Militant farmers condemn violent dispersal, tag Angelo Reyes and GMA as culprits. The Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) condemned the violent dispersal of a peaceful assembly in Plaza Miranda yesterday calling for the freedom of Angelo dela Cruz and for the immediate pull out of the RP contingent in Iraq. According to Danilo “Ka Daning” Ramos, secretary general of the group, “this type of police brutality is reminiscent of Martial law. Is this the opening salvo of Sec. Angelo Reyes to announce that he is now in the DILG and he would quash any legitimate protest? No wonder GMA appointed him in the department,” “Is this the prelude to the coming State of the Nation Address of Gloria? Why was it that the assembly was dispersed, when its calls are the popular cry of the people? Is the administration hiding something and they are afraid that the assembly would become larger if what their hiding was revealed? To cut to the chase, is Angelo dela Cruz dead already and the administration is hiding this information, afraid that it would cause its downfall?” asked Ramos The issue of the violent dispersal, seen in the context of a hostage crisis in Iraq with a belated government action to withdraw its troops, the recent Sandiganbayan ruling favoring the house arrest of former president Estrada, the so-called moratorium on the Cha-cha and the appointment of Angelo Reyes to the DILG points only to one direction, the regime is hanging by its nails to keep in power. It is afraid that if any or all of these issues breaks out and accumulates a critical mass it would lead to its ouster. “This is the current situation and the regime is acting like a cornered beast lashing out, but it is mistaken if it thinks that we would do nothing about it. We would file charges against Angelo Reyes, GMA and the WPD to the Joint Monitoring Committee by violating the Comprehensive Agreement on the Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law, as well as file criminal and administrative charges against them,” added Ramos “This type of behavior of the regime is
highly reprehensible and it is very unfortunate that Angelo dela Cruz’s
life is in the hands of these butchers,” ended Ramos.# # #
