Instead of watching the litter mounds rise, and our problems escalate, my small team of keen anglers at kingfisher Piscatorials have been actively doing our little bit to help. I have been teaching children fishing for just over a year, and from the outset I wanted to teach each of them the importance of looking after the creatures that live on the water as well as those that live beneath the waters surface. As part of my teachings, I arranged a visit to the Swan Sanctuary based in Egham, the reason for this visit was to open the eyes of these young children on the dangers of leaving litter and the effects it has on wildlife not just Swans but Ducks Geese and Foxes Badgers etc that live on or near the waters edge. The Thames at Walton is a litter black spot and the Swan Sanctuary sadly see a number of birds damaged in the Walton area every year. So we spent Sunday afternoon picking up litter that had been left by careless people. I would like to stress that not all this litter is left by Anglers. Other river users must also take a good look at themselves, Walkers, Cyclists, Boat users all leave litter. But every angler has a duty to protect the environment that he/she uses. The children from my club Kingfisher Piscatorials have learnt a great deal by doing this Litter Pick, now I hope that every angler reading this, will just take a moment to think about the consequences of there actions Steve Gray N.F.A Coach Kingfisher Piscatorials. |
Walton Bridge Area The First three swims directly below Walton Bridge are the locals favorites, before the marina entrance or above the bridge on the green can also produce. Don't forget to pick up any litter, not just your own but other anglers as this spot was once listed as a black spot. It was great to see the juniors from Sunburys kingfisher Piscatorials picking litter here, as seen in last weeks Letter page, with local papers and Egham's famous Swan Sanctuary also biggin up the kids. Now that's positive publicity. |

This is a letter from the Angling Mail to all at Kingfisher Piscatorials "Well done to all of you at Kingfisher for working so hard at the River Thames litter pick. Efforts like yours make a difference immediately and also remind others - like the walkers and cyclists - that litter is ugly and dangerous to wildlife. Urge your friends to take rubbish home with them and bin it. Once again, top marks from Angler's Mail. Enjoy your fishing!" TIM KNIGHT ANGLER'S MAIL. |
