"Battle of Nori Nanba"
Chapter 10

The sun is barely peaking over the hills and Nori Nanba, her mother, and her Grandmother are awakened by her Grandfather's voice.

"All right, you old hens, it is time to roll your fannies out of bed so Yoshi and Nori can get home, let us eat and get going," he says. "I have brought food and transportation to get them home sooner, so let us get moving."

Nori Nanba gets up and goes to the well to get water to wash with, as everyone is in the house is getting up and moving around.

She can hear them laughing and thinks this is the way a family should be, "Thank you Grandfather for letting mother come home and making us a family again."

She looks up from the well into the forest; the sun is barely up so it is hard to see. Nori can see something coming out of the mist of the trees.

“Is it, no it cannot be?” Nori thinks to herself; as the object gets closer. “It is him, Lord Sesshomaru!” she steps back not sure, if she should yell for her Grandfather or see what he wants, “But if I wait to long as fast as Sesshomaru is, I will be dead before I can scream for my Grandfather.”

He is soon right in front of her and has a hold of her arm before she can move again, "I do not want to die, please do not kill me Lord Sesshomaru." she says to him.

"So you are a Goddess." He says to her. She looks at him, unable to speak.

"Release me from your spell!!" He demands, "And I will spare your life."

"I... I do not have you under my spell." She says to him.

"How can you say that," He says to her.

“Because I know the men I have under my spell and you are not one of them." She tells him.

He grabs her arm, pulling her close to him, "PLEASE," She begs him, "I am not lying to you. I know you do not believe me, but it is true. I have only two men under my spell at this time and you are not one of them you have to believe me, PLEASE," she begs of him again.

Looking her in the eyes, he knows she is telling the truth, "How can that be?" He questions, "I cannot stop thinking about you and I can feel your every thought and feeling within me."

"I do not know why." She tells him, "I only know it has something to do with you.”

“Something to do with me?" He questions again he wonders what that could be.

"Please, if you want I will use the reverse spell on you, but I am afraid you will see that it will not work." Nori tells him.

Still holding her close to him, he does not hear what she says he is lost in her eyes. “Her beauty draws me to her, why?" He says to himself, "I cannot fight it any longer, I want her I need her."

As he pulls her closer, still looking into her eyes, he goes to kiss her, but her Grandfather walks out the door, calling her name, stopping him.

"He is gone! What just happened?" she asks herself, "Was he going to kiss me?" Very confused, she walks back to the hut where her Grandfather is standing.

"There you are." He says, "We were going to start without you if you do not get in here soon."

"Yes, Grandfather," she says, walking inside the hut in a daze.

When they finish their breakfast, they pack up their things and walk out of the hut for the last time. Climbing on to the flying dragon her Grandfather had brought them to get back home on she turns to look back at the well once more.

“He was trying to kiss me, I am sure of it; he was going to kiss me!!” As she smiles, her mother breaks into her thoughts.

"Nori dear have you ever been on a flying dragon?"

She looks at her mother, "What kind of question is that mother? Sure at least two or three times a day." She says to her looking at her like ‘You are kidding, right.’

"Well now," She says, "I think I detected a little bit of sarcasm in your voice there."

Nori laughs, "Well mother, think about it were would I get a flying dragon from?"

Her Mother laughs as well, "I guess your right that was an unnecessary question, huh. Well then they are like riding a horse, but these guys fly." Her mother says.

"Good, I will follow you lead me home and I will be right behind you." Nori tells her.

"All right," Her mother says and they take off into flight on the dragons. All the way home she could think of nothing but Lord Sesshomaru trying to kiss her and wishing her Grandfather would have never come looking for her.

Meanwhile, Lord Sesshomaru shows back up where Jaken and Rin are waiting for him to return. Jaken running up to Sesshomaru yelling, "My Lord, my Lord, Rin is very sick and very hot to the touch. She has these funny looking red spots all over her body; she has eaten nothing for the past two days and sleeps all the time."

Sesshomaru goes over to Rin touching her, she feels like she is on fire, he thinks as he is looking at the spots on her body saying, "What was the last thing she had to eat Jaken?"

"I am not sure my Lord that child eats everything, I cannot keep track of it all." Jaken tells him. "We need to get her some help from a human doctor my Lord, I am afraid she will not make it if we do not."

Sesshomaru, looking at Jaken, "Your right but who can we trust?" He says.

Jaken starts to ramble on talking about the village just down in the valley not far from there.

Sesshomaru not hearing a word of it remembers Nori Nanba, “She healed Inuyasha, she can treat Rin and save her as well, and I feel she can be trusted.”

He picks up Rin and calls, "Jaken, Au-un, come we are going."

Jaken running behind him saying, "But my Lord the village is this way, you are going the wrong way."

"We are not going to the village." Sesshomaru tells him.

"Then where are you going, my Lord?" Jaken asks.

"To Nori Nanba's village.” Sesshomaru says.

"Whom my Lord, who is this Nori Nanba," Jaken asks.

"A human doctor I can trust, she is also a Goddess, and she will know what to do for Rin." He tells him.

"A human that is a Goddess, my Lord how can that be that is forbidden." Jaken says.

"I do not know Jaken, but she is a Goddess, I know this."

“A half-breed Goddess?” Jaken questions in his thoughts “Can this be what has had Lord Sesshomaru so upset the last few months? He has been acting quite strange lately. I hope he is right for the young woman’s sake, if she cannot save Rin, Lord Sesshomaru might cut her down where she stands.”

Yoshi and Nori Nanba finally make it to their village, her father running out to greet them happy to see them both, "You made it just in time for lunch." Her father says.

They go inside putting their things away and sit down at the table to eat. As they are eating, a young warrior comes to their door looking for her father.

"Please," he says, "We need your assistance, the doctor we have is overwhelmed with the wounded and he needs your help."

Noir looked at her father and mother and laughed, "Never ending" She says to them, "You two go I will be fine here by myself, we can catch up when you come back, we have the rest of our lives together now, thanks to Grandfather."

Her mother and father go get the things they need from the medical room, her father tells her she will need to go in to the village to get more supplies for the medical room and to pick more herbs.

“I have left some for you, but not much.” He tells her.

"All right father, I will take care of that as soon as I clean up here. Now go." She says to them, "They need you." They give hugs and they are gone.

Nori Nanba turns around looking back at the table with three plates on it, she smiles, "We got the rest of our lives," she says.

She starts to hum her favorite song as she cleans up, when she is finished she gets the basket they use to pick herbs with and heads off to the forest.

When she gets back to the house, she says, "I need to hurry it is getting late. I need to get into the village and get everything else." She goes to the medical room, makes a list, and is on her way to the village.

While she is in the village, everyone greets her telling her hello and welcome back. She is so happy to be back. As she is walking down the road she thinks, “I have never felt so good before, about anything, I know how to control my powers now, my mother and father are back together so we can be a family again, I know my Grandparents, and I was almost kissed by the man...” She stops as she sees someone walking into the village.

“Lord Sesshomaru?!” She says aloud.

As she looked down the road, she could see him. “Sesshomaru, what is he doing here and what is he carrying it looks like a child, could this be the child Rin that Kagome and Sango told her about the human child that travels with Sesshomaru?” Nori says.

She watches him make his way down the road as the people step out of his way to give him room to get through.

Sanako and Haru walk up to Nori, "Who is that?" They ask.

"Lord Sesshomaru," Nori Nanba says to them not taking her eyes from him.

"You mean..." Sanako says.

"Yes," Nori says, "The same."

He walks right up to Nori Nanba and looks her in the eyes.

"She is sick and I cannot help her, I do not know what she needs; will you help her."

Nori Nanba looks at Rin touching her cheek, "She is burning up," Nori Nanba says she looks at her little arm that is just hanging down beside her. She takes Rin's arm in her hand pushing her sleeve up to reveal a red rash all over it, she hurries and hands her packages to Sanako and pulls her dress open to see her chest is covered as well.

"This child has Scarlet Fever, I... I!" Looking into Sesshomaru's eyes, she can see he cares for her very much.

"Follow me." Nori says to Sesshomaru walking off.

Sanako walking up to Nori, "Nori Nanba she has Scarlet Fever you may not be able to save her."

"I have to try for her sake and his, I have to try. She is only a child." Nori exclaims.

Sanako replies, "If she was older she might have a chance, but she is so young."

Nori Nanba stops and looks at Sanako, "I have to try Sanako!"

"What happens if you cannot save her?!" Sanako exclaims to her, "If she dies he might blame you and then where will that leave you."

Getting mad at Sanako, she turns and says again, "I HAVE TO TRY!"

As they enter into the medical room, she tells Sesshomaru to put her on the bed. Nori starts to mix a medication that will bring down her fever.

She looks at Sesshomaru and tells him, "I will do my best to save her, but she has Scarlet Fever and there has not been too many people that have lived to tell about it."

He looks at Nori Nanba not saying a word to her he just sits there. As she walks over to give Rin the medicine, she asks him, "How long as she been like this?"

Still not saying anything, she looks at him again.

"Look, if you want me to help her I need to know this, so please tell me!"

He says, "It started about a week ago she had been coughing then she quit eating and she was sleeping almost all of the time."

"Her fever, when did her fever start?" Nori asks him.

"I do not know." He says, "I was away from her then, Jaken," He called, "When did her fever start?"

"About two days ago," Jaken said, "She just kept getting hotter and hotter as the days went on I tried to keep her as cool as I could, but I did not know if I was doing it right."

“Two days ago!” Nori thinks “What am I doing, can I save her, is it to late, has the fever set in so bad that she may not make it, if I do not save her will he kill me?” Nori pauses and starts to get angry with herself. “What am I thinking, I am Haruki Gojo's daughter of course, I can save her, I have to try at least, and I know I can do it.”

Looking at Sesshomaru, she tells him, "I need water I will be right back,"

"Wait" he says as she goes to leave the room.

"What?" she asks.

"Thank You," he says to her. Nori smiles at him and walks out.

As the hours drift onward, the night turns back into day and the day turns into night once again. Nori Nanba is still by Rin's side changing the cloths on her forehead and body to keep her cool, fighting the fever that seems like it will never end. Giving her medicine every four hours to help with the fever as well, she feels drained and ready to drop. She needs a break even if it is for a few minutes. Just as she thought that, Haru walks into the medical room.

"Haru," she says with a sigh of relief, "I am so happy to see you." Sesshomaru watching him making sure he makes no sudden moves.

"Nori sweetie, you look as if you are ready to drop." Haru tells her.

"I need more water," she sobs, "I need to get her fever down and this is not working." As Nori starts to cry.

"Now, now," he says, "Here I brought you something to eat have you eaten at all in the last couple of days?"

"No," she says, still crying.

"Here eat this it will make you feel a little better at least." Haru tells her.

"I cannot I have to keep changing these cloths on her as soon as I get them all changed I have to do it again. She is so hot the cloth is as hot as her by the time I get them all changed and I have to start over." Nori tells him.

"Sounds to me like you need a tub of cool water to sit her in… Wait!!" Haru exclaims. "I have an idea."

He runs out of the room and comes back a few minutes later with a small watering trough for the horses.

"What are you doing with that?" Nori asks.

"We are going to make a cool bath for her to sit in to get that fever to break and then you will not need to change the cloths so much."

Nori looks at him, "Haru that is a great idea."

Haru sets the tub next to the bed and goes to get water for it. As he fills the tub, Nori Nanba makes more medicine for Rin; she comes back over to Rin to give the medicine as Haru brings in the last bucket to fill it and a few more to keep it cool. Haru starts to pick Rin up to place her in the tub as Sesshomaru jumps up from where he was sitting.

"Whoa big boy!" Haru says to him, "I am only trying to help her I am not going to hurt her all right, you can sit back down."

Nori Nanba walks over to Sesshomaru, placing her hand on his arm and tells him, "He is only trying to help, I cannot do it all."

Sesshomaru looks at her; she can see the worry in his eyes. He is afraid he might lose Rin and he is tired, but she knows he will not rest until he knows Rin is all right. Haru sets Rin in the water and Rin lets out a whine, Sesshomaru turning his eyes to Haru.

"She is all right it is just the cool water on her body with her being so hot." Nori tells him. She walks over to Rin and Haru and starts to place the cloths on her again.

Haru saying, "Why are you doing that she will be cool enough in the tub of water without all those rags on her?"

"She cannot get chilled Haru that is just as bad as the fever, if she gets to chilled her body will go into shock and the fever will kill her for sure." Nori tells him.

"You got your hands full sweetie and I am praying for her and you to make it through this." Haru says to Nori.

She smiles at Haru, "Thank you," she says, "We need all the help we can get right now." Nori Nanba looks over at Sesshomaru his eyes are glued to her.

She smiles at him, "She will be fine," she says. “I hope.” She says to herself.

Haru sat with Nori Nanba for almost the rest of the night, helping with water and medicine.

Morning finally came once more and Rins fever has gone down, but not enough. “It's been three days, is her fever ever going to break?” Nori questions. “And where did Haru get off to, I need something to eat I am starving.”

Just then, she notices Sesshomaru is not sitting in his usual spot, “Now where did he go?" She thinks, "I do not even remember seeing him getting up and leaving."

As she goes to get up, she stumbles almost falling as someone grabs her arm, she looks up, it is Lord Sesshomaru, "Are you all right?" He asks her.

"Yes, I am thank you for your help." Nori tells him.

He looks at her handing her food. She smiles at him he gives her a half smile in return. She walks over to the counter to make more medicine for Rin. She turns to look at Sesshomaru, he is next to Rin running his hand over her hand, “Did he smile at me, well if you want to call that a smile.” She says to herself, “And look at him with her, he loves her very much. How can what Kagome and Sango said be so true, if he hated humans so much, how can he love little Rin?”

Nori goes back over to Rin, Sesshomaru moves out of her way, "You are fine.” She tells him putting her hand on his shoulder. “I can work around you she needs you right now, just stay where you are."

He looks at Nori Nanba, giving her that half smile again.

“He did try to smile at me.” She smiles back at him.

Just then, Rin opens her eyes, looking up at Sesshomaru.

"Lord Sesshomaru," She says in a weak little voice.

He smiles at Rin saying, "You will be fine you need to rest, you can talk to me later when you are well. Nori will take good care of you."

“He called me Nori and Rin spoke to him has her fever went down some more in just the few minutes I have stepped away from her.” Nori Nanba touches Rin she looks at Sesshomaru with a smile.

“Take her out of the water her fever has went down some more and I does not think we will need the tub any longer.” Sesshomaru picks Rin up from out of the water laying her in the bed.

"Now as long as we keep her cool and continue the medicine her fever should keep going down. She is not out of the woods yet." she tells him, "But it is a step in the right direction."
