In the first scene of Act 1 the king has many issues to deal with. He is first challenged with the growing problem of the scots and Hotspur. The king also has to deal with his own feelings towards his son, Prince Henry. the king is not happy with Hal because he doesn't take responsibility of his high position. The king in turn respects Hotspur's valiant deeds. In scene two Prince Hal portrays himself as a friend of many trouble makers and law breakers. He is a friend of Falstaff but they continually try to match wits with each other. Prince Henry reveals to the readers that he is using his friends until the time is right for him to show hisseriousness so he will look like a greater person and leader when it is most unexpected. In scene three Hotspur is the most prevalent character. When speaaking to the king, he shows his determination and valiantness in getting what he wants. When the king denies Hotspur of ransoming Mortimer he becomes ever more determined by planning a league against the king. |
