THE SPRAY, THE CHEMICALS
Here you go, the basic chemicals of west nile spray....in it's purest form and all. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
MALATHION- A word completly central to this project, malthion is the pesticide used for West Nile spraying, and was created in 1950, possibly by Nazi intelligence, as malathion is a nerve agent.
HOW DOES IT WORK? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Malathion "injures the nervous system by inhibiting cholinesterase." In lament's terms, this means that malathion screws up the reactions in bodies through interfering with one of the nervous system's enzymes. This enzyme is needed to keep the natural flow of acetylcholine(AChE) going, because it "breaks it down." Acetylcholine is a stimulator for the signals the body sends to its brain. When cholinesterate is lessened or interefered with, the stimulator builds up, and causes a sort of traffic "jam in the nervous system." (ace.htm) The system can and will become overstimulated, causing the brain to stop functioning. In mosquitoes, this shuts off the system, and therefore the bug dies. |

Malathion is an organophosphate, which means it is an organic compound which contains phosphorous.
In fact, the exact empirical formula is C10 H19 O6 PS4, which basically means that malathion has a ration of ten Carbons with nineteen Hydrogens, six Oxygens, and four Phosphates. Its molecular weight is 330.4g. Malathion is a "colorless to amber substace, with a mecaptan odor." , and has a boiling point of about 156 degrees celcius. It is also soluble in most alcohols. Yuck, and it's probably spreading a virus.... |

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Malathion can also be called, and is called, "carbophos, maldison and mercaptothion"(ace.htm)
There it is, the molecular structure of malathion! (Chemstructures) |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
MALATHION does not really kill the virus,just the moquitoes.Since humans usually don't get bitten by birds, which are common carriers and victims of the virus, the birds don't need to be killed, just the insects which feed off of their infected bodies- mosquitoes.
more West Nile getter ridder of methods...larvicides
Basically, the reaction between malathion and cholinesterase happens when one of the S's (sulfur), changes to an O, (oxygen) and causes the cholinesterase to stop working against the acetylcholine, or rather, stop being an antiacytelcholine. hmmm..............................................
Back to where you came from!
