Don’t let another Hacienda Luisita-like massacre happen again!”-KMP

The left-leaning Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) said that the Hacienda Luisita massacre should be the last and the government should junk the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) to prevent another one from happening.

According to Carl Anthony Ala, public information officer of KMP, “another massacre is again in the offing if the government does not repeal the (CARP), take the case of Hacienda Looc for example, this is a 8,650 hectare prime agricultural land in Nasugbu, Batangas and it has more than 10,000 farmers in the area. Now, the big land-grabber comes in named Manila South-Coast Development Corporation, (MSDC) and with the help of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), was able to bulldoze more than 4,000 trees and are forcing the farmers out of their lands,”

“The land in Hacienda Looc is under the CARP and yet why is this happening? This really shows the rottenness of the land reform program of the regime. The people, because they have no one to turn to proceeded in barricading the entrance to the hacienda in Brgy. Calayo and there is increasing harassment of the inhabitants by the military and the air force specifically the 740th PAF,” added Ala.
Meanwhile Carina Espino, secretary general of Alyansa ng Manggagawang-Bukid sa Asyenda Luisita (AMBALA) expressed the support of the farm-workers, farmers and workers in Hacienda Luisita to the ones in Hacienda Looc, “we are one with you and we should rely on our own strength to advance our struggle for land, because we no longer have anything to lose but everything to gain by waging militant struggle for our just demands,”

“It is only through our united action that we can achieve our goals. Hacienda Luisita may now have more martyrs and as we know Hacienda Looc also has 4, but their lives and sacrifice would have come to naught if we stop our struggle now,” ended the peasant leader. # # #
