“Curse or God Sent” Chapter 11
‘Getting What You Want’

The next day Nori was up and outside the Inn before the sun was up. She was sitting on a bench out in front, as she heard someone call out to her,

“Did you ever go to bed last night?” Nori turns seeing Laney walk toward her.

“You’re up early.” Nori tells her turning back.

“Nori…” Laney says in a concerned tone then pausing. Laney walks over to her and sits on the bench next to her looks at her as Nori stared out into the forest.

Nori finally turns looking at Laney saying, “What?”

“Sanzo told me why you are doing this and I do not want you to do this for me.” Laney tells her. Nori shakes her head looking back out across the village.

She chuckles under her breath slightly saying, “A little late for that Laney and why do you worry. At least you will be normal again if I do not make it back. My life is nothing I will always be cursed even if the demon curse is lifted from me my days are still marked and limited the curse of The Last Children will have me dead soon.” Nori tells her turning to look at her as she smiles.

Laney looks upset at Nori as she tells her, “I do not want to be normal if it means I am going to be without you Nori.”

Nori still smiling as she places her hand on Laney’s hand she tells her, “You have Hakkai now Laney you do not need me any longer.”

“That’s not true Nori you are the only family I have left and I will always need you no matter who comes along.” Laney said.

Nori laughs at her saying, “You mean to tell me that you would miss all the times you had to worry about me or fights you and I got into over stupid things. You would miss all the times I made you cry because I was to out of control with my powers and ended up getting hurt.”

“Yes and I would miss all the times we have sat up all hours of the night talking about getting married and having kids and raising them together. The type of guys we would be married to and what we were going to do with our lives and lying in the grass at night looking up at the stars wondering if there is really someone or something out there better for us and all the stupid things we have done together and got one hell of a laugh out of…” Laney pauses taking Nori’s hand in hers squeezing it tight she adds, “But I would miss you the most.”

A tear finds it way down Nori’s cheek as Laney hugs her, tears trickling down her cheeks as well.

“I would miss you too Laney.” Nori tells her.

“Then can we go talk to Grandfather and have him lift this curse without a fight?” Laney asks her.

“And what if he does not lift it?” Nori asks her.

“Then we walk away.” Laney says.

Nori gets to her feet looking down at Laney she exclaims, “You just want to walk away after all this time and all the effort we have placed into this, I cannot do that Laney.”

“Nori we can go with the guys until we find a place to settle down. They can go do their quest and then come back to us or hell we can even go with them and help out, they like the extra company.” Laney says.

“Laney I cannot do that I have come this far it has been years since we have been home and you are telling me now that we have made it here you want to give up if Grandfather says no he won’t lift the curse.” Nori says.

“I do not want to lose you Nori and I am afraid if we face Grandfather that is what is going to happen.” Laney tells her.

Nori starts to walk away from Laney upset at her for giving up on their quest as she says to Laney, “I won’t do it if Grandfather says no he is going to have a fight on his hands. I am not walking away without some kind of satisfaction from this.” Laney hangs her head as she sit at the bench hearing Nori’s last words to her as she disappears into the morning mist.

A few hours later Nori is sitting outside at the temple on the front steps waiting for their Grandfather to show his face.

“So you did come to see me after all I thought you would back out.” A voice says to her. Nori gets to her feet turning to see her Grandfather standing at the alter inside the temple. Nori walks up the few steps going into the temple to face her Grandfather. When she gets in the door way her Grandfather smiles at her saying,

“You look like your Grandmother.”

Nori not happy with him says in a fowl tone, “Why did you curse our Mothers?”

“Because they where meddlesome females that were not heading my words. I warned them that your Fathers were my sons and being with them was forbidden.” Her Grandfather told her.

“So you cursed them and us because they fell in love with one another. Sounds to me like you were acting out like a little child would when he did not get his way over something.”

“Your parents knew that love between a God and a human was forbidden and they went against me anyway. They knew what would happen to their children if they had any.” Her Grandfather said.

“So instead of punishing them you punished our Mothers and Laney and I instead. Sounds like something a God would do. It benefited you so you curse us and your sons to go free and unpunished. Why does that not surprise me that you would do something like that?” Nori says.

“I did not curse you it was what you were born into they knew what you would become when they had you two.” Her Grandfather said to her.

“What do you mean they knew what we would become?” Nori asks him.

“You and Laney are not cursed by me or any God. You are heretics you are not born of a God and you are not born of a human. You are both which makes you dangerous.” He tells her.

“So you are telling me that you never cursed Laney and me?” Nori asks him.

“You are my Grandchildren and even though I did not concur to what my sons and your Mothers were doing I would not curse you for that. You two would carry a much heaver mark then any curse I could ever set on you.” He tells her. Nori laughs, as she starts to walk closer to him. He backs up a step as she steps right up in front of him.

“I am not your grandchild I am an eye sore to you and all Gods alike. If you all had your way about it I would be in chains in a cell in your so called heavens rotting away to nothingness until I was dead, which in my case would not be long.” Nori says to him.

He starts to laugh at her as he says, “You will live a long life Nori you and Laney both as long as you do not go getting yourselves killed.” He tells her.

She steps closer to her Grandfather as he steps back again from her. Nori shakes her head saying, “Why do you keep backing up from me? You are a God do not tell me you are afraid of me.”

He looks at her smiling as he tells her, “I know you hate me and I can feel your rage toward me. I know what you are planning on doing if I did not lift the curse from you and Laney, but I am sorry to disappoint you. There is no curse you were born this way and there is nothing I can do about it. If you must be mad at someone take it up with your parents they made you what you are, not me.”

Nori stands in front of him as a tear makes its way down her cheek she says, “You lie…I know you are. You are just trying to get away with something you know you did with out repercussion for your actions.”

“Am I… maybe you should ask Sanzo about it or should I say Konzen Douji.” Her Grandfather tells her. He pauses looking at Nori as her look on her face changes from sadness to anger once again.

“He would be able to tell you a few things about Goku and another one just like you and Laney which was born of a God and a human his name was Homura. Sanzo and his friends did away with Homura not to long ago.”

Nori places her hand to her head looking down at her feet confused thinking to herself, “Homura was the one God Sanzo told me about, but Grandfather says he was a heretic like he says Laney and I are. I do not understand this.”

She looks up at her Grandfather as he stands there the look on his face is a look of honesty and truth, “I do not lie to you child what I am telling you is the truth.” He tells her.

She steps back from him and turns looking out the door standing there in a land of confusion as her thoughts race in her mind.

Meanwhile Gojyo walks into the guys room, “Where is Nori has anyone seen her since last night? I cannot find her anywhere around here.” He says.

“I have not seen her since the temple incident.” Goku says. Laney sits there in her own little world looking out the window.

“I have not seen her since you drug her out of the room yesterday.” Hakkai tells him.

Sanzo looks over at Laney saying, “Laney have you seen Nori this morning? You two do room together after all.”

Laney looks over at Sanzo as a tear trickles down her cheek, “I could not talk her out of facing Grandfather. She said she had nothing to live for since the curse of The Last Children was killing her. She is determined to get Grandfather to lift the curse on us if she has to die to get him to do it.”

Sanzo gets to his feet walking over to Laney grabbing her arm lifts her from her set at the window saying, “When did she say this to you?”

“This morning when she and I talked out in front of the Inn,” Laney says as she cringes to Sanzo’s grip on her arm.

“Let her go Sanzo you are hurting her!” Hakkai says standing up as well. Sanzo looks over at Hakkai giving him a cold look.

He turns back to Laney asking her, “What time was this Laney?”

“It was before the sun was even up. I do not know I just know it was early. Let go you are hurting me Sanzo.” Laney says pulling away from him. Sanzo releases Laney as he stands there for a second thinking he turns walking from the room.

“Sanzo wait for me I will go with you.” Goku yells after him.

“Where does he think he is going? He dose not even know where she could be right now.” Gojyo says.

Laney and Hakkai look at one another and then at Gojyo as Hakkai said, “The temple… she is waiting for her Grandfather I am sure of it.” Hakkai and Laney run from the room.

Gojyo stands there looking around he slides his hands into his pockets and walks from the room saying, "Everyone is in such a hurry to die today. Not me I still got money to spend from the poker game last night.”

Just then Hakkai pokes his head around the corner of the door yelling at Gojyo scaring him to death, “COME ON GOJYO NORI COULD BE IN TROUBLE!!” Gojyo picks up his pace following behind them.

The group gets to the street and they run off toward the temple, as they draw closer to the temple they see Sanzo and Goku a little ways in front of them going up the stairs. They pick up their pace catching up to them.

"Sanzo what are we going to do if he is already in there with her?” Hakkai asks him.

“That I do not know. Let’s just hope he has not told her they are not cursed.” Sanzo says to him.

Laney grabs Sanzo’s arm jerking him around to face her saying, “What do you mean we are not cursed?”

“I am not saying you are not cursed Laney, but from what I have seen and from what I know you and Nori may not be cursed, you both may be a heretics.” Sanzo tells her.

“So Laney and Nori are like me? Goku says shocked as his eyes widen.

Laney looks at Goku confused saying, “We are not a creature of the earth.” Laney looks back at Sanzo, “We are human…”

“You are not human and you are not Gods.” Sanzo tells her turning starting back up the stairs, “So there for you are heretics.”

Laney runs past Sanzo stopping in front of him saying, “So what does that mean?”

“It means there is not a curse to lift and if Nori does not believe him she will try to kill him and when she does and she has not changed after his death. She may go into a rage that we will not be able to stop.” Sanzo tells her, “So do you mind moving so we can get to her before this might happen.” Sanzo pushes Laney from in front of him as he walks past her to the temple.

When they reach the entry way to go into the temple they can hear Nori and her Grandfather talking to one another, “Why did our Mothers not tell us this? Why would they hide it from us?” They hear Nori asks him.

“Why not blame it on someone else why would they want you to know they messed up and made you two freaks.” He told her Nori shakes her head yelling at him again,

“NO YOU LIE!!”

“Who are you calling a freak?!” Goku exclaims at the same time walking farther into the temple.

“You stupid little monkey!” Sanzo exclaims.

“He called us freaks Sanzo!” Goku exclaims turning and looking back at him.

Sanzo now walking into the temple followed by the others he says, “So they are heretics, there was never a curse placed on them?”

“No Sanzo and you should know as well as I do when a human and God have a child this is what happens to their children.” Her Grandfather said.

“Yes I know this, but I also know the Gods and their petty games they like to play. So it was not a call I could make at the time.” Sanzo tells him.

“So you knew that Laney and I had a chance to be heretics and you did not say anything to me?” Nori exclaims.

“I said it was a call I could not make without the facts first and even if I did tell you this you were so hell bent that it was a curse you would not have believed me if I would have told you.” Sanzo tells her in an irritated tone.

Nori walks toward Sanzo saying in an upset tone, “You could have said something to me about it or at least Laney and Laney could have talked to me.”

“No one was going to change your mind Nori you were dead set that this was a curse and no matter what we said you were going to get your Grandfather to lift it even if you had to kill him and yourself to get him to do it.” Sanzo tells her.

Nori turns looking at her Grandfather. Then back at the group of her friends Laney stands there as a tear rolls down her cheek as she steps forward looking at their Grandfather she says,

“So we are not cursed?”

“No like I told Nori I did not like what my sons were doing with your Mothers, but I would never curse my grandchildren the mark you would carry would be much heavier then any curse I could or would place on you two.” Their Grandfather told Laney.

Laney looked confused questioning him, “What do you mean heavier then a curse?”

“Being a heretic means you have no place to belong with being a demon you live with demons, being a God you live with Gods and with being a human you live with humans, but when you are a heretic you are neither so you have no place to belong.” Sanzo says.

“And no one trust them either you are dangerous and can become uncontrollable in your fits of rage.” Their Grandfather told them.

“So now we have no where we belong, before we at least thought we were human with a curse. Now we are nothing…” Laney says looking at Nori. “Is this what you meant when you said you were nothing and your life was nothing?” Tears stream down her cheeks as Laney looks at Nori. Nori was not able to answer her as she too started to cry.

“You belong…” Goku calls out to them. They look toward Goku as he says again, “You belong with us and you belong to your family and you belong to one another. Those are something you will always have the most important things if you ask me.” Goku says.

“And no matter what your Grandfather tells you, you have people that love you and that is all that matters, do you really need a place to belong to actually belong.” Gojyo says.

“It is only what your heart feels that truly matters. If your heart tells you, you belong then that is were you belong and nothing can change that.” Hakkai tells them.

“If you truly believe you need a place to belong then you have more problems then being heretics. Like Gojyo says you have people that love you and your heart tells you what is right or wrong for you, it will never lead you astray if you truly listen to it.” Sanzo says.

Nori and Laney look at the guys then back at their Grandfather as they wipe away their tears, “I am sorry Grandfather for believing the lies I was told as a kid about you and I hope you forgive me for my actions here today and what I was planning on doing.” Nori tells him.

Their Grandfather walks toward them as he touches their cheeks wiping away another tear that found its way from their eyes.

“I know the pain you have been though all your life of growing up. Just because you never seen me does not mean I do not see you.” He tells them.

“So why did you let us go on believing these lies?” Laney asks him.

“Because what does not kill you only makes you stronger, life is rough and you should never take a single day for granted you never know when it might be taken away from you.” He told them smiling.

Nori smiles at him looking over at Hakkai as she starts to laugh she looks back at her Grandfather saying, “How true that is and from here on out I plan on living my life like there is no tomorrow to it.”

Sanzo walks over to Nori placing his hand on her lower back looking at her and then her Grandfather, “I think we need to be going so Yukihiko here can do what is needed of him.” Sanzo says.

“It was good seeing you again Konzen Douji it has been a long time.” Yukihiko tells him.

Sanzo turns Nori and starts to walk from the temple saying, “Sorry Yukihiko, but for me it has not been long enough.”

Yukihiko starts to laugh as he replies, “Same old Konzen as always.”

Sanzo and the others walk back to the Inn as Goku asks Nori and Laney, “So what are you two planning on doing now?”

Nori looks at Laney and smiles as she says, “Anything our hearts desire.”

“And that is?” Gojyo asks.

“Well maybe… If you’re lucky… we might go with you guys for a while.” Laney says.

“I think I would like that.” Hakkai says wrapping his arm around Laney looking over at Sanzo asking him, “What do you think Sanzo do you think we have room for two more?”

Sanzo smiles pulling Nori close to him, “I think I would like that very much.”
