Full Moon Ritual

Friday, August 22, 2002

The moon rose bulging and orange above the Tijuana estuary. We watched it together. What a magical moment. We talked a bit about how Mama Moon was full tonight and we were having a celebration in her honor.

For dinner we had quesadillas with portabella mushrooms, onions, wheat gluten, and Jack Cheese. We had white grape juice to drink. After I cooked them, I took a shower to change my headspace. While in the shower, I sang the dolphin's song. Aidan popped his head in and said, "Mommy, I love you." While I was showering, Benny lit candles, turned out the lights and straightened up a bit. I emerged from the bathroom feeling very much refreshed and the dining room/ living room was aglow. It was holy feeling; all the candles and the hemi sync music in the background.

For the elements we had:
South- St. Michael candle
West- a bowl of water
North- a bowl of sea salt
East- a feather (given to us by a crow)

These we place on the table. We prayed (grace) and ate. We talked a little bit more about Mama Moon and what we would do after we ate.

After dinner, we walked down the beach with our moon candle and incense sticks to represent the four directions. Luca rode on Benny's back. (The candle blew out and only one stick of incense would light. The winds were too wild!) We walked down the beach until it felt like we should stop. I saw a bit of seaweed that looked like the Green God pictures you always see, so that was our North point.

We called the four directions saying (semi-shouting above the winds and Mama Ocean),
"Spirit of the South, We welcome you!
Spirit of the West, We welcome you!
Spirit of the North, We welcome you!
Spirit of the East, We welcome you!"
(I spoke first, Benny and Aidan repeated after me. Only the North incense would light.)

Then we (Benny and I, Aidan was playing in the waves by this time.) held the full moon candle up above our heads in the center of the circle and we semi shouted, "Mother Earth and Father Sky, We welcome you!" I sang a bit to kind of raise some energy,
"Earth my Body, Water my Blood, Air my Breath and Fire my Spirit".
Aidan was running and running! So I harnessed some of his energy and twirled him around in that way that kids love. We hung out there a bit and talked about the full moon and what we wanted to bring into our lives. When it felt right, we began to say goodbye.
We thanked the God and Goddess for coming. We spoke to the four directions,
"Spirit of the East, We release you!
Spirit of the North, We release you!
Spirit of the West, We release you!
Spirit of the South, We release you!"

On the way home, we stopped at a neighbors to drink white wine and celebrate their recent engagement. It was a nice evening. I had a headache and Luca was feeling cranky so I took him home and nursed him to sleep. I then did a private ritual (talisman ritual) of my own. I took the full moon cookies that Aidan and I had made that day to the neighbors (Mexican wedding cakes but with cashews instead of pecans.) and came home and fell asleep in the poof chair.

Thank you for everything, Mama Moon.
