<<Back Testing For Radon
There is no way to know if there is radon in your home unless you test for it.  There are many different ways to test and many brands and such.  The picture to the left are some examples of canisters from shorts-term tests.  There are also long-term tests.  You should definitley test your home for radon.  The U.S.E.P.A. (United States Environmental Protection Agency) is very pro-testing all over the U.S.  High levels of radon in your home can be reduced.  Most radon problems can be fixed for less than $500.00.  It is definitley better to test for radon sooner as opposed to later, because depending on how much radon might be in the air, your family, and other important factors, you may develop lung diseases soon.

The new technology monitor diplayed on the right is said to be "home-owner friendly".  Easy to use and only $105.00 each.  All you have to do is plug it into an outlet in one of the
lower levels in your house and the amount of radon in the air will appear in lit numbers in the front of the monitor.  Your monthly, annual and seasonal averages of radon can be determined at the touch of a button.
The make-up air vent as showed below is another type of radon detector.  It is suggested that an installer should be hired.  Make-up air vents are being installed in many new homes and are a great edition to any home.  Make-up air vents prevent dangerous air problems caused by negative indoor air pressure.  They are
made of steel and have an outer weather hood.  They are also installed like a clothes dryer vent.  Depending

on the application needs, there may be other variations
of the vents.

Testing kits can be found at stores all over the U.S.  Some examples are: Home Depot, or a good hardware store.  They are also available on the internet.  Some sites like radonzone.com advertise selling EPA approved radon gas testing kits.
