Lawrence of Arabia

My favorite movie of all time. Beautiful cinematography, adventure galore, angst, vaguely slashy subtext, and Peter O'Toole when he was young and gorgeous. What more could you want?

A Dangerous Man: Lawrence After Arabia

Me, obsessed with T. E. Lawrence? Well, yes. This was originally a BBC television program. It stars a very young Ralph Fiennes (who's even more gorgeous than Peter O'Toole) and is set during the Versailles peace conference, when Lawrence tried to negotiate an independent Arab state. Brilliant writing, great intrigue, and a priceless scene where Richard Meinertzhagen (played by Jim Carter) tries to seduce Lawrence.

The Talented Mr. Ripley

This film didn't get the credit or the popularity it deserved. Matt Damon is very good, Jude Law is amazing, and the whole thing is tragic and wonderful. Read the book, too--it's very different from the movie.

Truly, Madly, Deeply

Heartbreaking romance (not slashy, sorry) starring Alan Rickman as a ghost. I cry every time I watch it.

Dark Harbor

Another Alan Rickman movie. This is a marvelous little psychological thriller.

Maurice

A Merchant-Ivory movie from the late 80s. Three beautiful young actors (James Wilby, Rupert Graves, and Hugh Grant in an early role), a fantastic gay love story, and a village cricket match.

Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence

An oddball little movie, set in a Japanese POW camp during World War II and starring David Bowie, Tom Conti and Ryuichi Sakamoto. Strange but really cool.
