The militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) lambasted former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos for asserting that the victims of human rights violations during his husband’s reign of terror should not receive any compensation from the Marcos’ ill-gotten wealth. According to Danilo “Ka Daning” Ramos, secretary general of the group, “Imelda seems to be delusional for her rapture on the US court decision that basically recognized the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court of the Philippines. This in essence forfeited to the government $683 million in assets of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos,” “The former iron butterfly should go back to reality and face the music. Their conjugal dictatorship caused a lot of hardships and lives for majority of the Filipino people, they should pay for what they did. This is just the start, the guilty Marcoses should be imprisoned,” added the peasant leader “Regarding the compensation of the victims and for the amendment of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP). Our position is for the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Law (CARL) to be scrapped entirely because it would just resiphone the money back to the hands of landlords, most of which are Marcos cronies. Essentially the CARP is bogus and anti-peasant. The money sould be given to the victims until genuine land reform is implemented,” As for his part Carl Anthony Ala,public information officer of KMP, “it is very sadistic for Imelda to say that during her husband’s dictatorship, no one was tortured, nor any human rights violation was committed. What is more appalling though is that it seems no one castigates her when she says this, or is this just courtesy for the living half of the conjugal dictatoship?” “Imelda does not know the suffering that
her family caused the peasant masses, she should stop reminiscing of
Martial Law as if it were a utopia or the golden age of the Philippines.
The hard and cold fact is this it is the worst time for majority of Filipinos
because it killed their freedoms and we will not let it happen again,”
