“Absolute Supremacy” Chapter 1
“Get Her Back”
It is a beautiful spring morning and we come across two young women sitting in the Park talking,
“You know Laney you have always been my best friend, you have always stood by me no matter what and I want you to know that no matter where I go I will always remember you.” Nori tells her, looking down at her hands folded in her lap.
“Nori why are you telling me this, you’re not going to do something stupid are you?” Laney asks her.
Laney Kaley Tohoshi and Nori Nanba Mutsu have been the best of friends since grade school; both girls came from very wealthy families in their area, growing up sharing their hopes and dreams with one another, their sorrows, and their tears. Nori was a few years older then Laney, and the two girls were more like sisters then friends. Laney knew that Nori was not happy in her home life, and has tried a number of ways to escape it with failed attempts. Laney Kaley Tohoshi grew up with a loving family that was always there for her and her brothers, where Nori Nanba Mutsu grew up in an empty home having only her younger bother to raise, while her Father and Mother were more involved in their own lives then to have to deal with Nori and her brother.
“You know I am seeing a new guy?” Nori asks Laney, looking up at her.
“Do not change the subject Nori, what are you thinking about doing?” Laney ordered her to tell her.
“I am moving out of Father and Mothers… Senichi is old enough to take care of his self now and you know I hate living there.” Nori tells Laney.
“Where do you think you are going, don’t you even tell me you are moving in with this new guy you have been seeing.” Laney looks at Nori.
As Nori turns her head so not to look in to Laney’s eyes, “I have no other place to go Laney.” Nori tells her.
“NORI, you do not even know this guy. You have only been out with him a few times, do you even know where he lives.” Laney exclaims.
“It does not matter where he lives Laney, I want out of that house.” Nori says, looking back at her with tears in her eyes.
“Oh Nori,” Laney says taking Nori’s hands into hers, ”I know you hate it there and you want to get out, but can you hang in there a little longer. I have one more year at school and then we can get a place together, like we planned to,” Laney tells her.
“I can’t, Laney I am going to go crazy in that house if I do not get out soon, and not only that, Haru wants me to go with him and be part of his life.” Nori says.
Laney did not have a thing for taking and was very straightforward. She likes to say things bluntly and regardless whether it hurts their feelings or not, she would be the one to say it.
“Haru wants you to be part of his life, well what about the life you have now, with me and my family are you just going to run off and forget about us.” Laney demanded to know.
“Laney you know better then that, I would never walk away from you or your family. Besides Senichi, you and your family are the only real family I have.”
Nori squeezes Laney’s hand and smiles, “Do not worry about me, I will be fine, and I will see you almost everyday I promise you. I want to try to make a life with Haru, I really like him he is very sweet and seems to be well brought up, and I think he comes from money like us.” Nori says smiling.
Her friend did not know what to say, Laney is willing to offer anything possible to her and yet Nori was saying no.
“Nori, I am worried about you since you have been seeing Haru you really have not been your self, are you sure this is what you want to do?” Laney asks her.
“What do you mean not yourself?” Nori smiles at Laney as they get up.
“Well you seem to be more distant and keeping more to yourself, are you sure this is what you want?” Laney had a worried tone; Nori looked at her best friend her eyes were of no comfort for Laney.
“And to make it worse, you are not the Nori I used to know, you use to tell me everything,” Laney placed her hand on Nori’s shoulders as comfort.
“I understand and I will make sure you are the first person I tell if I was to get in to trouble.” Nori showed assurance in her voice to soothe Laney’s emotions.
The girls start to walk back to the cars, as Nori got to her car; her driver opened the back door and guided her in.
“Laney I will see you as soon as I get settled in at Haru’s place I promise, I will not lose touch with you.” Nori says as she climbs in the car.
Laney did not want to say anything, she just watches Nori’s car drive off in to the distance. Laney got into her own car; she needed the speed to relax her mind. She blasted her music in her Ferrari and sped off. Anger was flowing in Laney’s veins, she knew what Nori was doing was wrong and she was powerless to stop her.
“Why can’t I do anything?!” Laney slammed her hand against the steering wheel almost driving the car off the road, as she was not paying any attention.
“She has everything and now she is blowing it all away because of this one guy! For crying out loud I don’t even like his name!” Laney was shouting to relive her anger. She pressed her foot on to the accelerator to get more speed.
Eleven Months Later:
“You’re crazy! But I hope you know what you doing.” The Ferrari’s wheels screeched against the road as Laney put her foot down and drove in to the distance.
“What do you mean you won’t feed us Paul, we are starving?!” Ginji cries as he drops his head down on the table.
“Quit being a cry baby Ginji.” Ban tells him.
“Natsumi sweetie, can you make us a pizza,” Ban says to her.
“You heard Paul, Ban you and Ginji have to pay your tab here first, and then we can start serving you again,” Natsumi tells him.
Ban growls under his breath, “We are going to starve, I tell you.” Ban cries out.
Just then, they hear the bell ring as someone comes walking in to The Honky Tonk cafe. “Hello Ma’am,” Natsumi says to her.
“Hello,” the young woman tells her giving her a half smile.
Ban and Ginji watch the young women as Natsumi seats her at the counter, she is a very attractive young women about her early 20’s very well build, and long flowing brown hair, and brown eyes, you could see she had a lot on her mind.
“What could I get for you Miss?” Paul asks her.
“A cup of tea would be nice, and could you tell me please, if I could find two young men in here by the names of Ban Midou and Ginji Amano, they say those two run a recovery service.” The young woman asks Paul.
Paul points over to Ban and Ginji as they are getting up from their seats at the table where they were sitting,
“That’s them right there.” Paul tells her. The young woman turns to look at the two boys getting up from the table.
As they approach her Ban puts out his hand, “I am Ban Midou and this is my partner Ginji Amano,” Ban says to her as he points to Ginji standing next to him.
“What can we do for you Miss?” Ginji asks her.
She pulls a picture out of her purse looking at the two of them as a tear rolls down her cheek and whispers, “Find her, she has been missing for 10 months now, find her and bring her home to us again.” She tells them.
Ban takes the picture from her so he and Ginji look at it, “So who are you her sister?” Ginji asks.
“No, she and I are best friends, but we are so close we may as well be sisters.” She tells them.
“So what is her name and yours?” Ban asks her.
“I am Laney Kaley Tohoshi and she is Nori Nanba Mutsu,” Laney tells them.
“Whoa, you mean to tell me you and her are the daughters of –?” Ginji started to say as Ban cut him off with one of his cold looks.
“Sorry we cannot help you, go to the police and file a missing person’s report they will find her for you,” Ban tells her handing her the picture back and turning his back on her walking back to the table.
“We have, they cannot find her any where, and I and my brothers have even been out looking for her as well. Someone told my brother that they had seen her around The Limitless Fortress.” Laney said.
“The Limitless Fortress?!” Ginji said in a very shocked tone. Ban stopped walking to the table when Laney said this.
“Please will you help me find her, money is no object in this case, and I will pay what ever you ask. Just bring her home to us.” Laney pleads with Ban.
Ban turns and looks at Laney, “You’re sure she is in The Limitless Fortress?” Ban asks her.
Laney hangs her head, “That’s only what we have heard; no one I know can get in there to find out.” Laney says.
“So you have no other clues of where she might be?” Ginji asks her.
“I saw Nori, 11 months ago. She was a mess, the guy she moved in with turned out to be a sick bitch and abusive, what made it worse is that he would beat her every chance he got, no matter what she stayed there! Then I found out she finally left him and then she went to her Father for help and he turned his back on her because she left home cutting her off as well, so she was without everything. She moved in with me for a short time then one day I found this letter on her pillow when I went to wake her the next morning,” Laney said handing a note to Ban.
“I couldn’t believe she could do something like that, I mean I gave her a place to live and now she has gone I feel alone in such a big place.” Ban opened it reading it aloud,
“Laney,
Thank you and your family for everything that you have done for me. I will never forget what you all have done nor will I ever forget you or your family. If I am ever to make something of myself or my life, I have to do this on my own.
When I was with Haru, he opened my eyes to worse things in life then what I was living with at home. I do not want to have to rely on anyone to live or survive in this world. I hope you will forgive me for taking the coward’s way out and leaving you this note and not facing you to tell you this, but I know I am weak right now and you would have been able to con me into staying, so I thought this was the best way to handle this.
I will contact you soon, I promise.
Love you, your best friend,
Nori Nanba Mutsu
“Have you seen her since this letter?” Ginji asks Laney.
“Yes, me and my older brother where in town one day and saw her.” Laney says, as she puts her hands over her face, “She looked horrible, she was wearing rags and looks as if she had not eaten in weeks, when she saw me and my brother she ran off from us. Zacky ran after her but she got away from him.” Laney added.
“You have not seen her since that day?” Ban asks her.
“No, I did get another letter from her about 2 months ago. It was so strange, I wanted to bring it as well, but I could not find it anywhere.” Laney told them.
“Do you remember what it said?” Ban asks her.
“Something about her being fine since the last time me and Zacky saw her and not to worry about her, but then she started talking about strange things like her being cursed and some guy named Kyouji that has taken her in, and opened her eyes to what she really is,” Laney said.
“Kyouji! Did she tell you the rest of this Kyouji’s name by chance?” Ban asks her.
“I think so; it was all in that letter that’s why I wanted to bring it here with me.” Laney says.
Just then, as Ban is about to ask Laney another question about her friend, Kazuki and Juubei walk in the door of the Honky Tonk, “Hey guys what’s going on, it has been some time since we saw you last.” Kazuki says, as he and Juubei walks up to Ban and Ginji.
“Guys I am talking to a client here please in a few minutes all right,” Ban tells them. Kazuki and Juubei take a seat at the bar behind them.
Ban looks at Laney again, “Is there anything else you can remember from the letter she sent you?” Ban asks.
Laney looks at Ban and then Ginji, “No, I cannot think of anything else that was strange about it,” Laney says.
Ban sits down on the bar stool next to her looking at the picture again, “A young woman this attractive would never make it through the night in The Limitless Fortress.” Ban says.
“Well she did,” Juubei, says leaning in to look at the picture, which Ban was holding.
“You have seen her in The Limitless Fortress Juubei?!” Ginji exclaims.
“Yep sure have and she is one mean Bitch, she is Kagami’s girl-”
“Kagami!” Laney stood up almost knocking her cup of tea over.
“That bastard!” Laney’s fists clenched together, she took a deep breath and sat back down again. The guys around her looked confused.
“So I take it that you know Kagami?” Ban looked at Laney, he was trying to make eye contact, but she would not look at him.
“Of course I know him, but I don’t want to go in to detail. But if she is with him, then I am willing to come.” Laney’s emotions were not under control, one minute she would be crying then she would be angry as hell and now she is crying again.
“Why would she end up in The Limitless Fortress though?” Tears streamed from Laney’s eyes, she faced Juubei and Kazuki again wanting more answers.
“Kagami lives in Babylon City there, from what I heard. He found her on the street and took her in, something about her spirit being kindred or something like that, I only caught like bits and pieces of the story as Rin and Gramps were talking about it,” Juubei said.
“The only thing I know is I ran into her at the belt line the other day, not sure what she was doing out of Babylon City, but any way.”
As Juubei pulls up his sleeve, “She cut me, did not look to me like she had anything on her, and still after she cut me I looked at her again I still seen nothing she is fast to… faster then you Ban.” Juubei tells him. “I tried to get her with a set of my needles and it was like they went right through her she moved so fast,” Juubei said.
“Maybe she was an illusion, you know like the mirror tricks Kagami pulls.” Kazuki says.
“I wish, she got right up behind me and put her hands on my shoulders and whispered in my ear, and I know that was quite real.” Juubei told them.
Ban sat there looking off into space, “Kagami found her in the streets… saw she had the kindred spirit and took her in and taught her how to use it, if she is not careful with it, it can be fatal to her life.” Ban says, then whispering to his self, “She is one of the last children like myself.”
“What was that Ban?” Ginji said. Ban shakes his self from thought, looks at Laney, and says, “Miss Toshoshi, we will take the job and we will find your friend for you and bring her back to you.”
“Thank you,” Laney said, “You do not know how much this means to me knowing that you can help me out.” Laney stood up as Ban held out his hand but then a sudden shock trailed up her back, Laney collapsed on to the seat behind her grabbing for her breath.
“Miss, are you ok?” Ginji called to her, but Laney was not paying any attention to whom and what was around her.
“Laney?” Ban shook her a bit to try to get her attention.
Laney suddenly snapped out of it and looked at Ginji who was now in front of her. Laney blinked a couple of time trying to get her vision back.
“Sorry,” she began “I have been getting this way lately, I don’t know why…” Laney held her head and started to walk out of the café.
“Are you going to be ok, going out in this state?” Ban questioned her.
“I’m fine, do not worry about me, just find Nori ok?” Laney smiled and walked out of the café, her brown hair trailed behind her leaving a scent, which made everyone linger for a bit.
“Well,” Ban broke their daydream “We have a job to do, let’s go.” The boys walked out the café in search for Laney’s lost friend.
“We will find her, won’t we?” Ginji asked Ban as they walked outside.
“Let’s hope we do…” Ban left his words to trail; they got in to their car started to head towards the Limitless Fortress because that is their beginning point and may become one of their last.
