Thanks An! [Click this site] May 25, 2003 Eliza Spots! I'm so tired. My week has been so huge. Revalida, physical exam, meetings and such. Still out of the bed updating. =) Not to drain myself much, I'm setting-in now. Eliza Dushku on Wrong Turn, Tru Calling and Buffy Source About.Com Imagine picking up the phone and hearing, “Hey, it’s Eliza.” That is the privilege of doing what I do. People like Eliza Dushku call my house to talk to me. Dushku was in New York where she’d just attended the Up Front presentation for her new show, Tru Calling, which will air on Fox in the fall. We’ll get to that, but first she wanted to talk about Wrong Turn. Wrong Turn tells the story of a group of kids who get lost in the backwoods of West Virginia, where they encounter some mountain men who don’t take too kindly to visitors. Deformed from in-breeding, they chase the kids around and unfortunately, some of them don’t make it to the end credits. Dushku is in action mode, running, fighting and dodging bursts of flame as seen in the previews. It’s not totally new territory for her. As Faith on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, she kicked plenty of ass. She’s also taken on horror with Soul Survivors and of course, Buffy. So, she’s back, and talked about the new movie, the end of Buffy and the upcoming show, all while munching on carrots while her friends waited for her to get off the phone. The previews kind of look like Jeepers Creepers and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. What sets Wrong Turn apart? I think Jeepers Creepers is more monster-y. It’s very Deliverance like the in-breeding. It’s obviously exaggerated in the film, but they’re horribly disfigured and horribly manged out. I thought that was really scary. What were the fire stunts like? The fire stuff was insane. I mean, I felt like Rambo jumping out of this burning building. And then we fought with weapons, used different crossbows. There was actually one awful moment in shooting the scene, the finale in the cabin, I run over and grab this burning log and come up and hit the mountain man from behind. I did what they said, they’re like, “It’s perfectly safe. The board is just going to crack him over the back.” Well, he was wearing prosthetics all over his body which are so flammable. I hit him with a burning stick and he catches on fire. So, he went from like growling screaming to all of a sudden a real man screaming who’s on fire. So, they came in and they doused him down with the fire extinguisher and he was seriously burned. I felt so bad even though I knew that I hadn’t done anything wrong. It’s pretty intense when you’re making movies and all of a sudden there’s real blood and there’s real wounds and pain. Was he okay? Yeah, he was okay. Probably a little pissed off. After playing a slayer, is it hard to fight like non superhero? No, because one of the things that I think I always did with Faith was, even though there was a lot of professional martial arts moves in there, it was more just adrenaline driven fighting and more street fighting and more the power and the psychosis that would come out of a girl if she was jacked in an alleyway and she really believed that no one could bring her down. I think that as opposed to being a superhero, I was more just about the adrenaline, the aggression and the need to win and the need to not be taken down. And I think that my character in Wrong Turn shares that same vigor and determination. What makes you feel empowered? My childhood, I think. I have a really empowered, strong, feisty, beautiful mother and three older brothers who really- - they kind of beat on me but it was out of love. It was more like I was one of the boys. I would wrestle around with the boys and play tag football and I was 10 years old. So, I have these three bothers who are teaching me how to stand up for myself and yet a mother who was teaching me about how important it was for a woman especially to be strong both physically and emotionally and for women to stick together and to back each other up. It’s still a pretty sexist world out there and someone’s got to stand up and say something. Caps from Carson Daly Missed Eliza at Daly? A WRONG TURN to Serious Terror By NATHAN TYLER Source FANGORIA “This is hardcore horror.” That’s how FX wizard/producer Stan Winston describes WRONG TURN (opening May 30 from Fox) during Fango’s visit to the Toronto set. The film is being touted as a throwback to the more visceral, reality-based brand of terror which dominated screens in the 1970s, and aficionados of this era in horror history should be pleased to hear that you won’t find wisecracking killers or CGI monsters anywhere near this film. “There’s nothing camp about this movie. It’s very hardcore horror, and has the tone of DELIVERANCE and THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE,” says Winston, who is producing the film with Brian J. Gilbert through his Stan Winston Productions, as well as handling the FX. “It’s the real deal, and we haven’t seen—I don’t think—a really good serious horror movie in quite a few years.” Similar to those classics cited, the plot of WRONG TURN follows a group of unwitting young people who, after making a you-know-what in the West Virginia wilderness, are hunted and terrorized by three inbred, cannibalistic mountain men. The kids must then, of course, fight for their lives against the baleful trio. Directed by genre freshman Rob Schmidt from a screenplay by Alan B. (SPAWN) McElroy, and executive-produced to the tune of $15 million by Robert (RESIDENT EVIL) Kulzer and Erik (I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER) Feig, WRONG TURN features one of the hottest young casts in recent memory, with Eliza (BUFFY) Dushku, Desmond (GHOST SHIP) Harrington, Jeremy (MAY) Sisto and Emmanuelle (RICKY 6) Chriqui tackling the lead roles. Well-acquainted with the genre, all of the actors were gung ho about adding the project to their résumés…except for Dushku, who apparently needed some coaxing after reading the script. “She didn’t want to do another one of those horror movie romps,” explains Winston, “and I basically told her that this is not just another one of those—this particular movie isn’t like the movies or TV shows [she is used to]. This is not BUFFY, this is not SCREAM, this is much more of a throwback to the down-and-dirty horror of the ’70s, and not be one a typical film for her.” The saving grace, though, was that the actress happened to be a fan of director Schmidt’s indie festival dramas CRIME + PUNISHMENT IN SUBURBIA and SPEED OF LIFE. “I was interested to meet him,” says Dushku, “and to see why he took [WRONG TURN] on and what he wanted to do with it, because the characters really didn’t have a lot on the page. I thought it would be cool to see what he did with it. And then I ended up meeting with Stan and he showed me all the special effects aspects of the movie, and it was just kind of intriguing and appealing.” For the director, WRONG TURN posed an opportunity to do something completely different from the work he had done in the past. A lifelong genre fan, Schmidt explains, “I was looking for a horror film. I had a movie at Sundance before this and I did indie stuff, punk rock videos, things like that. I really wanted to do a genre movie, and I read a lot of scripts that were not so good. And then I found WRONG TURN. It was very simple and well-executed, and exactly the sort of thing that I wanted to make.” As with Winston, what drew Schmidt most of all to the screenplay was that WRONG TURN couldn’t be further removed from much of today’s mainstream horror fare. “The script doesn’t wink at the audience and it doesn’t attempt to be funny; there’s no irony in it,” notes the director. “It has characters you’re supposed to invest in. That’s what these movies—when they’re good—do. Even the bigger ones like JAWS and ALIEN, they do the same thing.” Of the ’70s comparison, Schmidt is careful to note, “This is not a homage—it is like another one of those movies.” “It’s physical horror. It is shocking. It is unsettling. It is very visceral. It is extremely organic,” adds Winston, the FX master’s flair for the theatrical in full tilt. “The goal is to make you believe when you sit down that the filmmakers are really out to hurt you, and out to scare you. And not let you think, ‘Oh, we love that one. That person is a good one, so she won’t die.’ Yeah, she will. And in a really horrible way.” Site Update That Thing You Do section has been updated. May 5, 2003 Bad Girl Does Good SHIVERS By Martin Ellis Before I go any further to the news, allow me to apologize for the lack of updates. My server was intermittent for almost a week, and it left me no chance to fill-in. Plus point though, I resulted in an "Online Exit" and enjoyed my vacation with my sweetie. For candor sake, it's my birthday! Pink Teddy, Embrace! TIGHT EMBRACE. LOL! Oh, Happy Birthday to my lovely friends too- Storm, Kiggs, Annie and Fyro! Pls. hit me back if I missed any name.=) Back to Eliza... Here's an article from Shivers. We celebrate the return of Faith, Buffy’s rogue Slayer who has been off our screens for too long, and look at the work of actress Eliza Dushku, who plays her. There’s no mistaking her – the huge, soulful eyes, the streetwise attitude, the husky drawl peppered with her own darkly sarcastic wit, the wicked way with a crossbow – it could only be the second most-beloved Vampire Slayer in the world – Faith. In the Buffy universe, we know that no one is altogether good, no one is altogether bad, and no one – even vampires who impale people on railway spikes – is irredeemable. No one represents this better than Faith. From her very introduction she was a cause of worry – a New Slayer thrown up in the turmoil after Buffy’s first ‘death’ – an almost impossibly-skilled fighter who couldn’t quite control her powers and took a human life. This act affected Faith badly, and seeking answers, she eventually turned completely rogue and fell in with Sunnydale’s monstrous Mayor Wilkins in his insane plot for demonic immortality. I think Joss Whedon must have an exceedingly special place in his heart for Faith, and her protracted absence from the Buffy and Angel storylines has little to do with the viability of the character and everything to do with the success of actress Eliza Dushku who has played her since Buffy’s third season. So mature was her performance that it’s incredible to believe that Dushku was only 18 when she started Buffy. “When I tried out for Buffy after graduating from school, that was where I was in my life then. I did this hard-as-nails big talker thing,” she says. A Boston native of Albanian and Danish parents (both are College professors) Dushku grew up in a strict Mormon household and consequently suffered at the hands of bullies. “I don’t care who you are, everyone has been through it – that feeling where you’d like to be someone else,” she says. “High school, with all those girls trying to be cool – they compare it to prison and I’m with them all the way.” Dushku played a cheerleader in Bring It On with Kirsten Dunst, but although she had studied jazz, tap and ballet, had difficulty getting through the complex dance moves. “I grew up playing football with my brothers so I’m not the most graceful person, and I had to work with the choreographer on the cheerleader routines,” she laughs. “I had to have special ‘Eliza days’ when all the other girls had gotten it weeks before.” The actress has constantly been trying to take time out to complete her education, but her efforts are frustrated by a series of worthwhile, high-profile film roles with the most acclaimed up-and-coming young stars and some of Hollywood royalty. “Each year, I say I’m going to go to school next year,” the actress told E Online. “It’s inevitable that I’ll end up getting my education. But I love working – I’m a worker bee at heart. It’s such a stimulus. When I’m not doing anything, that’s when I’m freaking out. I get neurotic and analytical and like, ‘I need a shrink!’ I’m trying to figure it out.” April 26, 2003 Wrong Turn Update Hi guys! Long time and I haven't posted. Six days, and I feel so irresponsible.LOL! Kidding aside, if you know LIFE, WORK and other TRAPPINGS, then I JUST defended myself. And so the news... Some comments: From Film-Fix.com Jack here, Eliza Dushku is quickly becoming the Alyssa Milano pin-up girl of her generation – Except unlike Milano, Dushku can actually act without pointing out the fact that she has a great set of breasts and petite ass (which Milano has used as her foundation) – Dushku was launched into the limelight playing Ahnuld’s 14-year old daughter in ‘True Lies’ – Since then she has put in riveting guest appearances on ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ and ‘Angel’ followed with a breakout role in the sleeper hit ‘Bring It On’ opposite Kirsten Dunst – Her next project sounds like a howler – Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, a group of friends get trapped in the wilderness only for a deranged serial killer to start offing them one by one – I know what you did last summer – You watched ‘Scream’ 10 times and said instead of a high-school we’ll set it in the woods and we’ll pitch it as ‘Scream’ meets ‘The Blair Witch Project’ – Genius. As for the movie's poster, Annie of KINDRED Board has posted a link from ELizaDushkuOnline. ![]() NOTE: Saved on my own server. BUFFY:Episode 21: End Of Days [Spoiler] Taken from Wendy's Spoiler Zone: Episode 21 begins in a sewer with a bomb about to go off as Faith and several Potentials, including Kennedy, are nearby. The bomb goes off as everyone dives for cover. Elsewhere, Buffy easily removes a Scythe from a rock as Caleb watches. He wants her to give it to him, but she won't. The First appears in Buffy's form to Caleb and tells him to let Buffy go; they'll get the Scythe later when her back is turned. Willow, Xander, Anya and Dawn return to the Summers home having failed to find Buffy. At the site of the bomb blast, Faith is unconscious and various other Potentials are dead and injured. The Potentials (carrying Faith) flee two Ubervamps coming after them. The Ubervamps have the Potentials cornered when Buffy arrives and dispatches them with the Scythe. The Potentials are in awe of Buffy. Everyone, including Buffy, returns to the Summers home. We learn that the bomb in the sewer was a trap. Buffy starts to take charge again. Later, she asks Xander to do something for her. Xander doesn't seem happy about it because he wanted to be with her at the end. Buffy says she is counting on him. Willow and Giles are trying to do research on the Scythe. Giles wants Willow to draw power from the Scythe, but Willow is afraid of losing control again. Xander is in the car with Dawn and they talk. Suddenly, he puts a handkerchief over her mouth--he's drugged her so she's unconscious. The First and Caleb merge so that Caleb can be strong again. Faith and Buffy talk about the scythe and how to be a Slayer is to be alone because they can't share the burden. As Buffy goes downstairs, she runs into Spike coming in the front door. She is unsure how to act because of the night before. She shows him the Scythe. Spike says it's the kind of thing a girl ditches a guy for. Buffy apologizes. Spike says it's ok, "last night was ... just a little cold comfort from the cellar dweller--let's don't make a thing of it." Buffy says fine, she has work to do. As they walk away from each other, Buffy turns back and tells him he's a dope. She tells him that "the reason I'm holding [the Scythe] is 'cause of you. Because of last night, the strength you gave me." She doesn't know how he feels about last night but ... Spike says he is terrified. He tells her it was the "best night of [his] life": "I've lived for sodding ever, Buffy. I've done everything--I've done things with you I can't SPELL, but I've never...been close. To anyone, least of all you...Until last night. All I did was hold you, and watch you sleep, and it was the best night of my life. So I'm, yeah. Terrified." She says he doesn't have to be terrified. He asks if she was there with him, and she says she was. When he asks her what it means, she wonders if it has to mean something. That breaks the feeling of closeness between them, and he withdraws a bit. She says "Maybe, when --," but he wants to just leave it. He says they'll go be heroes, then leaves as she watches him go. Andrew and Anya have gone to the hospital to get supplies, and they talk about whether they will survive. Buffy goes to a cemetery and finds a tomb in which she finds an older woman, dressed in white. She's been waiting for someone to get the Scythe, which was made secretly without the knowledge of the Shadow Men. She tells Buffy to use the Scythe wisely to fight evil. Caleb shows up and snaps the woman's neck. Xander gives Dawn a letter from Buffy, telling her that Buffy wanted to send her away to protect her. Dawn uses a stun gun on Xander and turns the car back around to Sunnydale. Buffy fights Caleb, and Angel shows up to help. "Heard maybe you needed a hand," he says. Buffy fights Caleb some more. After, Angel asks her to tell him she's glad to see him. She hugs him, then they kiss, tenderly at first, then a real kiss. As they kiss, we see that Spike is watching, the First-as-Buffy next to him. The First says judgmentally , "That bitca," and the last shot of the episode is Spike's pained face. Site Update Updated "Win An Award" section. Congrats to Buffy and TV Nation for the award. April 20, 2003 Faith and Wood? Happy Easter! In Seventh Heaven, and I missed the translation. Big cheese and Coke, you caught me.LOL! Excuse me guys, just my private verve! Hi U.A and it was really fun! Sweet! Okidoki, here are the updates. Long-drawn-out, Othrin of KINDRED Board has posted yet another love slant. Faith and Wood? This is in circulation. Spoiler's theme. Quoting Othrin: Faith has JUST been visited by The First/The Mayor. He really got to her BIG time. She's slightly in shock. A hand on her arm startles her. She turns to find Wood standing behind her, shakes his hand off and moves away. She warns him about sneaking up on her, and he appologizes, "I knocked." He asks her what happened, but Faith trys to drop it. Still, she looks shaken. "You sure you're alright?" he persists. Faith gets defensive and questions why he should care. Wood just says that she just looked kinda upset, and so aked if she was okay. Faith relents, "Sorry." Wood starts to leave, but Faith stops him,"It was the First." Wood comes back and closes the door. Faith looks vulnerable. Wood comments on how the First doesn't show unless it thinks you matter. Faith holds up a trembling hand, "Man, look at that..." she says. "That really got me." Wood asks her who the First was to her. "...an old boss of mine...he was like a dad to me." "It was my mother," says Wood. They both relate how they, in a way, wanted the person the First was being to be real..."Nobody wants to be alone, Faith. We all want someone who cares. To be touched that way." They're intense. They connect, get the need in each other. They talk some more...about what the First told them, about Buffy a little. Wood starts to mention the mission they have planed, but Faith interupts him, "Forget about tomorrow. This is tonight." She puts a hand on his arm. Then she kisses him. "Touch me." says Faith. They passionatly fall back into bed. That's what I've been finding in every Buffy site I go... Even in some Brazil's forum I'v seen it... don't know how u guys haven't heard about it yet... There's this ppl who keep saying that Faith do it only to get Buffy jealous... Don't know if she thinks Buffy likes Wood, or if she wants Buffy to be jealous of her... Oh, by the way, I think they do it on BUFFY'S BED!!!! And it's gonna happen in the ep. "Touched"... [Message Board] True Calling Update Paul has posted several links about the series. Check out the message board. [Go here] Site Update Thanks to Heather for adding another share in "That Thing You Do" section. Keep it coming. |
