"Battle of Nori Nanba"
Chapter 3
Nori Nanba is in the house having breakfast with everyone. She is thinking of everything she has been through the last few days and everything that has happened over the last few years as well. She wonders when her father will be home; she wants answers to all her questions and hopes he will return soon.
"Will I ever know what is going on with me, what am I doing to these men to make them act like this, can I stop it, or is this just something that happens and there is really no way to control it."
Her thoughts are broken as Kagome ask her, “Nori would you like to go into the village with us to pick some things up that we need.”
She smiles at her telling her, "Yes, I would love that," hoping it will help get her mind off everything.
While in the village, picking up what is needed. The eldest women of the village approach Nori Nanba. She says to Nori, “Come with me child. I need to speak with you.”
Nori Nanba looks at her in confusion. The old woman tells her it is about her mother. She goes with the women to a teashop and they sit, and the old woman starts to tell her the story about her mother when she came to their village in search of a man. She now has Nori Nanba's full attention.
The old woman started, "Your mother is a Goddess of great beauty and no man could resist her she had every man in the village following her like a lost puppy dog. They could not help themselves. She had the power to make any man fall in love with her. They would do anything for her once she had them under her spell, they would even kill for her."
Nori Nanba shocked at this ask, "Why would she have them do something like that."
"For her love," the old woman said. "She toyed with the men and had her way with them for her enjoyment. With the men under her spell, they were helpless to do anything to stop them selves."
"Why didn't the women stop her, I mean these were their men of the village," Nori Nanba ask.
"The women were afraid of her, not sure, what she would do to them."
"So what of my father, was he under the spell of hers?"
The old woman laughs, "Your father was different from the other men for some reason the spell was not working on him and this infuriated your mother. I believe it did not work on your father because he was trying to become a great doctor and that was all that man could think of was medicine. Your mother tried very hard to capture your father's heart under her spell, and by doing this she released the other men in the village from her spell."
Nori Nanba looking excited, "Therefore, the spell is reversible?" Nori Nanba ask her,
"Yes child, the spell can be reversed, from what I have seen it can be reversed. Her beauty still captivates the men but they are normal and not love sick fools."
"So how did my mother get my father to fall in love with her? If her spell would not work on my father, how did they come about to being together and having me?"
"Your mother followed your father everywhere trying to cast her spell upon him. She was to the point of binding him to her."
"Binding him," Nori Nanba asks.
"I think she finally got her spell to work on him, but not before, she fell in love with him."
"Therefore, you are saying my mother did love my father."
"Oh, yes child your mother loved your father very much. When she was taken away from your father, we all thought it was going to be the end of her, and him as well you were around one year old when that happened I do believe."
"Who took her away?"
"Your Grandfather took her away, her father."
"Why would he do such a thing to them," Nori Nanba asks her.
"Because your father is human and she is a Goddess and that sort of thing is forbidden."
Nori Nanba very upset at this says, "Nevertheless, they were in love with one another, and what about me, did my Grandfather not care that they had a child together? I am his grandchild as well."
"He was very upset at his daughter for what she had done," the old woman says.
"Done, what had she done, she fell in love with a human man and had a child, what was so bad about that?"
The old woman continues, "As I said, that sort of thing was forbidden, love between a human and Goddess was not a thing that was suppose to happen and you my child are half human and half Goddess or better known as a half-breed."
Nori Nanba is very upset at this point. "Nevertheless, it is love, how can loving someone be so wrong or forbidden no matter who you share it with. I cannot understand this," she says. "Therefore, my mother left with her father."
"Yes, she did," said the old woman, "And the tears in her eye's fell like the rain from the sky."
"Did she ever come back to see my father or me?"
"Not that anyone here knows of," the old woman says.
"Therefore, if I was one year old when she was taken from my father and me, it has been…” Nori pauses.
"Yes, child it has been twenty-five years since we all have seen your mother."
Nori Nanba hangs her head as a tear falls upon the table. She looks at the old women... "How do you know all of this?" Nori asks looking at her.
"Your mother and I were good friends.” the old women replies.
"You and my mother were friends!" Nori says shocked.
"Yes, you find that hard to believe." She asks Nori.
"Well, yes you are so much older than my mother is." Nori replies.
The old women laughs, "She confided in me. All the women in the village confide in me."
"Why is this?" Nori Nanba asks.
"Well I guess it is because I am so much older then them and when they need advise they figure I can help them with their problems." She told Nori.
"Therefore, my mother came to you for help." Nori said.
"Yes, and when I lost my husband, she came and checked up on me from time to time, we would sit and have tea and talk." The old women said.
"Did she ever tell you about her powers that she had?" Nori asks her.
“A little, but not enough to help you out with what you want to know!" The old woman tells her.
"Could you tell me what she told you about them?" Nori says as it sounds like she was pleading with her,
The old woman looks at Nori and tells her, "I do not know if what I know will help you child."
"Please," Nori Nanba says.
"Alright then," says the old woman, "She told me that her power lies within her eyes, when she makes eye contact with the men she thinks to herself what she wants them to do, by doing this it puts the thought into their mind of what she wants."
"Like falling in love with her?" Nori says.
"Yes or anything else, she wishes them to do, she did tell me however that once she had the man under her spell and bind to her there was no reversing it, the man or men would be hers forever."
"But, I thought you said the spell could be reversed," Nori Nanba says.
"Yes, the spell can be, as long as you do not bind them to you." The old woman says.
"Did she ever tell you what could or does happen if a man is in love with you and you did not cast the spell on them, they just made eye contact with you?" Nori sounded frantic.
"No," says the old woman. "That is all she told me about her powers."
Nori Nanba happy with the little information she gave her stood up from he chair, “Thank you, what you told me was insightful.” Nori turned and started back to her home.
It has been five days since the old women told Nori about her Mother and ten days since she has met Inuyasha and the others. Nori Nanba finds herself thinking of what the old woman has told her and the encounter she and Lord Sesshomaru had in her room.
"Where could he be why has nobody seen him, Inuyasha told us yesterday that he thinks he has moved on because he has not picked up his scent for days. Could he have left?" She thinks aloud wondering if she will ever see him again.
While she is thinking of this, she hears Kagome, Inuyasha and the others outside arguing. She gets up from where she is setting and goes outside to where they are talking.
Hearing Sango and Kagome, “Inuyasha, Miroku we need to get back to searching for the jewel shards and Naraku. We have been at Nori Nanba's now for ten days.” Kagome tells them.
As the two of them voice their opinion about leaving, Nori Nanba walks up saying, "The girls are right you need to get back to your travels and find the shards."
Miroku looks over at her he ask, "And what of your safety, what if Sesshomaru shows up again."
"Inuyasha has not picked up on his scent now for three days, I would have to say he has moved on," Sango says.
Inuyasha standing silent looks at all of them and says, “I am staying!”
Kagome growling under her breath, “If you are not ready to go by midday, we are leaving and you are coming with us like it or not. You are being difficult and Nori Nanba will be fine."
Nori Nanba is wondering why Kagome has become so cross, she looks at Inuyasha, him standing there with his arms crossed and a scowl look on his face, she walks over to him placing her hand on his arm, and saying, "Come with me Inuyasha."
They start to walk away. Kagome grumbling and huffing walks off the other direction.
"Inuyasha," Nori Nanba says. "Why will you not go with your friends, they need you."
"Because you need me here," he says.
"No," she says looking at Inuyasha, "I will be safe; you need not worry about me. I want you to go with Kagome and the others, they need you more then I do, I promise you, I will be fine and if it makes you feel any better, you can come by anytime to check on me or just come by to see me. You are all welcome in my home any time."
She walks up to Inuyasha placing her hand on his cheek, "You all have been very good friends to me and stayed with me in a very difficult time in my life, but Kagome and Sango are right it is time for you all to leave. You have much more important things to tend to then me." She looks into Inuyasha's eyes, "Go with them Inuyasha please, I will be fine."
Inuyasha placing his hand over hers on his cheek with a sad look on his face, he asks her, "Do you care for me Nori Nanba?"
Not knowing exactly what he is asking, she tells him, "Inuyasha I care for you as a friend and nothing else, I hope you do not think of me as anything else but as a friend."
Inuyasha looking at her confused, “I think I am falling in love with you.”
"That is why you need to go Inuyasha. You are not in love with me you only think you are, what you are feeling is false and I do not know how to release you from this. I do believe if you leave here and do not return for a while, you will return to normal and these feeling you have for me will leave you."
Looking at Inuyasha she remembered what the old woman said about looking the men in the eye's and thinking about what you want them to do. She started to think looking deep into Inuyasha's eyes, "You want to leave Inuyasha, you want to go with your friends and not worry about me, go, and come back when your friends want to return," she repeats this many times in her mind never losing eye contact with Inuyasha.
Her concentration broke when Miroku said, "What are you two doing over here, you going to stand there staring at each other all day."
Looking away and then back at Inuyasha, she wonders if it worked. Miroku walks up asking, “Are you really going to stay behind?”
Inuyasha looking over at Nori Nanba then back at Miroku saying, "No, I will be going with you, Kagome, Sango, and Shippo."
Shocked, but happy to hear this Nori Nanba says, "You have made the right choice Inuyasha, your friends need you more, then I do."
When the three of them were walking back to where Kagome, Sango, and Shippo were, Miroku asks Nori Nanba what she said to Inuyasha to get him to change his mind, "Kagome has the hardest time getting him to change his mind and you did it in a matter of minutes."
She tells Miroku, "I only told him the truth, which I did not need him here anymore and he needs to go with all of you."
As they find Kagome and Sango. Kagome says, in a very jealous tone, "So what did you two talk about," giving Nori Nanba a scowl look. Nori Nanba knowing that Kagome is getting jealous of her by the way Inuyasha is acting.
"Inuyasha is leaving with us when we go," Miroku says to her. A look of relief and joy comes over Kagome's face. Nori Nanba stays away from them, and waits for the morning to move into midday.
She wonders when her father will return, "It has been many days since he has been home and I am starting to miss him. I want to talk to him and tell him of all the activities that has happened since he has been away, I hope he can answer the rest of my questions that I needs answered.”
Her minds drifts off, the thought of Lord Sesshomaru is back, she feels such a desire to be with him to touch him just once more, "Why do I have these feels for him?" she asks herself, "These feelings erupting inside of me. I need to touch him again his soft cool skin, the desire so deep in my soul just to hold him in my arms until the feelings subside, to look into his eyes and let him know that I will never hurt him."
Thinking of everything, she has been told about Sesshomaru from Kagome and the others she does not understand why she feels these feelings for him, a killer, and a demon as well. "Why," as she clutches her chest as to keep the desire locked inside of her, she thinks; "It calls to him, I know it does, I can feel it, I can feel him. Why does he not come back to me?"
Sango walks up to her startling her, "Are you all right," she says, "I did not mean to frighten you. You looked lost sitting here I thought I would see if you needed someone to talk to, and to let you know we will be leaving soon, I thought you would want to say Good-bye."
“Thank you," she says to Sango, "I was just thinking of Lord Sesshomaru when you walked up to me. Sango tell me something."
"Sure if I can," she says to Nori Nanba.
"Do you think it is wrong to love someone that is different then yourself?" Nori asks her.
"What do you mean by different," Sango asks.
"Well humans and Gods or even humans and demons, anything that really makes two people different from one another." Nori says.
Sango looks at Nori Nanba and says, "No I believe that there is nothing that makes us different, only our thoughts and if two people are in love they should be together, be they are Gods, demons or humans, they say love is blind and I do believe that, because true love knows no indifference. The people that have never known love judge the ones that do know love."
They smile at each other as Sango gives Nori Nanba a hug, knowing that what she said is what Nori Nanba wanted to hear from her.
Sango and Nori Nanba walk back to the house, so Nori Nanba can say Good-bye to everyone. They see everyone else walking out of the house with their things; Nori Nanba starts feeling sad that her friends are leaving. She knows that it is best for Inuyasha and Miroku to get away from her so the spell that has been cast over them can be broken, at least that is what she hopes will happen while they are away.
Telling them all Good-bye and giving hugs to each of them, telling them to be careful and good luck with their journey. She waves at them as they walk away, once again feeling alone.
