Philip and Sarah Crouse’s 18 Children
Philip and Sarah’s 18 children were born in the following order: Sarah, Rebecca, John, Darius, Philip, Elizabeth, Peter, Huldah, Gould, Thomas, Amy, Polly, Urial, Jonas, Richard, Mary, James and Benjamin. All of the children were born on the family’s 400 acre York Co., New Brunswick land grant farmstead, in an area later known as New Zealand, York Co., New Brunswick.
Several basic items concerning Philip and Sarah’s 18 children have been corrected. One of the major changes has been the birth order. Also, Polly & Mary and Jonas & James are no longer considered twins. Mary previously has been listed as a child who died young, but she actually married twice and had several children and stepchildren. Rebecca, Peter and Huldah were known to have spouses, yet their descendants, until recently, were unknown.

Philip and Sarah Crouse’s 18 Children
Raised Their Families
Two of Philip and Sarah Crouse’s children, Polly and Jonas, passed away young while still living at home. Twelve of the eighteen children raised their families exclusively in the Keswick River Valley in New Brunswick. John, Philip, James and Benjamin’s homes were in the New Zealand area. Sarah and Huldah established their homes near the village later known as Zealand. Just down the road, in what today is called Lower Stoneridge, Thomas and Amy’s families were raised. Elizabeth’s family lived in what today is the heart of Burtts Corner. Richard never married and lived with the family of his sister Elizabeth. Darius’ family lived a short distance from Burtts Corner. Rounding out the twelve, Mary raised her family near the village of Mouth of Keswick and then later on Keswick Ridge.
The remaining four children, Rebecca, Peter, Gould and Urial, moved out of the area. Actually Peter died in York Co. as a young man and his wife, Rebecca (Jones), remarried to Ben Blyther, and they moved the family from York Co. to Calais, Maine. Some of the children even changed their surname from Crouse to Blyther.
In the early 1800’s Rebecca’s family moved to the Baysville area of Ontario. Urial raised his family in Carleton County, New Brunswick, in the Parish of Simonds. By 1851 Gould finished moving his family to what later became Crouseville, Maine.
