A/N: This is a prayer to Suzaku when Hotohori is dying. And, unlike many of the fics and poems I find, he isn't thinking about Miaka! Ahem... This poem is sad, but happy in a way. Enjoy!

Why...
Why was I so stupid?
Why did I attack?
I had no power,
I knew I would die;
I had nothing but a prayer.
The prayer,
Please, don't let me die.
But now it has changed.
My new prayer,
Please, please keep my family safe.
At least do that.
Lord Suzaku,
Flaming phoenix of the South;
If you only heed one prayer on this field of death,
Please hear mine.
Keep them safe.
PleaseEKeep Houki and Boushin safe.
My strength is fading,
My vision narrowing.
Lord Suzaku,
Give me a sign,
That all is not lost;
That this kingdom and my family will pull through this.
I focus on a spot in the sky;
A sparkling, fiery light can be seen,
And the human form of Suzaku lands beside me.
I know no one cam see the god but me...
The battle around me seems to quiet,
Until there is nothing but silence.
In my mind I hear a voice;
Quiet, but strong:
Suzaku's.
"Everything will be well,
Have faith in the remaining Seishi,
And all will be well."
I close my eyes,
Basking in the peace Suzaku brought.
But I am troubled...
"What of... my family?" I ask.
Suzaku just smiles and reassures me.
I give my life up to him and join the departed Seishi in the heavens.
But with Lord Suzaku's reassurance,
I know in my heart that yes,
Everything will be well,
If the gods and fate will it to be so.
