N360 Restoration in New Zealand - Diary - Re-assembly Page 2

Re-assembly Page 2 - Progressing.

After much huffing and puffing (and some help from my wife) the NOS windshield is in place! Still trying to track down a NOS piece of 'chrome' trim for the bottom left side. NOS wipers shown, just restoring the linkage.

The engine and restored subframe and front suspension are now installed. The fan assembly needs to be restored. The airbox was finished long ago and is ready to be fitted. The electrics and ignition system are next.

Front suspension installed. Brakes fitted and NOS brake lines/ connectors fitted wherever possible. Hoses may well be replaced with new once the car is running. Front brake cylinders are in good condition but I may have a second pair reconditioned as spares.

Rear of car now showing all sections of NOS 'chrome' rubber insert fitted. You will notice that the bumper is an N600 item. All my N360 bumpers are in poor condition and NOS items are too expensive to ship from overseas. The bumper shown will polish up and look spectacular!

This shows the dashboard re-installed. NOS gauges and switches fitted. The odometer reads 2km travelled! The NOS steering wheel is trial fitted. The turn signal mech is to be cleaned up and various minor components fitted to complete the dash.

I'm trying to trace a set of whitewall flaps for the wheels. The original Japan spec hondas had the narrow band whitewalls. The wheels have yet to be stripped and painted. New tyres will be fitted. Not sure if they'll be radial or crossply, depends what looks better.

3rd July 2004. Setting foot (wheel) out of the garage. Lights on but no grill. You can see how small it is with me sitting inside! (6ft tall).

Down the driveway, using the handbrake as I have yet to fix a leaky joint in the hydraulic system.

Out on to the road. A nice quiet back street. Perfect for testing!

4th July 2004. After some adjustment to the carb and tightening of the suspension, things are going well. Reverse gear now fully engages. The pin for the selector rod was fouling on the engine block. A light tap pushed it fully in and flush. Oil leak from clutch still to be looked at.

Engine running using a spare carb. A NOS item will be fitted eventually. Heater ducts and fan shrouds still to be fitted, along with the washer bottle and spare wheel. Engine runs great!

Rear of car shows n600 bumper which is due to be replaced with a restored n360 item soon. Wheels and tyres are the only remaining work on the exterior. Lovely sunny day for photos!
