Meeting at Renegade Composites July 29th 2006
The gathering at Renegade Composites was fun and very educational.  Tom Greeno who runs the shop was able to show us his various projects including a new dune buggy they are developing and plan on selling in the next few months.  It has more modern lines and accessories than you would find on a vintage buggy, and the price should be reasonable.  You may have also seen their prototype at the the Fineline Bug-In the following weekend at Bandimere Speedway.

Tom was able to also give us a demonstration of how carbon fiber is set up and he explained the process to vacuum-form parts with this process.  We now understand the reason for the high cost of generating parts from this material because of the amount of material waste that is generated.

If any of you missed this meeting, but are interested in learning more about fiberglass, carbon fiber, or any other composite material, feel free to stop in or give Tom a call (720)341-5925.  He even mentioned that he would be willing to offer classes if there is enough interest.   They have a full service shop that can do fiberglass work, paint, and upholstry, so if you need any of this work for your car, look them up.

After we spent about hour looking over the shop, some of us took a drive over to Sonic for food and more car talk.

You can also visit their shop online here:

Again, this was a lot of fun,
Thanks again Tom!!

Here's one of the new dune buggies they are working on:
Logan my son, decided to get in the picture sitting on one of their other dune buggy projects inside.
Note the orange stripe on the tail.  This is where the tail lights and signals will be and the light will shine through the florecent plexiglass similar to the way fiberoptics work.
The majority of our group  getting a tour of the shop.
This was a demo of how complicated and how many layers are involved in setting up carbon fiber.
Here is a custom VW and hot rod project they are also working on.
