When exactly did my life go stupid?
No, bad question. It's always been stupid. Here's an example:
Think.com
I don't have a problem with the website, no, the website itself is fine, it's the way my teachers are
using it. We have this study skills class, right? To turn in the assignments, we have to e-mail
them to our teachers. Our teachers, who obviously did not read through the services that
think.com provides well enough, only get thirty of those e-mails. The rest are deleted. Who do
they blame? THE STUDENTS!! So, they get that fixed (without a word of apology to us) and
then proceed to grade us by a rubric that we were told nothing about, that's specific as all hell.
"Use quotes from the book" and "At least three paragraphs" and shit like that.
Well, I of course, say, "screw that!" and proceed to do it my own way. I get an 8/10, which is
"You tried, you got the point, but you didn't quite do what we asked." Now, 8/10 is not bad, but
it's netting me a B, and I don't want my parents bitching at me, so I say, "I'll look over the rubric
and see what I can do." I look over it, edit my answer, throw in a few quotes, send it in . . .
And you know what I got?
a fucking 5/10. An F, which brings me down to a C.
Nevermind that I couldn't turn the assignment in on time because I had to go to a funeral, and
they KNEW it, oh no.
It just makes me mad that they tell me to do something a certain way, and I do, and then I get
penalized for it.
Not to mention freshman initiation is this week, and I'm not even at school right now, because
right now is fall break. How stupid can you get?
Don't take me wrong, I love my breaks just as much as the next person, but it takes away from
our overall summer break and Christmas break, which really rubs me the wrong way. If they're
going to make it a year-round school, then just do it, don't fiddly-fart around with it for five
years. I wouldn't have a problem with a year-round school, actually, I think it gives me more time
off than the regular curriculum. But can we even admit that that's what were doing? Nooooo, we
have to make the stupid little students think that they're getting more time off when in reality,
they're not.
God, what happened way back when that made the world go stupid? Or has it been this way from
the start? 'Cause I'm awful curious.
