Blue Kisses on White Roses

One-Shot

Mana walked slowly down the winding cemetery paths with his blue eyes staring straight ahead as he got ever closer to his destination. His black hair twisted in the cold wind that whipped the silky strands brutally across his pale features. The dark skirt that he wore tangled around his legs, making his steps faltering and unsure. He clutched tightly to the bouquet in his arms, nearly crushing the thin stems of the delicate flowers in his grip.

He knelt quietly on the coldly damp grass when he had reached the gravestone he had come to visit. Mana’s small hands smoothed his skirt over and quickly brushed his hair out of his eyes, as if he had to present himself to someone.

“I’ve come to see you, Kami,” Mana whispered, tracing the engravings on the stone. His gloved fingers meticulously outlined the shapes, as carefully as the first time he had done it. Tears began to pool in his sapphire eyes, clouding his vision until he could only see a dim outline of the world around him.

“I brought you some flowers,” Mana said just as softly as before, brushing his tears away before they could smear his perfectly applied make-up, “I thought of you the second I saw them.” He picked the wrapped bouquet off of the ground next to him, crinkling the thin pink tissue paper as he pulled it away from the bright green stems.

“I thought they were perfect for you, Kami. Pure white roses, with petals so soft,” Mana cooed, lightly kissing each of the delicate snow-colored flowers in turn, “They are so beautiful, just like you.” He laid the now loose roses on the stone, gently pushing them together. The wind quickly caught the lightly blue-marked flowers, trying to dance away with them.

The guitarist cried out quietly as he frantically gathered the flowers back together. He undid his hair bow and pulled the thin black strip of velvet from the dark locks, letting his long hair flow even more freely on the biting breeze.

He wound the ribbon around the thorny stems, tightly binding together the roses before placing them once again against the carved stone. The satin-like white petals fluttered lightly, pirouetting cheerfully with their newly blue shaded companions.

“I’m sorry, Kami, that I never told you how I feel about you,” Mana said after a moment of staring at the flowers. His fingers coiled locks of his hair, twisting nervously the delicate strands. He blinked back his tears, looking up towards the darkly clouded sky. Tiny and pure water droplets were beginning to fall as Mana gazed heavenward.

“I never told you and now I’ll never have the chance,” Mana cried, ignoring the tears that were beginning to fall down the sides of his cheeks. Rain mingled with the salty liquid, speeding its movement into the doll-like man’s hair.

The rain began to fall more heavily, soaking through all the layers of clothes that Mana wore. He sat still, crying as he watched and felt the dark storm clouds ferociously throw forth their weighty burden. Wind clawed at his hair, slapping the locks painfully against any exposed skin that they could reach.

“I’ll never find out if you felt the same for me,” Mana continued, desperately trying to hold his black hair out his blue eyes.

“But I’ll say what I feel anyway,” Mana said tenderly, running his fingers once over the stone before he stood up, “I love you, Kami. Since the first day I met you, till the end of time.” He turned and walked off, stumbling as he fought against the brutal winds.

And as Mana hurried off to go somewhere warm and dry, something happened. A single shining ray of light broke through the darkness, pushing aside all that stood in its way. It fell on the bouquet of blue kisses on white roses.
