Together count each bag of corn.

CRAFT:
Corn on the cob. Students will cut out a green husk. and glue it on a picture of a corn cob. Students will take kernels of corn and glue on a drawing of a corn cob.


DAY 5.  Rosie's Walk: Hen
What is the job of a hen? Who was following her? Did she know it?

Spatial Concepts: over, under, around.....etc
Discuss Story
Set up obstacle course for the students.
CRAFT: Color Page: Hen
Students will color a hen, add a few feather by gluing. They will place the hen on a craft stick. The students can use the hen to reenact special positions.
