Introduce
1. Discuss the Story: Ask the students questions and write down all the things that they already know about the gingerbread man.
2. Daily we will read a different version. Through the years, various authors have written many versions of this story. Daily we will read a different version. After reading the story each day, we will list the similarities and differences using a venn diagram on the white board.
3. A Gingerbread will be hiding in the classroom each day. The students will use spatial terms when they find him. He will be under, over, behind, between, inside, beside or below. On the white board we will write this term and we will review and list all of the places we have found him on previous days.
4. Sequence order: With felt board pieces we will review the order of animals and people the gingerbread man passes before he meets his end. We will use the math terms, first, second, third, fourth, etc...
5. Rhyming families. We will try and rhyme as many words as we can using _an. As the students come up with rhyming words, we will list them on the white board.
6. FUN WITH LETTERS AND SOUNDS
- Relate actions to beginning sounds annd letter recognition using the Gingerbread
Man as a starting point. For example: The Gingerbread Man Can B - bounce,
C - catch, D - dance, F - fall, G - gallop, H - hop, J - jump, K - kick,
L - laugh, M - march, N - nod, P - paint, R - run, S - sneeze, T - talk,
V - vacuum, W - walk, Y - yawn, Z - zip. Ask the students to come up with
a list of action words for each letter.
Relate foods in the same format.
For example: The Gingerbread Man likes to eat A - apples, B - bananas,
C- carrots, D - donuts, F - fish, G - gumdrops, etc.. Integrated

7. HOMEWORK - - Send home a brown
81/2 inch X 11 inch gingerbread man with each child. Direct each child
to work with a family member to decorate their Gingerbread Boy or Girl
using a variety of scraps from home including; ribbon, buttons, fabric,
glitter, rice, macaroni, etc. Discourage the use of anything that might
attract ants. Suggest that they attach the pattern to cardboard to give
it extra strength. Integrated

home on our Christmas bulletin board.

8. Map Skills: We will have the gingerbread man leave notes all around the school. On Friday the students will try and find the gingerbread man. After we find him we will map out our trail and review all the places we had to go to find him. After our review, we will draw a map of the school and trace his trail on the map. Eric: Lesson
9. Our Christmas Party Day. We will decorate a gingerbread man. After we decorate our cookies, I will encourage the students to re-enact the story. They can enjoy eating their gingerbread men after the decorating is finished.
Craft:
Day 1. Students will color a
gingerbread man ditto.
Day 2. Students will cut out a brown gingerbread man, he will go home as homework with a note to parents. He needs to come back decorated to hang on our bulletin board.
Day 3. The students will cut out a gingerbread man, the paper will be folded so that upon completion of cutting, three gingerbread men will be connected holding hands. The students can use crayons to decorate their men.
Day 4. The students will color
a gingerbread man. After they have their paper colored, they will cut him
out with another paper behind. After it is cut, we will staple the front
and back piece together, and let each student roll up his/her scraps and
stuff their gingerbread man. After the man is stuffed we will complete
the stapling.
