Origin

In the height of its glory during the last century before Mondain, King Daramouth Blackhand VII ruled Inethria. Daramouth believed a family noble in deed is noble for all time. It was this belief that he instilled in his military troops. And this nobility and valor that allowed the Kingdom to survive the onslaught of Mondains’ assaults. Inethria’s powerful army consisted of an elite heavy calvary, which was responsible for many of the victories due to their raw power, armor and, mobility to cover the vast multi-fronted war. When Daramouth died on the battlefield of that Great War, Prince Sedgewick ascended to the throne. He established four Noble Houses to serve under Inethria’s banner; Enterei, Aidenfel, Dernhest, and Targaryen. All served his father as Generals and where hence granted land and title. He also spread out Inethria’s forces to ease the tax burden on the commoners during this time of peace. The kingdom grew prosperous and attained many holdings throughout the continent by means of these new Lords. Still it was a Kingdom divided, the distance between the holdings was vast and it became difficult for the King to get word to his nobles. With each Lord in command of what would now easily be considered an army, there had to be a way of maintaining a level of control to prevent dissention. King Sedgewick, still in command of the heavy calvary assigned them a more diplomatic role. The Cavaliers would serve as enforcers of the Kings Law, riding in small units of four or five throughout the Kingdom policing the Lords and their Generals. This policy served the King for a time, until the nobles began to ignore the Cavaliers. Greed and power slowly began to tear the Kingdom apart. Reports of the Kings Cavaliers being murdered, cities of Lord Enterei were being pillaged and burnt as punishment for his loyalty to the crown. It would not be long before a civil war would break out. Sedgewick recalled his forces in a last effort to restore peace. His units from Houses Enterei and Targaryen arrived in the capital weeks later. The other Houses did not comply, he knew his foes. Unfortunately with their armies recalled there was no one save commoners, left to defend the holdings. The combined forces of Houses Aidenfel and Dernhest marched across the undefended land, burning cities, towns, and homes to the ground. This army soon became revered as the Army of Fire. Many a tragedy and heroic tale was to be told of this March of Death. Such stories are best read in writings dedicated to them. But let it be known that the suffering and courage of the people of Inethria was great and shall never be forgotten. The Call to Arms rang out across the capital city as the Army of Fire marched over the horizon. The battle for the capital lasted six months before it was finally sacked and burnt to the ground. Before the city fell, King Sedgewick sent the noble families away on ships to the Continent of Britannia. There the families of Blackhand and Enterei were to rebuild the Kingdom. Many centuries went by; the legends of the Kingdom passed from father to son in hopes that in the next generation, the banner of Inethria would rise again.

A family noble in deed is one noble for all time. Lord Victor Blackhand now ruled the House. His sons Venner and Gastyrin were all that remained of the Blackhand legacy. The two boys were the family’s last hope to revive the once proud kingdom. The family took residence in a small manor house in Nujel’m the last holding that Inethria had in Britannia Without the riches and followers they once had, Lord Blackhand still wanting his sons to live a noble life, he sent the two off to serve local lords. The first of the sons to leave, Venner, swore the oath each eldest son of Blackhand had for centuries, that they would live to restore what once was. He took passage aboard a ship for lands unknown and was not heard from for some time. Gastyrin continued his studies on Nujel’m with their father. The Kingdom of Winterfell soon became home to young Venner. Here in the City of Northwood a Blackhand did restore honor to his family’s name once more. After some time there he became one of the Kingdoms most respected Knights. It was here in Northwood that he was reunited with his family’s noble ally, a son of House Enterei, Artemis. Venner was filled with hope of fulfilling his oath; this reunion was no coincidence in his mind. He left Winterfell to seek out the lost people of Inethria. And many he did find. They made there way to the deserts to a hold kept by the late Lord Targaryen and his daughter. There in the desert tower Venner called to the people of Inethria. The noble houses of Enterei and Targaryen swore fealty to House Blackhand and the houses were made one. Soon Venner was made King and his destiny fulfilled. Perhaps it was a time to late for Venner, in his heart he knew where he must be loyal, he was king undisputed, it was his right. But he had sworn his life to another. He had to return to Winterfell. Still he would not leave the newly restored Kingdom without a king. He departed to the island of Nujel’m to seek out his brother. He arrived to learn his father had passed some years ago. Venner learned that his brother had taken a bride, the daughter of Lord MontBlanc of the Arctic. Venner asked Gastyrin to take the crown. At his brother’s request and in his fathers’ memory he accepted. That month Venner returned to his station as a Knight of Winterfell, and Gastyrin and wife Alania set sail for the mainland. Gastyrin Blackhand was crowned King of Inethria and Alania his Queen. Their reign was for a short time prosperous until the untimely and tragic death of the king. While abroad on holiday Gastyrin fell victim to a wyvern on a desert isle. Alania was rescued sometime later and returned to find her husbands’ kingdom practically deserted. Queen Alania worked with Duke Artemis Entreri and his son Ridorion both once prominent and loyal nobles under her late husbands’ rule and with his assistance restored in part the kingdom’s army. Still it was obvious that the Kingdom could not stand-alone against its enemies. Queen Alania dispatched a messenger to King William Scott II of Winterfell. Over the course of the next few months the two kingdoms merged and they became House Blackhand of Winterfell, swearing fealty to Winterfell’s King. House Blackhand was recognized as a noble House of Winterfell, as such granted land and title. The now Countess Alania Blackhand and Lord Artemis Enterei commissioned a House Guard, with the acknowledgement they would train and offer Knights to serve the King and Kingdom. The first of these Knights being Sir Turalyon of Blackhand. The guard itself was established as a heavy calvary. The Cavaliers of Blackhand would ride again. The House of Blackhand flourished within the walls of Winterfell, but Venner, now serving as a Knight in Winterfell, felt the call of Inethria again. Venner sent his wife, Elizabeth, now pregnant with their first, and sadly last son, to their homelands to regain what they could of the Kingdom. Elizabeth died in childbirth in the homeland and Venner did not live to make the trip home, dying of a broken heart and old age.

The only heir to the throne, Venner Blackhand, grew up under the tutelage of great men. Lord Targaryen had also returned to the homelands to find a great throng of the kingdom still intact. The House of Kithrin and Balcombe maintained their unwavering allegiance despite the years of separation from the Crown. With the rightful heir returned, the kingdom once again flourished and established itself as a power, both in mercantile and military fields.

Lord Blackhand, now older, wished to visit the lands of his father and establish a colony in the lands. He returned alone, leaving Lord Targaryen, Lord Balcombe and the Knights of Kithrin to maintain peace in the lands in his absence. He returned to the lands once known as Northwood and scoured the lands for any sign of his father or of Winterfell. Only the slowly decaying stronghold of Winterfell remained, its empty halls and rooms the only remnant of this once proud nation. Venner found good men and women to join the House of Blackhand and declare their allegiance to him. Slowly an army was built and a small town of Newenden established. They weren’t without their problems. Regular attacks from pirates and troublesome locals forced the house into refuge, creating another home in Windmeder. Venner received word from home that his mother was indeed alive, that his return was necessary. He silently slipped onto a ship in Vesper and returned home to see if it was true. Upon his return home he discovered foul play at hand. Despite the good men at the throne, some of the descendants of Aidenfel were causing trouble in the farmlands, demanding their false right to the throne be honored. The note sent to Venner had been a trap, and had not the Knights of Kithrin been there to rescue the king at the docks the Blackhand line might have found an end that day.

Venner, sad to have left his father’s land, sent Lord Joseph Balcombe to establish a colony in the lands near Yew. Lord Blackhand wished to remain close to his father and found an outlet in trade established by the Knights of Kithrinwood and Joseph Balcombe.

Soon word returned of trouble with the Black Rose, of fields being burned and people killed. Venner was distraught. His finest and most honorable men, among them the great Malidian and Caleb of Kithrin, were being threatened and maltreated in Yew.

Venner quickly ordered the unexpected and impossible. The Kingdom of Inethria, in its entirety, would be moving to the new lands. Ships were loaded, gold secured, and men readied to come to the aid of his trusted friends. Venner and Rothgar Targaryen were among the first to arrive and settle the new city of Enden, based around his father’s old home. Finding no resistance, they quickly established borders and alerted the knights that the Kingdom of Inethria was once more in the lands.
