The militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) airs its respect for the passing of the world’s most influential Catholic leader. According to Danilo “Ka Daning” Ramos, secretary general of the group, “the Pope’s demise should inspire people the world over to struggle against repressive regimes, like what he did in Poland. Our resistance against unjust wars should also be strengthened by his example, but most of all our drive to serve the people should be magnified a hundred fold,” “These should be the principles that the next pope should have, to better guide the Catholic flock,” added the peasant leader. As for his part Carl Anthony Ala, public information officer of KMP, “though we believe that the Philippines should show its respect for the pope, it should not be at the expense of the already suffering Filipino people. The president’s trip to the Vatican should be highly limited, to herself and her escorts alone, anyone whether it be a first family member, government official or whoever should pay for his or her trip as well as the board and lodging in the Vatican out from their own pockets,” “Freeloaders and kibitzers should not be
shouldered by the Filipino people,” ended Ala. # # #
