Chapter 8


Later that night Shiraishi is walking back to her room after dinner. She walks past her Father’s office as she hears him call out to her, “Shiraishi come here please.” He says.

Shiraishi stops turning around walking back to his office door, “Yes Father you called for me?” Shiraishi asks. Shiraishi sees her Grandfather sitting in front of her father’s desk.

“GRANDFATHER!!” Shiraishi exclaims running to him she drops to her knees in front of him laying her head on his lap as he patted her head, “Grandfather when did you get here?” Shiraishi asks him.

“A little after noon today, I flew in as soon as your father called and told me that someone had stolen the Jewel.” Her Grandfather said.

“Oh Grandfather it is so good to see you it has been so long, I have missed you so much.” Shiraishi says as she rises from the floor to give him a hug.

“Yes my child it is good to see you as well.” He tells her.

Shiraishi sits back on the floor in front of her Grandfather as he tells her, “You’re Father and I need to speak with you my dear. It is about the jewel and what you are going to have to do once you get with it.” Grandfather tells her.

“Yes Grandfather I remember you telling me once long ago when I was young.” Shiraishi tells him.

“Do you now, well do you remember what you will have to do to get the curse to stay in tact with the jewel once they start to break the curse.” Her Grandfather asks her. Shiraishi looks at her Grandfather and nods. “Well then child tell me so I can see how much of the tale you know.” She looks at her Grandfather then gets up setting in the chair across from him.

“You told me once the tamer was joined with the jewel that a spell had to be cast upon the tamer and the jewel to break the curse, but the tamer could stop the spell.” Shiraishi told him.

“Yes continue,” He said.

“Well to stop the spell the tamer had to pull herself from this world, taking her soul away from this and to a safe haven.” Shiraishi tells him.

“And have you found your safe haven for your soul?” Grandfather asks her.

Shiraishi hangs her head saying, “No Grandfather I have not found that place yet.”

“I do believe you have dear you just have not realized it yet.” Her Grandfather tells her as he lifts her head looking into her eyes.

“Grandfather?” Shiraishi says to him. Her Grandfather looks over at her Father “Could you leave so I may talk to Shiraishi in private, Son.” He nods at his Father as he gets up from his seat leaving the room closing the door behind him.

Shiraishi’s Grandfather stands lifting Shiraishi from her seat walking her to the window in the office. He stands behind her as they look out into the night sky as the stars shine bright. Her Grandfather wraps his arm around the front of her across her shoulders when he points out the window into the night sky he whispers to her,

“He loves you very much and he is willing to make great sacrifices for you.” Shiraishi looks out into the night looking at what her Grandfather is pointing at as she sees Dark pass in front of the moon.

She gasps for air as she quietly calls out, “Dark…”

Her Grandfather chuckles, “Did you think you could hide him from me. He is a curse to the Niwa family just as the jewel is a curse to our family. He is your safe haven and he will keep you and the jewel safe from any harm that may come your way. Stay with Dark and give him your love he will not forsake you Shiraishi.” Her Grandfather told her. She turns looking into his eyes as he smiles at her.

“Go to him Shiraishi he is waiting for you.” Her Grandfather told her.

Shiraishi hugs her Grandfather as a tear trickles down her cheek, “Grandfather does Father or Mother know about Dark?” She asks him as she pulled away from him.

“No they do not and they will not, because of what Dark is they will never find out unless you decide to tell them.” He tells her.

“Thank you Grandfather…” Shiraishi says as she runs from the room to go see Dark.


Once Shiraishi gets to her room, she walks in closing the door behind her. She sees Dark land on the balcony as he looks at her smiling. Shiraishi quickly starts walking toward him as she slides the door to the balcony. Dark walks toward her as she steps out into his arms. She lays her head on his chest hearing his heartbeat and Dark asking her, “Shiraishi are you alright?”

She looks up at Dark and smiles, “As long as you are with me I will always be alright Dark.” Dark smiles back at her as he pulls her close to him kissing her.

“I will always keep you safe Shiraishi; it would kill me to lose you.” Shiraishi and Dark stand out on the balcony talking and looking out at the stars as Dark holds her in his arms. Shiraishi shivers, “Are you cold Shiraishi?” Dark asks her.

“Yes a little but I do not want to go in I want to stand out under the stars with you and talk.” Shiraishi tells him. As Shiraishi was telling him this, she saw, Dark’s wings encircle them. Shiraishi looks back at Dark.

“Are you ok with this for me to keep you warm? I know you are uncomfortable with them.” Dark says to her.

Shiraishi smiles at him and says, “This is fine.”

They stand there looking into each other’s eyes as time felt like it was standing still, Shiraishi looked deep into Darks eyes. She felt like she was being pulled into his very soul Shiraishi closed her eyes and when she opened them she could see Dark and Afton stand next to one another as Afton waves at her and Dark gives her a smile. She shakes her head closing her eyes again when she opens them she sees Dark again standing behind her with his wing wrapped around them. Dark smiles at her as she turns her head laying it back on his chest she looks out at the stars again feeling Darks arms around her and his wing encircling them making her feel like she was the safest person in the world.

“Did you see that Dark it was like she was part of us. I thought that was so cool have you ever had anyone do that before?” Afton exclaims.

Dark laughs, “No I have never had that happen to me before. I think she knows about us now Afton.” A big smile comes across Dark and Afton’s face as Dark embraces Shiraishi pulling her closer to him.

Shiraishi nuzzles her head into Dark’s chest as she sighs closing her eyes, “I found it Grandfather…I found my safe Haven.” She caresses her hands down Darks arms as he holds her.


A little over a month later we find Shiraishi and Dark in the park spending the day, “Dark look what I have found?” Shiraishi says to him as she runs toward him. Dark looks up at Shiraishi as he sits on the ground in the park. He sees her walking toward him with two ice cream cones in her hands.

“Ice Cream and I thought maybe you found something really good.” Dark says laughing at her. Shiraishi walks over to him chuckling as she sits next to him handing him an ice cream cone.

“Ice Cream is good isn’t it Afton?” Shiraishi says.

“Yes it is… so if you do not want it Dark let me have it.” Afton tells him.

“I do not think so Afton, Shira got this for me and I am not sharing.” Dark tells him aloud.

“Now Dark be nice to Afton.” Shiraishi says.

“I am always nice to Afton, huh Afton?” Dark says.

“Well there was that one time…” Afton started to say.

“Oh what ever… that was your fault Afton.” Dark says.

“It was not.” Afton says.

“It was to.” Dark says.

“No it was not!” Afton repeated. Shiraishi started to laugh at them as Dark looks at her, and starts to laugh as well.

“We sound like a couple of little kids don’t we?” Dark says.

“I still cannot get use to you two like this. You would think with me being with you now for the last month and a half I would be use to this by now.” Shiraishi says still chuckling slightly at them.

“Afton said do not worry about it he thinks his Mother still is trying to get use to it.” Dark tells her.

Shiraishi chuckled more as Dark looks at her saying, “Tell me Shira your birthday is a few more weeks away what do you want?”

Shiraishi stops laughing, as she looks at Dark, “What do I want? What would I need, I have everything I ever wanted right here.” Shiraishi tells him.

“Really are you sure about that?” Dark asks her.

“Yes I am, I have you right now, and that is all that matters.” Shiraishi tells him as she gives him a big smile.

Dark reaches out and takes her hand as he looks into her eyes, a serious look over comes his eyes and face, “Dark are you ok?” Shiraishi asks him.

“Shira you know that I…” Dark started to say.

Shiraishi’s eyes start to sting as tears start to fill them. She quickly looks away from Dark getting up from where she was sitting and walks away from him. “I do not want to talk about that Dark. I know what will happen once we get the jewel back and I just do not want to think about that right now. I have you with me now and that is all that matters to me right now.” Shiraishi forces a smile on her face as she wipes the tears from her cheeks she turns looking back at Dark.

Dark stands going to her, “But Shira…”

“No Dark, I will not let you do that to yourself. I will carry you in my heart now and forever no matter where you are. I will never ask you to do that. So please do not bring it up again.” Shiraishi tells him.

“But Shira…” Dark says as he places his hands on her arms turning her to face him, “I want to do it for you, not just for you, but for me. You are forgetting you are not the only one that will lose someone they love once I am gone and I can see it in your eyes that you want me to stay as well, but you will not cast the spell for me to stay with you.”

“And I never will… I am sorry Dark I love you more then life it’s self, but I will never cast that spell for you to give up your powers so you can be with me.” Shiraishi tells him as she pulls away from him walking toward a tree next to them.

“But I will get them back when the next Niwa boy is born.” Dark tells her.

“But you will have to live a normal life for the next 40 or so years or maybe longer until that happens or until you die.” Shiraishi says as she turns looking at him.

Dark walks toward her, reaches out, and takes her hand into his arms, “I do not care Shira I want to be with you. Please on your 18th birthday cast the spell for me to stay with you. I love you far too much to leave you behind.” Dark tells her. Shiraishi turns away from him taking a step forward.

“Shira please look at me?” Dark tells her. Shiraishi turns around looking and seeing Dark and Afton standing next to one another.

“Shira, Dark loves you so much and we want this for you and him, but the only way we can stay apart is for you to cast the spell. Look I know you think it is a bad thing, but I know how much it hurts Dark to hear you tell him no and that you will not do this for him and you.” Afton tells her.

Afton walks toward Shiraishi as he touches her arm Shiraishi looks into his eyes, “Dark is like my older brother and at first I was against this, but the more I thought about it the more it seemed right. Not for just you and him, but me to, because Dark will always be here for me as well. I do not want Dark to leave me either Shira, just like you do not want him to leave you, but I cannot release him like he wants, you have to do it, only your love for Dark… can release Dark from me.” Afton says. A tear rolls down Shiraishi’s cheek as she looks over to Dark.

Dark walks up to Shiraishi and takes her in his arms pulling her close to him. “I would die for you a thousand times over Shira if I had to and I know if I was gone our heart’s will never let us forget one another, but the hurt that we will feel while we are apart is too much to bare. I want to live with you and die with you at an old rip age. I do not care about losing my powers, once the jewel is back safe were it belongs I will not have to worry about anything for a very long time to come. Therefore, my powers being gone will really be no big deal to me, but you… You are a big deal to me and I never want to leave your side Shira.” Dark says. Shiraishi’s cheeks are wet from tears as Dark pulls her back from him, “Tell me Shira… Tell me you will do this for us and I will forever be by your side.”

Shiraishi smiles at Dark as she wipes away her tears, “If I do this, you know I would have to do it before you found the jewel.” Nori tells them.

“Yes we know this…” Dark says.

“But you have to stay with Afton until the jewel is safe with the tamer. Once that has happened Afton and you would separate and you would disappear until the next Niwa boy was born.” Shiraishi tells them.

“So you have to cast the spell for Dark to separate from me before we get the jewel back safe and with you? But that would make us unable to get the jewel back.” Afton says.

Shiraishi looks at Dark then over to Afton she gives an uneasy smile at them both saying, “Yes that is true, now you see why I do not want to cast the spell. If Dark does not have his powers getting the jewel back will be imposable for you.”

“I have a question that I have been wondering about for sometime now since we all started talking about this and the separation spell you can cast to separate us.” Afton says.

Dark and Shiraishi look at Afton waiting for his question as he looks at Dark saying, “What about Krad? What will happen to him?”

Dark’s eyes widen as he looks at Afton and then Shiraishi as Shiraishi exclaims, “KRAD?! I know that name… Why do I know that name?”

“You know Krad?!” Dark asks in a panic stepping toward Shiraishi.

“I am not sure, but the name seems so filmier to me.” Shiraishi says.

“Try to remember Shira. He is a tall, blonde, white wings, white jacket, his eyes…” Dark was saying as Shiraishi cut him off saying, “Are yellow… a deep golden yellow.” Shiraishi looks down at her hand as she lifts it to look at it. Seeing the ring, he had placed on it.

“Krad where are you?” Shiraishi says softly as she looks down at her hand.

Dark and Afton stand there in shock as they heard Shiraishi call to Krad as she had known him for sometime.


Shiraishi’s thoughts were interrupted as she heard her brother call out to her.

“Shira!!” Nakamura yells to her from across the park. Shiraishi, Dark, and Afton look out toward him as they see Nakamura and Krad walking toward them. Dark and Afton quickly become one again.

“IT’S KRAD!!” Dark yells.

“Dark what should I do?” Afton says.

“Keep him away from Shira, Afton. Do not let him near her.” Dark says. Nakamura and Krad walk up to Shiraishi and Afton slowly. Shiraishi narrows her eyes at Krad looking at him.

“Hello Shiraishi,” Krad says to her, “It has been a long time.” Krad takes her hand when he gets to her and kisses it. A big smile comes across Shiraishi’s face as her memory of Krad comes back to her.

“Krad it has been a long time where have you been hiding yourself, I have missed you?” Shiraishi says to him.

“SHE MISSED HIM… WHAT!!! Afton did you hear that she has met Krad before, but where… she has been with us the whole time.” Dark says. “This is not good Afton, not good at all.”

“Yes I have been gone a little too long. I have missed you very much as well.” Krad tells her.

“What do you say you tell your friend here good bye and you and I go catch up?” Krad says.

Shiraishi turns looking at Afton as Afton hears Dark yell out, “NOOOOO SHIRA!!”

“Afton I am sorry but I would like to spend some time with Krad here do you mind if I call you later?” Shiraishi asks him.

“UMM…” Afton says.

“STOP HER AFTON…STOP HER!!” Dark yells out.

“Well Shiraishi what about what we were doing we need to finish that don’t you think?” Afton says to her.

“What we were doing? We were only talking.” Shiraishi says. Afton looks into Shiraishi’s eyes seeing the blue of her eyes have dulled and her face held no expression but a half smile that looked fake. As the wind picked up Shiraishi lifted her hand to move her hair from her face as the ring she had on was glowing a soft red.

Afton’s eyes widen as he looks over at Krad giving him a dirty look, Krad smiles an evil smile at him as he says, “And you thought you could win this and get the jewel back. Sorry Dark it is over you will never save her, she is forever fallen into my trance of segregation, and there is nothing you can do to stop it.” Krad tells him wrapping his arm around Shiraishi leading her away from Afton.

“What just happen there?” Nakamura asks Afton.

“I cannot explain right now Nakamura, just please keep an eye on your sister for me, but do not let Krad know you are doing this. I have to go talk to someone NOW.” Afton says running off from him.

Nakamura runs off following his sister and Krad staying out of sight of Krad.


Afton is running to get home to his Grandfather to see if they can break the spell of the ring Shiraishi has on her. Dark is in a total shamble talking to Afton as he rambles, “When did Shira see Krad… I do not understand she was with us every minute of the day if she was not sleeping… What has Krad done to her, what does he mean she has fallen in his trap… Shira what happen, how could I have let him get by me and do this to you… Go back Afton… Go back I have to stop Krad before he hurts Shira… GO BACK!!” Dark yells at him.

“STOP IT DARK!! The only way we are going to be able to stop the spell Krad has on Shiraishi is to talk to Grandpa he can tell us how to break this spell.” Afton tells him.

“How do you know it is a spell Afton?” Dark asks him.

“The ring she has on was glowing red right after Krad kissed her hand that must have triggered the spell the ring had on it. If you remember Dark, Shiraishi’s eyes were the same color and the same look was on her face that afternoon you and I went to her house the day after Krad took the jewel from us. Do you remember that day at lunch we went to her house looking for her, because neither her nor her brother either one was at school that day.” Afton says to him.

“Yes your right she was acting the same then and her eyes were the same pale blue.” Dark says.

“Right… now if Krad cast a spell on her then it has been working on her this whole time we have to talk to Grandpa and show him what the ring looks like so he can help us break the spell.” Afton says.

“So why are you slowing down Afton run faster.” Dark says. Afton sighs as he picks back up his pace running home as fast as he could.
