I owe a great deal to this man; his passion for angling was fantastic
He wrote a number of fishing books, but the one that a stand out for me is Mr. Crabtree goes fishing. My father bought me this book when I was a child and it really is a wonderful read, many lovely pictures of Mr. Crabtree and his son on fishing trips over the season.
Sadly he passed away this year, 2001 but his memory will live forever.
Bernard Venables painted some of the most evocative angling images and drew perhaps the most inspiring angling pictures of all time, but it is as the creator of Mr. Crabtree that he will be most remembered. The book has sold over two million copies and inspired a whole generation of anglers.
