Reaction to the alliance An Alliance with groups which forced through the late 80s ban on lead Shot will doubtless sit uneasily with some anglers. But at the EAs Baroness Young told the sport when last year cormorant report finally surfaced, the way to preserve our status is by pursuing report the conservation agenda sence last weeks announcement. The NFA along with the other members of the National Angling Alliance, have introduced national coaching schemes which include modules dealing specifically with environmental issues, declared NFA national executive member Ian Epps. There are in excess of 400 coaches across the country educating anglers of all abilities on the care of wildlife and the countryside. We will press for partnerships between councils, their local angling clubs, and the EA to work together at council-owned free fisheries for the benefit of wildlife, continued Hampshire based Ian. Peter Martin of the NCWSW, said This report contains some very uncomfortable facts which demand action. It also indicates a problem which many believed had been solved in the late 80s is still very much with us and this too must be addressed as a matter of great urgency. It is encouraging to note there is a greater willingness to work together to find ways of resolving these difficulties, he conceded. EA fisheries office, Adrian Taylor said, we are delighted the study has brought anglers and swan welfare interest groups together to find solulations. Our aim is to see a reduction in the number of reported incidents, without placing undue restrictions on angling. We do not see total bans as solutions for the problem sites. RSPCA wildlife office Chris Booty said, Now is the time for anglers, the EA, local councils and other agencies to work together to limit the damage. Clean up operations could be staged at blackspots, fishing areas could be separated from popular feeding areas. |
