DVD Review-The New Guy IGN.com gave The New Guy's DVD 6/10 rating . Not a good score, but for me, the movie is such a heap! Here's how the scoring went: THE MOVIE DJ Qualls (the little dude from Road Trip) plays Dizzy; a kid bullied around in his school and longs for a change. One day after being tossed in jail for a disturbance in the mall, he is convinced to get himself expelled from his school to start over in another. the ropes he'll need to stand out in the new school as "The New Guy". From there the movie follows the established comedic formula for such as story while using similar gross-out gags and timing as a Farrelly Bros. movie. There really are some funny moments here, even though they are spaced a little far apart. The movie is also packed with celebrity cameos. Gene Simmons, Henry Rollins, Tony Hawk, Tommy Lee, and Vanilla Ice all pop up in the flick and believe it or not the Ice Man actually as one of the funnier moments in the flick. If there was one thing that really bugged me in the movie, and made me roll my eyes, it wasn't the gross-out humor. It was the product placement. The flick is from Columbia TriStar, which as you probably know is a Sony Pictures Corporation. There are EverQuest logos in many scenes including one in which you see posters for three EQ games, a T-Shirt, EQ action figures, and the loading screen of the PC game all in one shot. I don't think it's as bad as the PS2 Dual Shock 2 controller that popped up in Men in Black II, but it's pretty bad. If you liked Dumb and Dumber, There's Something About Mary, or Me, Myself, and Irene, then you may want to give The New Guy a rent. The flick isn't quite as good as those previous comedies, but the humor is along the same lines. 6 out of 10 THE VIDEO The 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer on the disc is generally pretty good. Colors are very bright and vibrant, detail is fine, and edge enhancement isn't too noticeable. However, the big problem comes in the way of grain that's especially annoying early in the flick and can be seen in nearly every shot of where the sky can be seen in the background. 8 out of 10 THE AUDIO There really isn't anything wrong with the DD 5.1 mix on the disc, but there isn't anything exceptional about it either. You'll get some thumping bass during some of the music in the flick, and all five channels are active with the ambient sounds of a highschool complete with panning effects such as a school buss moving from one side of the soundstage to another. 8 out of 10 THE EXTRAS This is basically a bare bones disc. You do get a music video as well as trailers for The New Guy, Mr. Deeds, xXx, Spider-Man, and other Columbia titles. The cool thing about the Spider-Man trailer is that it isn't the famous "nipple trailer" that has been featured on other DVDs such as Ali and the MIB: Deluxe, but rather the newer trailer that was released on the internet right before the film hit theaters this summer. 1 out of 10 Check out the website as there are some pix of Eliza. [Go Here] July 24, 2002 The New Guy In Australia Hey Aussi fans, here's the news you would truly love. Eliza will be in Australia, not physically though [for now], her movie, that is. There was an ad on Celebrity Big Brother about The New Guy release date in Australia, and yes, it's gonna be very very soon. Very soon as in August 8, 2002. Be sure to watch it guys. Oh yeah, I've seen it a lot of times, and it's totally entertaining. As per Eliza's description,"The movie has a universal theme." Take it from her, it's really cool! Kewl thanks as well to Sahn Mcgaw for sending me this message on board. You too may add your share, I'm always on the look for new members, anyone interested? Just go and register, it won't hurt to be one. [Message Board] Still 'The Guy' Taken from EDO: Eliza was indeed very busy during "The New Guy" days. Of course, some promo activities for the said film. There were a lot of fortunate individuals who managed to have her pix and autograph. Actually there are really some more, here's JAM'N 94.5 website when she did the interview. [Check it out] More Faith News All of us, I'm sure, are keeping an eye of Faith's possible guest appearance in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. We've been seeing good comments from the creator Joss Whedon for that matter though, and we just simply want her back! Well here's a bit of Faith news . This was taken from FH courtesy of BlackMask. Lorne (Andy Hallett) will return from Las Vegas, where the cast and crew will shoot for three days on an upcoming episode. It's also likely Angelus, Angel's evil persona, will return mid-season and that may trigger a visit by a vampire slayer last seen in prison. "Faith is a slayer, Angelus is a vampire," Simkins said. "I'll let you draw your own conclusions." Site of the Week Kindred was awarded Site of the Week from Buffy Unforgettable. I'm so grateful! Check out my awards and nominations page. Changing The Way I Look I always wanted to do a colorful site. There has been a lot of things running my mind, in terms of designs and lay-outs. The use of Flash Macromedia is one great tool to incorporate as well. So far, my site has been my bestfriend. Funny though, but I rather stick home and face the radiation. Concerns have it w/ my family and friends, and refusal for some dates too[it's true]. Anyway, I'm giving you the picture on how KINDRED should look in the future. I really hope it's going to happen since I'm also in the loop of quitting the site. Honestly, it's all about lack of time and energy. But I'm giving higher consideration to the first one. Anyway, my deepest thanks to all my visitors. I'm still here. July 21, 2002 Faith's Dagger And you said you wanted to be like Faith? Here's your chance to be a slayer [he he he]. Remember that dagger, the mayor has given Faith? It could be yours too. You're five by five here, Ebay has it for sale. DESCRIPTION: "In the third season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Faith was given a dagger by her boss/father figure the Mayor, which would also be the dagger that would lead to the season fanally where Buffy stabs her with it sending her into a coma. This auction is not for the dagger used on Buffy but it is the exact same style as the one you see on TV. The dagger measures 15 1/2 inches in length, blade length is 8 1/4 inches, and the blade thickness is 1/4 of an inch. The range of daggers was officially made before the producers of Buffy got their hands on one therefore this is the highest quality of dagger and is not a cheap replica. Please view my other auctions to see more Buffy/Angel props." [EBAY] Bring It On Again I super love this movie a lot. Just to say I've watched it more than 365 times [and still]. Maybe too long ago though, but I'm still craving for some odd notes about the film, and hey, I found one, kinda interesting, and I'll share it w/ you- BLOOPERS. I listed some parts [Eliza as Missy] Taken from Movie Mistakes.Com When Missy goes to lick her finger during the try outs to wet her finger to wipe the tattoo off her arm, her tongue is already black - must have done had to do that shot twice When the cheerleaders go to pick up Missy in Les' car, they are playing Blaque's song and Missy comes out and does a small dance routine. In this scene and the next inside the car, both Missy and Torrence are wearing only the top and skirt of the uniform. Later in the game, all cheerleaders show up wearing the uniform WITH turtleneck sweaters. As we know the girls did not change clothes at school, so it was a bit odd to watch Missy and Torrence without their turtlenecks in the previous scenes In the audition scene, Whitney closes her notebook after Missy's audition and in the next scene, it is open in front of her. When Torrance and Missy are driving to see the Clovers, they appear to be driving on the freeway which means they would have to be driving pretty fast. However, the locks are up the entire time, and any Beetle owner should know that the car automatically locks the doors at 10 MPH. Read the complete review. [Movie Mistake.com] Site Update One great affiliate and one new award. [Yep, I'll be posting it now]. Kisses. Downtime Honestly, I'm having a lot of frustrations keeping the site. As always, some of my pages aren't accessible yesterday. When this happens, it's just not cool to continue and update. But I'm holding on now, hopefully for long. And another, I did a clean up on my affiliate page, sorry guys, if you don't see your banner anymore, it is because you never bother to put my link too. Just fair. Well there are still new affiliates which haven't linked up yet. Please update soon coz I'm doing my next clean up by August [hint]. Keep Kewl! July 17, 2002 Old Faces Back in Buffy source EDTV Okidoks, hey guys and gals, good news to all of us. Faith will be back... Hopefully for real. Why did I say so? Well I got this article from scifiwire, it shows a lot of explaining. Read it loud: Joss Whedon, creator of UPN's Buffy the Vampire Slayer, told SCI FI Wire to expect some familiar faces and a return to an old haunt as the show kicks off its seventh season. In a series of possible spoilers for the upcoming season, Whedon said in an interview to expect the return of Glory, the god played by Claire Kramer who was apparently killed at the end of season five; Warren (Adam Busch), the evil geek killed by Willow in last season's finale; and possibly Faith (Eliza Dushku), the bad-girl Slayer last seen a few season back on Angel. The season will also begin with Dawn (Michelle Trachtenberg) beginning classes in a newly rebuilt Sunnydale High School, Whedon said. Glory "will make a guest appearance, maybe more than one," Whedon said during UPN's fall preview party on the Buffy set in Santa Monica, Calif. "We're going to see a lot of old faces. A lot of them. And it's going to be ... for a very particular reason that I will not explain to you. But it's going to be a lot of fun." Whedon also revealed that he has been in talks with Dushku about returning as Faith to both Buffy and its spinoff series, Angel—if Dushku's schedule allows. "Well, hopefully she's going to be integral" to both shows, Whedon said. "But ... nothing has been set. ... We know we'd love to have her back, and we've been talking to her. We're sort holding off. ... [But] I really feel she has a place on both [shows], and it's different in each. She brings something to anywhere she graces the screen. She's an extraordinary actress. And we just want to work with her again. But until things are, you know, definite, we're keeping all that loose, in case, you know, she's suddenly making more movies, that inconsiderate girl." Whedon confirmed that he and his staff will lighten Buffy up after the previous season, which many felt was very dark. Part of that will include a return to Sunnydale High, which was destroyed at the end of season three, and following Dawn as she treads in her older sister's footsteps. "It's nice," Whedon said. "Dawn is now the age Buffy was when the show began. And what's nice about that is that it gives us the opportunity to tell more high-school stories, which were the centerpiece of the show, and which we only got to do for two and a half years. I mean, they graduated at the end of year three, and the first season was a half season. And the only time I've ever truly felt sad and like I'd lost something was when they graduated, because I was like, 'Wait, wait, I went through more bad things! There's more pain I haven't talked about yet! I haven't complained enough!' And now I have that opportunity to complain to America again, and I'm looking forward to taking it." Buffy returns Sept. 24 in its regular Tuesday 8 p.m. timeslot. [scifiwire] Angel To Twist Tighter "Juliet Landau, is somebody else that I think we're probably going to try to woo back again this year," Whedon said at The WB's fall preview. "But again, nothing is set. We never know exactly where these people are at. We have to hunt them down. I've actually spoken with Eliza. ... It's really the question of, will they have the schedule? And this year it may work out. I really hope it does. Because she's such an extraordinary presence." Read the full article. [Scifiwire] July 15, 2002 BUFFY: Season 4 DVD Here's an excerpt of Dark Horizons' review about the DVD. Of course I only got the part where Eliza's name was mentioned. Here it is: Part II: The second half of the season was more tightly knit stories and arcs along the lines of Season Three but just not as interesting or emotionally compelling. "A New Man", "Superstar" and "Where the Wild Things Are" were nice comical freaky episodes, whilst I friggin LOVE Eliza Dushku in her role - the return of Faith in a special two-parter proved a little disappointing as whilst the first episode was great, the 'body swapping' idea used in the second was just plain silly and cliche. Riley episode "Goodbye Iowa" was fine but again proved he's a lacklustre love interest compared with Boreanaz. "The I in Team" and "The Yoko Factor" were not only good 'thread' episodes but the former was the first to really show off the steaminess of the sex scenes in this show. The return of Oz in "New Moon Rising" is pretty good but still lacking, whilst the 'Adam' storyline ender "Primeval" remains the weakest 'season-long villain' ending story the show has done even if it contains a cool fight. Finally comes the very David Lynch-esque episode "Restless", a superbly shot and written piece of television wandering in and out of the cast's dreams. All up even though its a weak season, this show's "weak" episodes are still better than many series' "strong" shows and its still worth grabbing anyhow. [Dark Horizons] True Lies Sequel Well this news has been circulating for centuries now. Are we getting the deal for a sequel? I really hope so. Here's the detail I've found though no mention about Eliza Dushku yet. According to Dark Horizons: True Lies 2: Arnold Schwarzenegger recently indicated to 101.9 FM The Mix in Chicago that he and Jamie Lee Curtis are all set to go. [Dark Horizons] July 13, 2002 It Was Always Me As mentioned before, there is a spoiler of Eliza's new movie. "It was always me" is still in production according to IMDB. I may not guarantee the reliability of this news but you may check out IMDB's website. [IMDB] Elsewhere Since the movie "The New Guy" has been released in the US last May 10, 2002. A lot of people are asking as to when the film will be shown in their country. Apparently I only have UK's schedule at hand, that as per IMDB again, it will be released in September this year. I'll try to check out other local listings for your reference. Dates are subject to change.FYI. Site Update One new affiliate. July 10, 2002 Gloomy Me Hi all! I feel not so up doing the updates since I've been haggling w/ this server problem. My site was inaccessible the whole day yesterday. I'm so tired of dealing w/ it. It's giving me so much frustrations. The last time I had this, I resorted in sending e-mails to all my affiliates and visitors of KINDRED's new URL. And here I am again experiencing the sucky situation. FYI though.... KINDRED is holding two URLs: www.veenmind.earthsucks.com and http://veenmind.chillin.at. Cases like the other URL won't work. Just a big hope that both servers won't left me hanging at the same time. Kindly save. Back to work now. Eliza Dushku Interview Eliza talks about her role in "The New Guy" and "City By The Sea" as well as her body image and her portrayal of 'tough girl' characters. by Rebecca Murray and Fred Topel [Read] Eliza is climbing up Eliza has pulled up to no. 5 from her 8th spot ranking in Hottie Bottie. Amazing Hero And yes, I made it. Just splitting the info into a personal level. Well, I was chosen as one of the SMART heroes in our company. I'm really so honored. Just a background, I'm working in this TELCOM company- it is so far the no.1 Telecommunication's company in our country. We actually have over 7 million subscribers. And to be recognized as such is very fulfilling.Very well indeed since our company is carrying thousands of employees. It was our entry "BIZHUB quickguide" a microsoft access based that has earned us this achievement. I would like to congratulate my co-creator for that project, Ms. Luisa Banares. Well sis, I guess we owe the scrappy team a treat. I'm so happy! July 7, 2002 The Stax Report We are all waiting for Eliza's new film 'City by the Sea' to be released in September. We just hope it would push this time since the movie has been postponed several times. Running through my search engine I've found a very good review of the movie. 'Gina' as her character in the movie was perceived to be the most touching. Quoting "Outside of Vince's neighbor/current lover Michelle, the supporting character I found the most touching was Gina, Joey's ex-girlfriend who presents Vince with a gift he wasn't quite expecting. Gina does some shameful things here but you almost forgive her because she's still such a confused and scared kid; she wants to do the right thing but she keeps screwing up. " [website] Vanishing Act Quite an archive news, The New Guy Reports: The New Guy The freakishly skinny kid from Road Trip gets "hip" lessons from Eddie Griffin, while Eliza Dushku looks really hot. Lets pray we see "a lot more" of her in years to come." [website] Bring It On Sequel No notes of who the stars would be, just as what I've heard, many are auditioning at the Millennium Dance Complex in North Hollywood for the said sequel. I'm just thinking though, if Bring It on will have this, why not keep the old casts as is, and just add more faces for some twists. Hope the old team would still be available to shoot for this sequel if ever. I'm sure it's gonna be cold again coz the "Toros" would be around in the atmosphere. And Eliza Dushku 's Missy theme, it will be sexy, cute and popular to boot. Site Update I've added one great site on my affiliate page. And got another nomination from Slaygal. Thanks. July 1, 2002 Awards and Affiliates It's really humbling to receive an award. What a better way to start the month. And yes, I got a nomination too. You may check my awards and nominations page. Their plot outline describes it as "Three friends trace their relationships with each other and learn about themselves in the process. As fate would have it, they realize how close they all are from the other side; of life, of love, and of losing it". Wow looks very interesting. Well lets just wait and see. |
