What is next for King Kong ?

I know it’s been a long time since I have updated the web site but I am finally doing it now. I am in the process of writing new material for our next album. Be patient fellow Kongoleans. Music is like fine wine. One must not drink it before it’s time. -hey, there is a song right there- I’m also a lazy-ass. I’ve always been that way. The cover art is done and I won’t give it all away but the concept for this album is going to have something to do with beans. Get it? What do beans mean anyway? Pinto beans, kidney beans? Beans don’t mean anything. That’s the point. This next album is going to be an anti - concept album. Like a bunch of beans on a table top. Anyway we are going to tour in November with the focus being Canada. Canada is my favorite country and I’ve always wanted to play there. We will probably hit Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. Sorry, we won’t make it to Old Crow, Yukon. Maybe next time. Canada is like the USA but with common sense. I love it. Since our regular female singer, Amy Partin has been living in Colorado we have a new songstress named Suki. We can’t afford to take her on the road right now but come see her in Louisville. Expect tour dates to appear on this web site soon.

Who are you ?

My name is Ethan Buckler. I am the founding member of King Kong.

What is King Kong ?

King Kong is a band.

Why is your band called King Kong ?

Because in 1988 I wrote an essay for my friends about how King Kong represents my philosophy of life and I decided to call my new band King Kong. You know the story. King Kong was a movie from the 1930’s about a giant ape that lived on a primitive island where he was worshipped by the natives and then the white people came and captured him and took him to New York where he escaped and climbed the Empire State Building clutching a blond girl named Fay Rae in his paw. The story isn’t so important as is the whole idea of King Kong. He’s big, primitive, natural, supernatural, funky, freaky, hairy, misunderstood, brutal, gentle, evolutionary, passionate, African, and tragic. Just like our music. We play it funky, funny, repetitive, rythmic, melodic hypnotic, serious, mysterious, bluesy, emotional and conceptual. Our concert should make you feel like you are one of the those natives who are performing an ancient ritual dancing under the torchlight to manifest the spirit of King Kong into a physical reality.
Are there others in your band ?

King Kong started out as a three piece rock band. The group has been through a number of incarnations since including female vocals, organ, congas and now our latest non human edition, a computer. Would you like to be a part of the Kong ?

Where are you located?

I live in Chicago to be close to our record label, Drag City but we are still a Louisville band at heart. One could say we are a dual city’s-ship band. But we also tour all around the USA and Europe. Next month we will travel to New York where I can stand in the shadow of my alter ego’s favorite climbing post, the Empire State Building.
