The Hanoverian Commonwealth was initiated in January of 2003 with the acquisitions of the Dominion of Athenoi and the Empire of Calormen by the Kingdom of Hanover. The Commonwealth is comprised of the Kingdom of Hanover and the various political entities which give symbolic or actual allegiance to the Hanoverian Crown. A free association of autonomous nations, the Commonwealth is a union which exists to promote activity, industry and community among it's members. United under a common head of state, the member nations of the Commonwealth are free to maintain their unique governments, cultures and identities as they benefit from a sharing of resources, talents and ideas. |
The Dominion of Athenoi was originally a duchy belonging to the micronation of Machiavellia. Justin Lord Williams was created Duke of Athenoi by Edward I, Prince of Machiavellia in March of 2002. Following the dissolution of Tymaria, Athenoi became a sovereign nation with Lord Williams as Head of State. In January of 2003, Lord Williams determined that the Duchy would benefit from a formal attachment to the Kingdom of Hanover and petitioned King James, his friend from their days together in Morovia, to receive Athenoi as a colonial possession of Hanover. The Duchy became the Dominion of Athenoi and was the first member nation of the Commonwealth. His Majesty King James I, as Head of the Commonwealth, became the first King of Athenoi. Justin, upon being named Duke of Guelph and a royal prince of the Kingdom of Hanover, was appointed Viceroy and Commander-in-Chief of Athenoi in January of 2003. |
The Empire of Calormen became the second nation to join the Commonwealth of Nations in January of 2003. His Majesty, Christopher I, seeing the benefits which Calormen would enjoy through a formal attachment to the Kingdom of Hanover, ceded the Empire to His Majesty King James I, who became the second Emperor of Calormen. Christopher was received into the Hanoverian Royal Family, becoming a prince of the Realm. His Royal Highness was appointed by King James to serve his homeland as Governor-General. Once again the actual executive of the state and leader of the people of Calormen, Prince Christopher governs the Empire according to the Hanoverian principles of peace, liberty and justice. |

Rex et Imperator With the acquisition of the Empire of Calormen, His Majesty King James became the inheritor of a new title: Emperor. A revision of the Royal style was necessitated by the acquisitions of Calormen and Athenoi. His Majesty is now James, by the Grace of God of Hanover and of His Other Realms and Territories King, Emperor of Calormen, Head of the Commonwealth. Quite a mouthful, but necessary in order to indicate that His Majesty is, indeed, father of all the peoples of the Commonwealth. His Majesty encourages all members of the Commonwealth to interact with one another and to participate in each other's activities. |
