The Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) condemn in the strongest possible terms the so-called Valentine'g Day bombings which rocked Makati City, Gen. Santos City and Davao City. The bombings claimed 6 lives and scores of others wounded. According to Danilo "Ka Daning" Ramos, secretary general of the group,"the obvious purpose of the perpretators was to instill fear and terror among the populace, but these incidents seem more than they let on,'' "The basic questions to be answered here are: 1.who are most capable of pulling these atrocities and 2.who would benefit most from it? On both questions the AFP and the government themselves are the top answers, with the Abu Sayyaf coming in a far third," added the peasant leader "Due to their embarassment in Sulu the AFP, may have planned to use it as a diversionary tactic, so that there would be another headline, instead of their disastrous undertakings. lt may also serve as a justification to further declare an all -out war in Sulu and commit more atrocities. As for the admistration it can also be used on both counts as well. First, it serves as a diversion from the growing mass protests against the VAT, particularly the February 16 mass action. Second,it also serves as a justification for the VAT by saying that the bombings will severely affect our economy and we would need the VAT to get by. As can be seen it is a simple case of hitting two birds with one stone both for the AFP and the Macapagal-Arroyo administration. This is a win-win situation for both camps," explained Ramos. "As for the Abu Sayyaf angle, anyone can call radio stations and claim that they are Abu Sayyaf, besides it is the AFP itself that formed it," he expounded. As for his part Carl Anthony Ala, public information officer of KMP "these bombings are really dubious and once again it would be blamed on our Moro brothers. Their human rights are to be violated again because definitely raids are to be conducted on the communities of the military's current favorite fall guys," "Though come to think of it not one of the bombings since 2001 were solved by the AFP and they were always pointing to the ASG as the ones who did. Maybe the ones who should investigate this is the Magdalo group, so that it would have some credibility,"ended Ala.### KMP - 15 February 2005 |
