More Buffy Next Year?
Author: Michael Hinman
Date: 09-23-2002
There really could be an eighth season of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" on UPN, even if star Sarah Michelle Gellar comes back. But who would be the new star of the show?

"Buffy" executive producer Marti Noxon recently talked to Sci-Fi Wire about those possibilities.
"It is a discussion that we've begun to start having, with both Fox and UPN," Noxon said. "But it's really ... stages. I think the main thing that (creator) Joss (Whedon) feels, and I also feel, is that we wouldn't continue if we didn't feel that we had something exciting to bring to the table. If it felt like we were desperately trying to keep the franchise alive, that's not something that I think interest him. I think it's much more about, can we come up with a concept that might be either Sarah-free or Sarah-light that feels, you know, like a show worth doing?"

Among the possibilities tossed about is having Faith (Eliza Dushku) stay on after she makes several guest appearances at the end of the upcoming season as well as possibly having Buffy's little sister Dawn (Michelle Trachtenberg) taking over the lead role.

"We don't really have a firm plan," Noxon said. "I mean, (using Dawn) is obviously one of the possibilities. But we haven't settled on that at all. I think it was just time to grow Dawn up a little bit, and it's just sort of a natural thing that she would want to sort of follow in Buffy's footsteps."

And about Faith, Noxon said that it "depends entirely" on Dushku's schedule.

"It's definitely a very interesting possibility," she said. "I know some fans are pretty excited about that. So we'll see. I don't even know if Eliza's interested."

Of course, all this talk and Noxon said it isn't written in stone that Gellar will even leave after this coming season.

"Sarah has not said definitively no, but I think it's pretty liekly that she'd at least want to scale her involvement back."

Faith Spin-Off?
Source  EDTV
Comments from Wanda of E, when asked about a possible Faith spin-off:

So, if Faith is coming back for the last five Buffy eps, do you think they might be planning a Faith spinoff, if Sarah Michelle doesn't re-sign?

From your mouth to Joss' ears. They truly, truly have not decided the fate of the show or whether SMG will be back. However, yes, it does sound like this is a very strong contingency plan. I'm sure Joss and Marti have heard the reaction to the possibility of "Dawn the Vampire Slayer." I'm curious, though, what do you all think of a Faith spinoff?

Faith returns to ''Buffy'' and ''Angel'' -- Eliza Dushku's renegade slayer will return to cause more trouble in Sunnydale.
by Gary Susman

Fans of ''Buffy the Vampire Slayer'' who've lost faith over the last couple of seasons will surely rejoice over the news of Eliza Dushku's return to the series. According to the Hollywood Reporter, producers confirmed the recent rumors that Dushku will be back this season as Faith, the renegade slayer who made Buffy's life even more miserable than usual during the 1998-2000 seasons. She'll also be popping up on spinoff ''Angel,'' producers said.

There has been much talk that this may be the final season of ''Buffy,'' with Sarah Michelle Gellar itching to capitalize on her burgeoning post-''Scooby Doo'' film career. Producers tell the Hollywood Reporter that no decision has been made regarding the show's future, but the fact that Faith isn't showing up until the final five episodes of the season would provide a climactic opportunity for the series to go out with a bang. Dushku fans who can't wait until those shows air next spring can catch the actress next month on the big screen in ''City by the Sea,'' opposite Robert De Niro, Frances McDormand, and James Franco.

Dushku Ponders 'Buffy' Return
Posted in Teen Hollywood September 5:

Eliza Dushku is considering returning to the TV series that made her famous - if she can find the time.

Dushku played Faith on the popular series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" until Hollywood beckoned.

Now the 21-year-old is having to juggle a hectic film career with her commitment to her former employers. Her latest film, "City By The Sea," which co-stars Robert De Niro, is about to be released in America and time is not something she has a lot of.

Dushku says, "I don't really know. I might go back and do 'Buffy' again this year."
"I'm trying set aside time in my schedule for that. But I'm totally open to going back and forth between movies and television right now."

De Niro does his tormented-cop-with-a-few-skeletons-in-the-closet thing

But the parts don't quite add up to something greater, probably because there are too many of them — veteran cop Vincent LaMarca (Robert De Niro) is dealing with a cycle of violence (and possibly a "murder gene") in his family, a murder investigation involving his son (James Franco), an unknown grandchild, his son's recovering-addict girlfriend (Eliza Dushku), a bitter ex-wife (Patti LuPone), and an agreeable girlfriend (Frances McDormand) who nonetheless wants to figure out where their relationship is going.

CBTS Today
It feels so long not updating for the past 5 days. This week has just been a total mind dead epoch for me and I’m still in the process of recuperating. Oh well.

Getting started. City by the sea officially opens today. I’m very definite that Eliza Dushku will be getting high five of praises for her role as Gina. Though it frustrates me to learn that her role is not that long, still not a losing end. Just as any role that she plays, is more than remarkable to say. Pretty thinking.

Below is a very good read of Eliza’s character.

From Reeling Reviews.
"City by the Sea" is De Niro and Franco's film but there are a couple of supporting roles that are notable. Eliza Dushku gives a solid perf as Joey's ex-girlfriend and the mother of his son, Angelo (named after Vincent's notorious father). Unfortunately, the actress falls out of the picture too soon. There is real chemistry between Dushku and De Niro that made me want more.

Just Can't Get Enough of Faith
It's official: Eliza Dushku has signed to reprise the role of evil slayer Faith in five episodes of UPN's Buffy the Vampire Slayer and three episodes of The WB's Angel next season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The actress' busy film schedule has kept her away from the Buffy franchise, but she has committed to appear in the final five episodes of Buffy in its upcoming seventh season, the trade paper reported. Earlier this summer, Buffy creator Joss Whedon had told SCI FI Wire that he was talking with Dushku about coming back to the two shows. Dushku first appeared on Buffy from 1998-2000 and guest-starred on Angel in its first few seasons. Buffy returns to Tuesdays at 8 p.m. PT/ET on Sept. 24; Angel begins its fourth season in a new Sunday 9 p.m. timeslot Oct. 6.  WEBSITE

Buffy Fans Have Their Faith Rewarded ...or is that they get a reward in Faith?
Buffy and Angel fans have been grousing for a while over the lack of crossovers between the two shows since Buffy moved to UPN last season. Well, the fans won't have to wait much longer. According to The Hollywood Reporter, rogue slayer Faith (Eliza Dushku) will be appearing in the final five episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and three episodes of Angel this season. Dushku, who has had an active film career away from the Buffyverse, had long been rumored to be in talks to star in her own Buffy spinoff. When viewers last saw the character, she was cooling her stakes in prison with Angel helping her on the road to redemption. Little has been mentioned of the character since but she has remained a favorite subject of the fans. Little is known about her reappearance on both series but it is possible that it could open the door once again to a potential spinoff, possibly to launch after Buffy completes its run. Another rumor puts Faith into the role of the slayer if / when series star Sarah Michelle Gellar decides to leave the series. Either way, lock up your sons and arm your daughters. Faith is back in town.   FILM FORCE

Both Dushku and "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon have expressed interest in reviving Faith.
