Kingfisher Piscatorials |
Our History |
Here is a brief history of The Kingfisher Piscatorials Well what a year, I could not have foreseen such progress. I shall never forget that day back in June last year, when I invited the children of the ODC, to chat about fishing. That day I was amazed to see so many children and adults sitting before me. I could see from the look on their faces, that I had a real chance of doing some good. Not everyone had been fishing before, and to be fair I have never taught before. So we had to meet a number of challenges over the coming months. We started with the children using my fishing tackle, apart from Ben, Jamie & Andrew who did have a small amount of tackle. We did not have a venue to fish, apart from the free stretches of the Thames. So on that day in June we started our very own fishing club. At first we were part of the ODC youth club, but as time progressed it become much easier for everyone, if I moved away from umbrella of the ODC, and set up my own club. This I did and I named the club Kingfisher Piscatorials. From very humble beginnings we are now a fully functional club. We now have a great deal to be proud of. We have eight children members (I am hoping to expand in the future) We have two Coaches (One Fully Qualified Coach).(Steve Gray & Rob Allen) I qualified as a coach back in November and I am one of only 100 in the country So for a club of our size to have an NFA coach, is quite amazing really. Also we have a full time helper (Linda Gray). We now have a large amount of Fishing Tackle that I have managed to get from a number of places, these include a number of tackle manufactures. Thank You I have also built up links with the Editor of the Angling Mail, I am hoping he will be doing a feature on the club in the near future (Litter Pick Day). We have been to the Swan Sanctuary based in Egham, as part of the conservation work the club has been involved in. I am very proud of the fact, we are the only fishing club ever to visit the sanctuary. On the conservation theme I am also very proud that every membcr of the club is also a member of the ACA. We are about to undertake a full summer of events. Many of which will take place at a private lake in Sunbury For those who fished their last year, I sure you will agree that it is a very good venue. The cost of fishing this water is £3.00 per session, but I have managed to get us on the lake for free. Then of course, we have the big one. The Weekend Away, it has taken some seven months to plan, and it really is close now. I shall also be running a course called the Kingfisher Award. This award carries a badge and a certificate from the NFA, I shall be sending out more details on this course shortly, It is open to everyone, but I shall be running it in groups of 3. Dont forget that young Alex is still the proud holder of the trophy for the biggest fish. I am hoping that the trophy will change hands a few times this year. |
