Dear Parents & Guardians,

Welcome to Kindergarten!  My name is Mrs. Thornton and I will have the pleasure of teaching your child this year.   It is my belief that a child's success is based on a cooperative parent/teacher relationship.  I look forward to working with you throughout the year. 

I hope you and your child enjoyed the summer and are ready to embark on an important milestone in your child's life.  Kindergarten is a time for children to socialize with classmates, learn their abc's and numbers and many other essential skills they will need to succeed in later years.

During the first couple of weeks of school, we will be learning many new and exciting things.  A few of the themes and concepts are:  friendship and sharing, name and color recognition, classroom rules and simply adjusting to a full school day.  Following this, we will be working on the theme All About Me and the 5 Senses.  We will cover a different theme each month.  You will get a newsletter before the start of each theme.  Along with the newsletter, I may come across informative articles to include with the newsletter that you may enjoy reading also.

At this early stage of learning, it is important to set routines in your child's life.  Try to set aside time each day to discuss what your child did in school and for their homework.  Homework will be given almost every day to review what we learned in school.  Please make sure your child completes and returns it. 

In the next few days, there will be some forms that you need to complete and return.  Please fill them out completely and send them back the next day.
