Cubs acquire Freddy Garcia from Outlaws

Hurler will start tonight

By Ray Leonard / Leiden Cubs MML

Press release:

The Cubs gave their World Series hopes another boost today, when they acquired

Freddy Garcia and a second round 2005 ammy draft pick in exchange for second baseman

Rickie Weeks, and pitchers Carlos Hernandez and Brandon Lyon.

Garcia will take over as the number 2 starter in the rotation, which means he will start tonight

against his former team, the Las Vegas Outlaws. Garcia, 25, and Cubs GM Lennart Rhee will

give a press conference later today.

The most likely scenario is that Hideo Nomo will move up one day in the rotation and that

Tim Wakefield will move to the bullpen.

Weeks was called up to the Cubs earlier today and was expected to take over the secondbase

duties from Alfonso Soriano. This moves ends all the speculations as Soriano will stay at

second.
