How We Spend Thanksgiving
What would Thanksgiving be without a family turkey dinner! First we start with a purr holding our paws together. We then toast our family and health. Then the festivities begin. After days of cooking we indulge in all our favorites. With our family a game of football on the tv or early morn is a must and of course the youngsters watch the Thanksgiving parade hoping to catch a glimpse of Santa Paws.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and mewrs, Mysty, Storme and Family
Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday and one of our favorites. It is a time to reflect and be thankful for all that we have--our friends, our family, our health, a warm home. It is also a beautiful time of year with all the brilliant colors of oranges, reds and browns. There is a crisp and cleanness about the air so refreshing and cool. For Thanksgiving we always decorate the house up with turkey and pilgrim stuff and put special linens on the table. Mommy goes out and buys lots of groceries (that is if it is her year to have Thanksgiving--every other year she goes to the human daughters) and gets them all ready for the big feast. Yummm....that turkey always smells so good cooking and we always get some of our own too. Usually Mommy will put it in the bedroom for us to be away from the company to eat. She is careful not to give us any bones! The pumpkin pie cooking is another smell that just fills the house up and sometimes we like a bite of pumpkin pie too. So then everyone sits down to eat and usually the guys have something stupid like football on TV! So when dinner is done the ladies go for a walk a lot of times. We just watch out the window. And one other thing is that weekend is usually when the circus is in town so sometimes they go to the circus right on Thanksgiving night or another day on that weekend. Now if it is Mommy's year to go away for Thanksgiving we miss out on all the smells and fresh air from open doors but at least she leaves us turkey for our "special dinner" that our pet sitter gives us! Well, that is what we do for Thanksgiving. Happy Turkey Day

My
family used to always cook a dinner for the holiday and stay home, but now that
the family is smaller they usually go out to eat in a restaurant because there
would be sooooo many left-overs. Whatever they do this year, I just hope my
meowmie will at least bake a pumpkin pie!

Thanksgiving is always a big deal in our family. Some times Meowmie goes over to Uncle Phil's house, sometimes they come over here. But where ever they have it, Thanksgiving is a wonderful and happy occasion. There is lots of talking, laughing, picture taking, cooking, fussing, and eating. Lots and lots of eating. Even us cats get in on the feast. We all get our own little plate of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, gravy and what ever else they are having. All except the pie, I never get any pie. Thanksgiving isn't as grand and big as it used to be, not since Uncle Phil had his cancer and his stroke. He has to move around with a walker now, and a lot of confusion makes him a little edgy. But we are very thankful that we got one more year with our crazy, loving Uncle Phil.Mom says this is because of the Purrs that everyone has sent him, all your purrs and good wishes have brought him back to us three times now, and we got one more year to give thanks.

Our
family traditions are really quite simple, mom spends all day cooking and then
we eat for the rest of the day. Now that is what I call a day of giving thanks.
I love turkey, she always gets one way to big, then we can eat on it for a week,
she fills its butt (yuck) with squished up bread she calls dressing, which
confuses me totally, because when you are dressing, you put clothes on the
OUTSIDE of your body, but the turkey gets it on the inside, strange bird. Then
she makes mashed potatoes and gravy, and all sorts of other goodies, and I get
my little dish of cottage cheese too. Then everyone eats till they are full to
busting, then falls alseep in all the chairs and sofas. Now I think this is
extremely rude, especially if they have MY spot. After mom gets all the dishes
washed and the kitchen cleaned, it is a signal for everyone to start eating all
over again. Come to think of it, Mom works all day long while everyone sort of
goofs off, I wonder why she likes that holiday so much.

OUR THANKSGIVING By Luckie,
Gizmo, Taurus Thanksgiving is such a yummy holiday. Our house smells so good.
Meowmie is in the kitchen a lot making all kinds of delicious foods. Our
favorite part of Thanksgiving is of course, the Turkey! It smells the best. Our
family spends Thanksgiving at our house with friends usually. Meowmie always
invites other humans over for dinner. Meowmie says her favorite part of
Thanksgiving is watching the football games. Everyone gathers at our house just
before the first game starts and they stay till the last game.....cheering and
eating all the way through! Meowmie watches the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
early in the morning as she begins cooking too. Watching the parade has become a
tradition in our house.

Our Thanksgiving by Lady Blue
Meowmie doesn't have any family here in Texas and most of her friends have their own families. They usually go out of town, so Meowmie spends her Thanksgiving with us. She has the whole week off from school. We are very thankful that we have each other. Meowmie says that she would not know what to do if she had to come home to an empty house. She cooks a turkey with all the trimmings. While it is cooking she watches the Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV and any good movies, too. Then when it is time to eat, she fixes our plates first. We get a lot of the white meat. (She does not like this part of the turkey) She fixes her plate and sits down in front of the TV to eat. Of course after such a heavy meal we all take a long rest, including Meowmie. We don't do anything for the shelters because they are not "no kill" shelters. Meowmie refuses to support them for that reason. purrs, Lady Blue who can hardly wait for Thanksgiving.
A long time ago meowmie and
grandmeowmie used to gather with family and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving.
But since family and friends have either gone to the rainbow bridge or moved
away, we now all spend Thanksgiving at home. Just with all of us cats and the
dogs, it's a big family gathering anyway! In the morning meowmie watches the
Thanksgiving Day Macy parade. In the afternoon, between tv and cooking the
turkey dinner is finally served at long last. Meowmie and grandmeowmie have
turkey with stuffing, gravy, potatoes, squash, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce,
dinner rolls, and some kind of yummy desert. We get our share of the food given
to us. The turkey heart and liver are always cut up and cooked just for us and
divided equally among us. We also get to taste small pieces of turkey meat and
gravy. At the end of the day we say purrs of thanks for all our blessings and
send purrs to those less fortunate than we are. We always have a wonderful
Thanksgiving, even if it's just us and two humans.

On
Thanksgiving morning meowmie gets up furry early to get the turkey dressed! (he
needs lots of help!) She makes stuffin' and butters him up. (turkey's are more
cooperative if ya butter 'em up first!) Once he's in the ofen, then she starts
the fixin' of the offur stuff like the sweet potatoes and salad or green beans,
the mashed potatoes and all that. The kids don't help a bit! They watch the
parade of television and yell to meowmie when her favorite characters are
coming! Meowmie likes Snoopy and the Pink Panther the best. Krysti likes the
majorettes and dancers. The boys think Underdog is pretty cool -- but I think
Underdog got banned after he broke a street light or something a year or two
ago. Paw wanders around sniffin' and makin' grunting noises and asking if it's
almost soup yet! He's okay after his mom and brofur get here. They keep him
occupied until the dinner is ready! Then the family all sits down to eat. And
they eat until they get sick tummies. Meowmie always gives Jewl a BIG bowl of
Thanksgiving dinner, and sometimes two. Jewl LOVES thanksgiving! I don't eat
turkey or ANY of that other yucky stuff so I don't get any. But I bet Freedom
will get some this year - cuz she eats effurything! She efen ate a carrot outta
meowmies salad last night! While the family eats they DO talk about the things
in their lives that they are most thankful for -- and WE pets are always
included in that! Efferybody loves us. After the dinner is ofer, the "men" go
watch football, the "boyz" go skateboard, and the "women & girls" sit around
the table and keep talkin' till they feel like cleaning up! Then meowmie usually
takes a nap, and I might curl up with her... What I like most about thanksgiving
is that the house is warm - cuz the fire is usually going - and I like the fire!
Annnnnnd I like the smells in the house - efen though I don't eat 'em - I still
like to sniff 'em!
